Gargano is a historical and geographical sub-region in the province of Foggia, Apulia, southeast Italy, consisting of a wide isolated mountain massif made of highland and several peaks and forming the backbone of the Gargano Promontory projecting into the Adriatic Sea, the "spur" on the Italian "boot".
The Gargano peninsula is partly covered by the remains of an ancient forest, Foresta Umbra, the only remaining part in Italy[citation needed] of the ancient oak and beech forest that once covered much of Central Europe as well as the Apennine deciduous montane forests ecoregion. The Latin poet Horace spoke of the oaks of Garganus in Ode II, ix.

I need to master a second language besides English, because there are not enough words to describe the spectacle and wonder of this experience! It's not just a boat ride. It's not just a tour. Riding a crowded bus in the Hollywood hills is a tour. This is an immersive dive into the very landscape, the very fabric of the Italian coast. If we use a little imagination, it is a story of discovery, of perfect, untouched hidden shores, of waves carving their initials incessantly on the rockface with angry slaps. it is nothing short of magical. Once the caves start coming, I found my jaw dropping every 10 minutes with one incredible revelation after another. The layered rock itself is a marvel to stare at as we slide through the gentle waves. How on Earth did the rock stack so evenly like that? Nature really does know what it's doing. Riccardo, here you take us on a magical journey, as if back in time when only the rock existed. Stunning. Stirring. Beautiful. Awe-inspiring. This is perhaps the best tour you've shot. Certainly it is the most unique, unforgettable trip to an otherworldly place, one that I thought could only be imagined in the pages of an odyssey of a Greek sailing ship. In fact, I found the child in me always waiting for the possibility of a giant Cyclops or a monstrous Typhon to burst from behind a stone pillar and end the tour in a swift and terrible way! Fortunately, you and the other passengers on your voyage made it back so that you could pick up fresh cheese, fish and a good red wine for dinner.

Dear Ken, what a comment... I'm astonished and so happy to read such words flowing by and , in a way, describing quite incredibly what I also experienced there in this magnificent part of Italy. I believe that often it's not so easy to "capture" a place only by a film, but I can see that, in a way, this turned out better than I expected; the noise of the waves, the sun hitting these yellow rocks, the history behind all these towns, hills, rocks, caves... that "horse drinking" pillar rock , one would have never noticed... the atmosphere inside the caves... it was like a small trip to a real paradise, which, for sure, I'll never forget. I'm so happy they can be liked: for some reasons, or another, videos like these (and like the Appia narrated tour for instance!) get so MUCH lower views than other videos, and it's a little discomforting, but that's the algorythm :/... At least I'm glad to know that, for the few that see them, they can be liked and appreciated!!
I'll surely try to make more of these "unusual" tours, or "discovery" as you said! I loved being there, loved everything of that morning.
After the first "track" , they then stopped us to swim in a beach that , saying "paradisiac" was to say nothing.... THank you again and wish you a nice and pleasant weekend my friend!

This was an interesting tour and different from the others. But it was indeed an enjoyable one. I like that you show many different parts of Italy, and not only the more popular, tourist areas. The caves are indeed beautiful and out of this world. What an amazing experience this must have been for the passengers visiting such wondrous sites. The Captain was an engaging narrator of the history and stories of each cave, bay, towns, buildings, the cliffs, rocks, trees, etc. There was also an amusing moment when he was recounting the legend of Cristalda and Pizzomuno and how every 100 years the stone would turn into the fisherman again. When he said: " Don't look at me, it happened last year!"😁 I could just imagine everyone's reaction. I was laughing so much. Thanks again for another wonderful tour. It seemed like such a great adventure for all involved.

By the way, Riccardo, can you share the name of the tour company that you took? Do they have a website or an email perhaps? I would like to contact them and find out about making reservations in advance. And as is very obvious, you need to sit on the right side of the boat to see everything better! Also, how much does the tour cost? I'm guessing it was about 2 and a half hours total round trip? Thanks again for the incredible work.

Hi Ken! Good question, but hard to tell because it went like this... the evening earlier in Peschici, I talked a bit with a small restaurant owner and he suggested me to take this boat trip, as they depart from PEschici Harbour at exactly 8:30 in the morning. One must reserve a ticket, and he called the number for me at the "agency" in the port of Peschici.
When in the morning I went there, in the tiny port of Peschici, there is a small "wooden hut", it's 1 of the 2 only present near the boats. One is for trips to the "tremiti islands" and the other one (mine) was for the trip around the coastline.
All the trips are sponsored, as far as I could see, from the town of Peschici, and they have perhaps 2-3 boats for each trips. Once there, I told me name for reservation, and they told me to go to that boat, together with the others. For sure there are other minor companies (private ones) operating there, so...
BUT... I also filmed the name of the boat in another small video in a beach (I will upload soon).
I'm now away from home, but when I'llm be back I'll tell you the boat's name so you can be sure of that one and the funny crew as well.
The tour is about 4 hours in total because.... the then stop in a MAGNIFICENT beach for about 1 hour and you can swim there, there's also a small bar ... it's named "Vignanotica Beach"... I'll update you!

Ken, found it! The boat is called "Peschici Jet", serial number 6MF035 :) Saw the other video where I filmed it.

Ciao! I notice that you seem to be using the Osmo pocket 2 more than gopro. Honestly, that is the way I am thinking. I think I'll bring 2 osmo pocket 2's to Italy in case one fails, or on shoots when I need two cameras going. I gave up on my insta360 a long ago due to poor video quality, and gopro can be twitchy with jerky panning movements. I just don't trust it anymore. I'm going to buy the manual wheel that attaches to the osmo pocket 2 and can smoothly tilt up and down. I like the tactile feeling of a thumbwheel rather than having to use my fat fingers on the touchscreen. I think I'll be set.

Ciao Ken! Indeed, using the GoPro only for biking tours by now, as the pocket 2 is WAY Better , also In the colours settings and results. In the boat tour it was amazing because at every roll of the boat, it just followed the horizon neatly. Here I used also the DJI osmo stick, as you can use it for camera panning and tilting at the hand- grip base. Pretty handy in such conditions. Anyway, I truly find the pocket 2 astonishing...it's a shame no other companies are creating something similar or better though

@@StillWanderer thanks for the confirmation on my choice of camera. I just need to figure out a way to double record that boat tour. I'll have usb power to both cameras. I'll use a z-axis stabilizer for my main one, but I"m not sure how and where to mount the second one. I think there is a baseball cap attachment accessory I can use- basically a gopro adaptor.

@@kensellar Oh, a double camera setting I never tried, but maybe, just buy a very small tripod and set it up in the bench? It could be actully a good solution for 1 camera, as to never touch it and leave it at that, at the "right" side of the boat, while you can move the other one?

@@StillWanderer good idea. I am just so worried that one camera will suddenly decide to stop working on the most incredible tour of my life. I just need a third arm and I'm set! But I will definitely have a second camera. I made my tour booking this morning! So pleased I was able to book that far ahead. You mentioned there were two booths on the beach in Peschici, one for the islands tour and one for the cave and coast, so I need to make sure I go to the right one to make sure I get on the right boat. I believe from their website- looks like your boat- they actually start a little further up the coast and I think Peschici is the first stop to pick up additional passengers. I hope I get my window seat on the right side of the boat! Ciao and happy travels!

Great Ken! Yup, just ask there about the one where it's only for the grotto tour. You can't miss it anyway. Just go much earlier than 8:30, like 7;45 to be sure, so you are the first to embark and take the best seat on the right. Also take a swimming suit of course as they'll stop at Vignanotica beach...I'll show it here...it's like a paradise... I'm sure you'll love this !
