Then there was Chronicles of Elyria which they asked for $900K and they eventually raised 9 Million over a 4 year period. In the end all the backers got was a group of illustrations of what creatures and people will look like in the game. The company did make a short tech demo for PaxWest, but in the end the company closed its doors and the CEO blamed the backers for not raising enough money. He was still selling backing packages up until 3 days before he shut the doors.
@@Autistic_Pixel You have to prove actual fraud, otherwise it's just a failed business venture and the investors assume that risk. Someone trying to launch a game studio could absolutely piss away 9 million out of sheer incompetence, no problem whatsoever. Crowdfunding is all the risk of investment with almost none of the reward. Most of the time the *best* outcome is that you overpay for a product that takes years to ship to you, and the worst outcome is that you get nothing.
Dave Jones has done multiple debunkings of solar roadways over on the EEVBlog, showing how impractical they are even if they could stand up to the stresses of being a road.
Austin: If they were sued for $715,000 they must have raised somewhere in that neighborhood. Also Austin: I guess $482,000 Answer: $845,000 What happened here?! Lol
There is a lot more water vapor in the air than you think especially in a humid state like fl, a cold drink sitting on the counter inside where there is already less humdity via a/c will generate 2-4 tbsp of water an hour with no air flow, with air flow if you could keep the plates cool enough and tune the air flow so you weren't just evaporating the water again it could work as emergency water but not as fast as there sayimg.
Solar roadways was sooooooooooo bad. Just a bad concept in general. They made that little demo that can barely power the LEDs that they put in it... and then what? Add the logistics of making all the roads even in a small country into this shitty gripless garbage that barely generates power and will probably just cause accidents on a slightly rainy day... What were all these idiots thinking? So much money in a project that, on its face, doesn't work. So many kickstarters are just these impossible items that have to disregard all known laws of physics to function.
The Skully Smart Motorcycle helmet one was easily one of the worst I had ever seen, very surprised it didn’t make the list with its Ironman like heads-up features and millions of dollars scammed.
At one of the places I worked we had water fountains that drew water from the air rather than having a water line, but I'm sure that took a long to refill
The worst one I know of is one I invested in. It was for a PS2 controller with a trackball. It took so long that the PS3 came out and was a year into that. I had them refund it. Luckily they were responsive. Then the product failed because they took so long.
Can you do a video of best Kickstarter/Indigogo successes? It'd be interesting to see what you both thought were also the best ideas from it that shipped :) Love this channel.
"That actually doesn't sound like a completely insane idea" - meaning the Cicret bracelet. Well, it does for anyone with the most rudimentary knowledge in physics... and a healthy dose of common sense ;)
Im sure the backpack makers were sued so they didnt have to pay the people back. Like how movie companies make small production companies and have them charge the entirety of the box office makings to the main company. Thats why a bunch of movies 'flop' even tho the theaters were packed
You guys should do the Sound Hero speaker! I was duped out of my money, along with thousands of people, and they got caught selling what little products they made on different websites!
I dunno how anyone ever thought that rebreather would work. That breathing principle only works for fish because they are so small, and have other biological ways to limit the amount of oxygen they use. Once you get up to the size of say a shark or bigger, you either have to develop actual lungs and go to the surface to breathe or you cannot ever stop moving just to keep the water flow rate high enough to get enough oxygen to survive. Or in the case of cephalopods develop a way to move the same amount of water whilst stationary, which they did with strong muscles around a siphon combined with the ability to _also_ breathe through their skin. And all that's _with_ the added biological tricks to limit oxygen usage that we humans simply don't have on nearly the same level.
I lost it at the company pivoting to liquid oxygen canisters. Oxygen is liquid at almost -300°f. Thanks, but I’d prefer to not flash freeze my respiratory system.
All are. If you have faith in your product idea, then YOU take the financial risks. Or you find ACTUAL investors that accept the risks in exchange for a percentage of profits. Kickstarter in general is nothing but corporate begging.
the solar roadway could work if it was just for a small gated community. The prospect of doomsday proof mansion living would really be attractive to people in Merica"
Most scams actually happen on Indiegogo. A few years back I backed a projector. "Gazer Projector: 360-Degree Visual Experience". One of the biggest scams in Indiegogo history. The chinese people behind it just ran with the money.
Well I unfortunately became one of the 4000 got scammed by the Dragonfly Futurefön... Wasted money that can buy a decent ultra book on it, very disappointed to say the least. Although I was quite happy how Microsoft's Lumia 950XL became some what like what Dragonfly Futurefön promised to be...
You have to keep in mind that many of these Kickstarters have fake backers, basically people associated with the project putting in money to make it seem like it has support.
Some of these were scams, but most of them were just unsuccessful or a dumb idea. Not researching which ones were actually scams and which ones were just failures is a lost opportunity. The guy who came up with the idea of solar roadways spent that money on developing his ideas, so it wasn't a scam, it was just a bad idea.
I would love to see y'all cover the opposite kickstarters that ended better then everyone hoped.
100%
Yes please
+1
Not entertaining
Definitely would love to see their reaction to Pebble in that video lol

and there is no consequence for running off with over 9million of peoples money?

The homeschool roast was painful 😂
As a person who was homeschooled, Austin now makes perfect sense 😂😂😂
I fell for the Solar Freaking Roadways and I still feel really dumb about it.
Dave Jones has done multiple debunkings of solar roadways over on the EEVBlog, showing how impractical they are even if they could stand up to the stresses of being a road.
3:18 Cracked up at the Fortnite shield noise
You forgot EVE/Dough monitors. Their first Kickstarter was a legit scam, and they're back at it again under a new name
I dont think Austin understands how big Kickstarter is and how little 42k actually is in the grand scheme of things 😆
Glad to see iDubbz is still doing this series
5:38 Bring Matt the Horizon
12:58 you didn't bleep Austin saying "Fuck aaawwwfff" hahaha 🤣
12:57 OMG did Aron not realise Austin cursed there? Their subtitler picked it up LMAO
👀
Bless!!! I missed this the first time 😅
Sneaky f-bomb
Being a follower of Captain D makes me acutely aware of the Cicret Bracelet.
1:19 Austin hold the weight joke comeback there like a champ 😄
8:17 LMFAO. Both due to Austin and Matt's reaction and how much this scam cost 😂😂
Austin has too much faith in humanity
Austin: If they were sued for $715,000 they must have raised somewhere in that neighborhood.
Also Austin: I guess $482,000
Answer: $845,000
What happened here?! Lol
5:35 mad props for using Bring Me the Horizon there... perfect fit (Can you feel my heart? i think?)
Coffee is tea. You do not squeeze beans to make coffee.
It's this kind of stuff that keeps happening that makes this kind of stuff keep happening.
That made more sense in my head
For a brief second I thought Austin was going to make a 50 Cent reference about his bulletproof vest. Missed opportunity Austin. 😉
Solar roadways was so poorly thought out. Big respect to Thunderf00t for debunking them at the time

I live in the tropics and yeah, it could make sense over here... But you'd probably get more water from collecting sweat, aka a stillsuit :p
1 minute and 18 seconds into the video and Matt already DESTROYED Austin
Glass roadways, we already have people who can’t drive for nothing. I’d rather have solar panel coverings over roads

I’m newer to this channel, but you guys are the best! Stay frosty! 🤘🏻💀🖤
Awesomely FUN video. I just wish you guys would also provide info as to what exactly happened to each individual or company who posted each scam.
there is more info on some of them in thegamerfrommars video the kickstarter scammers
havent watched all of the video yet but love the BMTH in the background of matt drinking the whole ocean 🤣
The Skully Smart Motorcycle helmet one was easily one of the worst I had ever seen, very surprised it didn’t make the list with its Ironman like heads-up features and millions of dollars scammed.
My favorite part of the Cicret bracelet is how it somehow projects black (according to the mockup images and videos).
So much fun checking you guys as always. Don't stop the scams coming so we can keep getting vidd like this 😂
Peachy Printer!! And that blender/radio/cooler/battery bank thing
My guilty pleasure kickstarter scam i go and laugh at from time to time is " Anime Tube". They have gone dead silent for quite some time now lol.
I could have scam funded so many people with dumb tech ideas, but im just too nice of a person to pull that BS.
THIS EDITING IS SOOOO GOOOOOODD!!!
At one of the places I worked we had water fountains that drew water from the air rather than having a water line, but I'm sure that took a long to refill
Matt is the reason California was in drought.
I love Kinsey
I like how they're using an Xbox 360 controller for "motion controls" when the Xbox 360 controller doesn't have motion controls.
5:38 Love that song.
You had us at, "Matte Surface:. :)
In this video Austin has too much faith in humanity
Wake me up before you indiegogo
Love you austin and mattttttt!

""3.5 million freedom dollars"" As an American I approve:')
Yes, wonderful episode lady and gents. I did not guess one correct... oh well, that is why I am not bankrupt I suppose?
Not surprised at some of these numbers when nonsense, terrible board games are regularly passing these numbers and don't have that scampeal.
Bring Matt the Horizon.

At 88% humidity on average during half the year, that water bottle would probably work In Queensland
that chorus hahahahahah 4million dollars!? lol dead
The All Controller was a huge scam. I guess a few people actually got theirs, and they were horrible.
Im sure the backpack makers were sued so they didnt have to pay the people back. Like how movie companies make small production companies and have them charge the entirety of the box office makings to the main company. Thats why a bunch of movies 'flop' even tho the theaters were packed
12:59 Austin loses it lol.
You guys should do the Sound Hero speaker! I was duped out of my money, along with thousands of people, and they got caught selling what little products they made on different websites!
Got a new phrase from this video " U.S. Freedom Dollars" 😂🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Was anyone else hype when Bring Me The Horizon started playing when Matt was drinking the ocean or was it just me?

Are used to do paving, so I know what it takes to build the road and that is not physically possible to build a road of glass panels lol .
I'm in the wrong profession. I need some Kickstarter money
Doctors amputated an inch of his leg? What? Umm... but the foot?
They obviously set the foot aside, cut a slice of leg, and then reattached the foot.
1.2 million was my guess for the solar road
Disregarding whatever a WiFi backpack would be
... What would a non-WiFi backpack be?
I lost it at the company pivoting to liquid oxygen canisters. Oxygen is liquid at almost -300°f. Thanks, but I’d prefer to not flash freeze my respiratory system.
i love how people are so willing to throw their $$$ at literally ANYTHING and then wonder why they get no return
Ya'll need to look at the flux keyboard lol.
Homeschooled explains so much.
This video could also be titled "why kickstarter isn't relevant anymore" or "we are terrible investors" .
These gills would would work in the liquid oxygen tank of a rocket. You might want to buy a rather good warming dive suit.
There is a reason that I believe that Kickstarter is absolutely a bad thing for society.
Props to the Bring Me The Horizon Song, hell yeah, who’s the one from your team listening to that genre of music?
All are. If you have faith in your product idea, then YOU take the financial risks. Or you find ACTUAL investors that accept the risks in exchange for a percentage of profits. Kickstarter in general is nothing but corporate begging.
Putting solar panels on top of your house is dumb let alone solar panels for a road 😂
Definitely bought the crystal washes. Feels rough to have that thrown in my face. Bastards.
Solar panel roads but is it durable enough to withstand snow chains?
But there’s one oxygen atom for every 2 hydrogen atoms…
I wish you guys would cover the Elio

If anyone is more interested in the Cicret bracelet, Captain Disillusion has a fantastic video on it
Let’s do this
worst kick-starter scampaigns
thought this was a reupload, turns out it's just the same content as TheGamerFromMars's video from a few days ago.

You forgot SlidnJoy dual screen device. That scam is STILL taking peoples money. they changed the to LeSlide
Hello internet Welcome to the Game Theory
GoFund me scams when?
BRING ME THE HORIZON ftw
You have to keep in mind that many of these Kickstarters have fake backers, basically people associated with the project putting in money to make it seem like it has support.
Where is the evidence of this?
Wasn't that air re-breather on Shark Tank?
Who knew Austin has opps 😳

You guys talked to Thunderf00t 😁
Looks like you just took the Thunderfoot "Busted" playlist and made a video...
I did not waste my money on the Triton. It was a perfectly reasonable investment.
Yessss!!!! BMTH!!!
