For some perspective on this: Leading up to that series, Robinson in his first 9 playoff games in 95 averaged 26.3 points and 12.7 rebounds It's not like Robinson had played badly or was slumping going into this series. Hakeem simply played THAT well
Also it seems like Hakeem game is tailored to take advantage of Dave I wasn't around til 10 years after this so I never watched full games but whenever I watch videos about this length, Robinson bites on an awful lot of fakes. Regardless of who it is And obviously Hakeem is the best there has ever been for a big man with footwork and fakes
Drexler's family did even own a BBQ restaurant in Texas but perhaps they did a Louisiana barbecue recipe, which is where he and his family had come from.
3:44 I just realized something. What was Kenny talking about when he said, “He (David Robinson) mentioned everyone but Dream.” Robinson was only talking his team, family, friends, etc. Hakeem was not supposed to be apart of his speech.
Lol destroyed? Olajuwon took advantage of the fact that he was being guarded one on one that’s all really. Robinson on the other hand needed to be doubled and tripled frequently. Rockets were a great defensive team Spurs not so much especially if Rodman was being benched.
@@mythtek1 The Rockets had a lot of shooters that's why the Spurs didn't double much, they were double teaming sometimes though considering the single coverage defense obviously wasn't working throughout the series. 4 of the top 10 players that postseason in defensive ws were from the Spurs they were a great defensive team. The Magic tried to do the same thing in the finals, didn't work for them either.
@@mythtek1 It doesn't work that way, AJ and Sean Elliott were in the top 10 because of their individual defense, as a matter of fact Drexler in the first 5 games wasn't much of a factor offensively in the 4th because of how well Elliott was guarding him. AJ being a good defender was his ability to get steals being a smaller player doesn't mean they aren't a good defender, Doc Rivers was a pretty good defensive player himself. G5 Cassell went off for 30 which caught the Spurs off guard, that's one of the things that made the Rockets such a dangerous team was Cassell catching fire out of nowhere every once in a while. He did the same thing to the Magic in the finals w/a 31 point game.
Joel's pretty good, but Nothing like Hakeem. This was real basketball and Hakeem is one of the greatest centers ever. Joel's is nothing like him. Good scorer, rebounder, but nothing like Hakeem.
This is the one series as a huge Robinson fan I wish the outcome of the series was different or at least if he won the individual match up. Although some like to rewrite history Robinson and Olajuwon were neck and neck back in those days and it’s crazy how this series changed that and now ppl think that Hakeem regularly did this to Robinson when really they both had similar stats head to head.
@@billagap3213 I agree with you no doubt Dreams that dude I just feel ppl make it seem like Robinson was a scrub and was a bum when really he’s had great games against Hakeem unfortunately for him Dream had the better series
In the biggest games is what mattered. They canceled each other out in most regular season games. Also the NBA embraced Robinson as the all American boy. They completely shoved Dream aside when Robinson got to the league
They should’ve kept John Lucas as the head coach in the 1994-95 season Bob Hill was mediocre the best coaches in Spurs history are Greg Poppvich John Lucas and Larry Brown
Hill did make adjustments after G2 Rudy just happened to adjust himself the last 2 games. He was the best "x and o" coach in the WC during that era he should get more credit than Hill simply getting the blame.
Hakeem won this one on one matchup in scoring and defense. He also generated at least 49 points by scoring 41, and passing 4 times. He almost generated half of the Rockets points.

Even when including this series he still ended up being the postseaon leader in defensive ws which says a lot about how good the Rockets were.
GOAT individual playoff series. And GOAT individual playoff run to a title.
What a masterful performance by Hakeem way to go big fella 🎉
there's no way Joel Embiid could guard Hakeem
HAKEEM WOULD DESTROY HIM IN THE POST
Hakeem would destroy him
No one could guard Hakeem
Nobody could, people aren't aware of how he killed Kareem in the 80's and went to the finals in the 80's
David was the only big athlete enough and strong enough and he killed him
Don't get the misconception that Hakeem was playing basketball. He wasn't playing basketball, he was making art.
Drexler's family did even own a BBQ restaurant in Texas but perhaps they did a Louisiana barbecue recipe, which is where he and his family had come from.
Hakeem: "I'm going over to David Robinson's house to get my MVP trophy."
after those two games in SA the Admiral wouldve brought it with him to Houston personally he was so humble, he admitted he got creamed
He really said that, huh?
I thought Kenny "The Jet" Smith retelling that at "Open Court" was an exaggeration.
Hakeem is the best center
13:31 Here is Hakeem’s best play of his career.
3:44 I just realized something. What was Kenny talking about when he said, “He (David Robinson) mentioned everyone but Dream.” Robinson was only talking his team, family, friends, etc. Hakeem was not supposed to be apart of his speech.
I'm going to guess it was indirectly mentioned with Commissioner Stern who didn't mention Hakeem.
Hakeem was one of one
11:14 Here is one of the most replayed moves.
0:25 Kenny Smith allows Avery Johnson to get inside the lane. No surprise there.
that dude was like 5'08" nobody could stay in front of the little general
Ya gotta have Game 5 where Hakeem torched the Admiral, I’m a fan of both but the Dream had some moves
Hopefully soon!
Stern set Robinson up that game. 😆
Wins MVP and then gets destroyed by Hakeem
Also give credit to Robert Horry making 5 three pointers
Also Dennis Rodman for not defending Big Shot Bob

@@ChrisM07 That’s because Robinson was that good on Defense he made everyone look better statistically. AJ and Del Negro were horrible Defenders

Handing out that trophy.... This is when the Rockets knew you F up.
but that was policy, hakeem got his while hosting the Utah Jazz the year prior
They should still be playing at the alamodome
No they play in the A&T Center
the dream ruined the whole ceremony lmfaoo

Yeah, and it's too bad that this was the only time they met in the playoffs.
Loved both. But Hakeem was better. Not only in this series but in general. Not by a lot. But he was better
