Why Isn't The Best Burger Stand a Nationwide Chain?

  • Weird History is ordering a Double Double telling you the History of In-n-Out Burger. The famous burger chain was founded by Harry and Esther Snyder. Harry first visited a local market to buy fresh ingredients for his 10-square-foot-wide hamburger stand. From there, In-n-Out has exploded in the West and Southwest with a rabid, almost cult-like following. You're gonna want this video Animal-Style, so sit back, relax, and enjoy.

    Growing up in Southern Calif 1963-1998 I'm very familiar with In&Out plus a huge fan!! When I moved to the Denver area in 96 I called In&Outs Corp Office and asked about selling me a franchise in the Denver area knowing it would be hugely popular. I was told at that time they weren't in COLO because they couldn't guarantee their specific products could be shipped there and keep fresh enough. FFWD 20 Years and they opened one up near me in the Denver area and the place was packed solid, open to close!! This location had so much traffic that it generated the City had to use The Police Dept to control traffic in about a mile in every direction!!! This went on for 7-8 weeks, but did start to slow down so they were only packed from 10am-1pm and 4pm-7pm. The place is a gold mine for whomever received the franchise license, unfortunately it wasn't me!! Jeez, I even bought a 50th Anniversary Shirt while visiting my folks in Calif back in the day, I'm that big of a fan. Oh well... ;)

      @lancasterritzyescargotdine2602 Месяц назад

      @@chefscorner7063 In 'N' Out won't franchise for two reasons:
      1. Absent a 2nd distribution center, they could only guarantee consistent quality to their stores from a single distribution point. Trucks can only drive so far before food is no longer fresh. That was overcome when they successfully opened a 2nd distribution center in Dallas, Texas.
      2. Every great product that was ever franchised suffered loss of quality, including KFC, Haggen-Dazs, Taco Bell, Dominoes Pizza, Famous Amos, Pizza Hut, Krispy-Kreme and countless others.
      This is why in 'N' Out's growth has been slow but steady. They will eventually overtake McSpensives, Booger Sting, Barf In The Box, Karl's Junker, Kuntfucky Fried Crap, Taco Hell and Wimpy's, ALL of which have massive advertising budgets. In 'N' Out is the only junk food chain with no need for an advertising budget. Their business model is one that should be followed by everyone going into business.
      The only other successful chain I've seen that won't franchise is WinCo Foods, an employee-owned grocery chain headquartered in Boise, Idaho. Like In 'N' Out, their growth is slow but steady.

    I adore In-n-Out living in Las Vegas, but it is usually so busy I drive on by. It doesn't matter what day or time, there always seems to be a line. Unlike McDonald's, In-n-Out puts a good char on the meat patties that gives the burger that home grilled taste that is wonderful.

    • @sjnix7044
      @sjnix7044 11 месяцев назад

      Dunno about the Vegas location but every CA location I've been to, the line always moves fast. A good rule of thumb is a minute or less per car, so if there are 20 cars in line, you're looking at about 15 minutes max. Well worth it.

    I'm sorry. I've tried many different burgers and many different restaurants, both local and National, and in-and-out still reigns supreme. In-N-Out is just so fresh and delicious, never heavy or greasy, and such delicious sauce and toppings. The fries have had a lot of criticism but I think they're just right, like the burgers never too greasy, just crispy, a little salty and delicious!

    There's one simple reason why some chains are not nationwide -- exclusivity. I mean Portillos Hotdogs are only primarily found in the midwestern US, while IN and Out Burger is primariy in CA and parts of Nevada (mainly Las Vegas area). Same for others like Culvers (also primarily found in IL, WI, MN and IA and perhaps parts of IN near IL). Plus being a bit exclusive I think drives more traffic to your restaurants because people will go especailly if they're traveling because they can't go to the chain when at home because it's not available. And since places like Las Vegas are a tourist hotspot, it works out. I mean every time I visit Las Vegas, I try to go to In and Out Burger at least once while I'm there.
    I mean it would be nice if IN and Out Burger would make their way to at laest larger cities, like Chicago, NYC, and other major US cities across the US, and they could still stay exclusive to those areas and have the same effect, it's just it would more accessible to people when traveling, because not everyone goes to places like Las Vegas.

    Luv the "In-n-Out" quality, style and flavor, it's unique to them only. I wish there were one nearby, I'd make sure to visit once a month or more.
    On the question of who I'd like to see covered by this channel, I can think of Three Burger Shops unique to where they first opened up and have franchised from.
    I live in the Pacific NorthWest, so you may have covered one or more of these. Two are in Seattle, Kidd Valley and Dicks Drive Up. Kidd Valley is upscale quality Fast Food w/ seating/drive thru and some unique menu items. Their Deep Fried Mushrooms are Delish. They do Fish & Dogs too.
    Dicks Drive Up is very good quality w/ a limited menu that require you to get out of ur car and order from one of many windows. They are relatively inexpensive and Very Fast at gettin your order up. You'd better know what you want when you get to the window. I think these two are Seattle area only but I'm not sure if either has franchised further out. The Third is Burgerville, first started in Vancouver WA. They are relatively High Quality, always have Unique Seasonal fav's and for the quality, are a pretty good bargain. Their Seasonal Walla Walla Onion Rings are as good as it gets for onion rings. Seasonal Fruit Shakes and Tillamook Cheeseburgers are fav's also. The Alaskan Halibut Fish-n-Chips are spendy buy worth it.
