@@celestinez9406 I think it's rather the other way around, Meruem isn't that much of a threat as long as weapons like little rose exist and hunters smart enough to use them efficiently.
Pariston on the other hand is able to conceal himself in the political structure and fuck things up very badly without anyone stopping him (except ging of course supposedly)

@@martaleja9279 you would have to read / watch all over again to understand. But to make it simple: Netero did not care about the zodiac dress code... or even the rules. Netero was a free spirit looking for adventure and challange (just like ging and pariston). Pariston was chosen because he would never become the yes man and would provide netero a bunch of fun. The others admired the old man a lot, but could not fully understand him.

You skipped an obvious fact. Pariston is fascinated by Ging. One of the reasons Ging is elusive is Pariston wants to “play”. Pariston had his men attack he and Ging in a fake revolt so that Pariston could learn Ging’s Nen abilities. Pariston sacrificed men to do it since Ging dispatched them with ridiculous ease. Probably the only person that is a match for Pariston is Ging. However Ging has his own agenda.....

You forgot the fact that Ging is the only person who can read pariston, which annoys pariston . Back to wha you said , pariston made his men do that to ging but even so , ging saw through it and trolled pariston by saying he should fight ging if he really wants to know what he’s capable off .

Or just really lucky. the Joker is such a character. He is very methodical and calculated, but when he gets cornered, he somehow gets out of it almost miraculously. I'm not saying he's weak, he certainly is among the elite but he's just not OP.

Ging predicts every single thing and yup he is scarily dangerous.
True terror in an HxH character is realized when you ask 3 questions: How strong are they? What do they want? And what will they do to get it? If your answer to all those is "I don't know" then they are both unpredictable and unstoppable. At least some of Tserriednich's current goals and powers are known, but we haven't even seen Parriston use nen before.
Scary stuff, but what's even more frightening is that he smiled at Nanika's otherworldly Nen while everyone else was stunned
We've witnessed him using the first principles of Nen but we never see his unique Nen Ability nor do be even get mention of it

I think Pariston hates Ging because of the decisiveness he brings to the field. Ging is so perceptive, talented, and skilled that things are generally going to go his way in most situations (predictably so). He represents a stability that is counterproductive to the chaos that Pariston wants to create.

He hates him because Ging is too elusive, he’s has no dirt on him or even know his nen abilities. Even going as far as to have his own men attack him and Ging to sacrifice their lives just to see a little of it but Ging beats them no problem and still stays elusive and exclusive which angers him to no end.

I don’t know bro that might be an isolated point. I only say this because I believe kite didn’t get the chance to show the full extent of his abilities as a Nen user vs. neferpitou, and his nen master was Ging who’s a monster as far as we know. There’s also Kurapikas master. We really don’t know much about him. Killua and Gons masters Bisky and Wing. I just don’t think there’s too much to extrapolate between the master and students other than levels of nen use and personality. Could you give me an example as to what you mean when you say insight?
Cutie and technically all the temp Hunters. Don't see why they wouldn't count. Bushidora probably has Stars from cultivating a lot of competent but not powerful nen users. So quantity not quality of protégé. Cutie is probably decent tho. Don't think Pariston ever personally trained anybody like Wing.

He does that because Ging is the only one other than Netero who really has him figured out, or at least as much as anyone can figure him out.
There was also the information we got about how Pariston enjoys / loves when people 'hate'. He then looked at Ging and stated 'I wonder what I'd do to someone I hate'.

This reminds me of that episode of Star Trek TNG where Data is being outplayed in a game by an expert and realises he's not capable of being good enough to win, so instead of quitting he plays to stalemate the game and makes his opponent ragequit. Pariston is basically that lesson but expanded out into a whole character.
The reason I knew Pariston was powerful was when I noticed they are setting him up to be Ging’s rival for the DC ark. We already know how crazy strong Ging must be. He is the father of the MC and if you know anything about anime that alone makes him OP. So the fact that Pariston is being pitted against Ging or the fact that he even piqued Gings interest and maintained his attention should say enough. He will be a monster.
We know Ging is in the top 5 nen users in the world. I imagine Pariston is part of the top 5 as well

My best guess is Ging is either the 5th person out of the top 5 nen users or Netero straight up lied. I know it doesn't make sense but think about it in the way how those 2 characters act. Netero probably lied that he is a top 5 nen user so that it gets everyone's attention and annoys Ging (I can totally see Netero doing this). Also it's important to point out it was never revealed how Razor was apprehended by Ging. I think it is also another misdirect. It's completely and absolutely possible that ging just talked it out with razor because if we look back at his (limited) track record that's we know of, he doesn't seem to be a person to get physical or likes conflict. It's very likely that Ging sought Razor out for his unique skills that were needed for the game.
as for the top 5 - one that should automatically be on the list would be Beyond. Especially if you look at his design and theme. Whereas his father had an ability to represent ''the goddess of mercy'' he on the other hand is dressed like ''Guan Yu'' (the god of war) and seems to be in his prime with no clear motivations and outmanoeuvring zodiac being a non-issue. To top it off ging and Pariston being his underlings which should already be terrifying. (I know that those 2 has their own things going on as well but it's fascinating)
The other would be Botabai (Dragon) from the Zodiac since he was said to be the closest in age and also ability-wise to the late chairman. (probably top 4 or 5)

I don’t think Netero would lie about Gings capability. I agree it would piss ging off and that is somthing Netero would find humorous but we all know Ging is a monster. You said it wasn’t reveled how Razor was apprehended and that’s true but if you go back and watch the way they interact with eachother Razor treated Ging as his superior. Also when Razor saw Gons full power jajaken he thinks to himself “this kid is a monster, he really is your son Ging”. You then say Ging doesn’t seem to be a person to get physical? The only time we really see Ging he fights the entire hunter association just for annoying him and getting in his business about his relationship with his son lol.
I think it's important to remember that the only real experience we have pariston with his motivations were basically solely to honor netero's memory. We've never seen him work with his own goals in mind, which is what going is so intimidated by
To me owning the chimera ants was only a bluff card. Yes he actually had it but it was a bluff if he would actually use it. It is one thing to have a trump card and a complete other thing to have the end game button. And if what you say is correct Pariston does not want the game to end. So the ants were primarily leverage. Now unless this was the final game then, no Pariston would not unleash the ants.
Agreed. The fact that he hasn't used them PROVES he doesn't want the game to end. Because the ants basically allow him to win instantly and completely. And where's the fun in that. If he were to unleash them, I think it would be in a situation where he's cornered and about to lose outright. Essentially, If he thinks he won't be able to play anymore he'll use the ants to make sure nobody else does either.
@@conwaysquest6961 honestly I struggle with whether he would ever pull the ant card. It all depends on if this is the final game or not. If there is a chance for future games then never. But if he feels he is playing his final game then that is the only time I could see him use it

If its a game he wants obviously he wants the other players to be at an appropriate level for this threat. Pariston is the type of unhinged character I've come to love in most media formats. Motives are usually simple but, they can drive a story so well.
Pariston is like the embodiment of the fan base but within the show. Anything to keep the drama/game/story moving along and as interesting as possible. I dig this.

Togashi needs to lend you the manuscripts for the future plot points and just have you explain what he wanted out of the series. I've deadass consumed more hxh lore from you than canon materials because I haven't gotten around to the manga yet (Just about to start tho)

Pariston is such a brilliant character, definetely one of my favs. I dare to say he is one of the biggest if not the main threat in the series (and I'm not talking sheer power, but inteligence, guts, selfishness and political influence). I really hope Togashi gives up on giving up on HxH so we can see more of Pariston's potential.
Looking back at my fantastic experience of Hunter x Hunter, I was entirely suspicious of what he'll play after getting bored of supporting the entire association, maybe a murdering spree or someone who's not part of the association but a horrific monster that takes part as a zodiac
Pariston is easily one of my favorite characters in the series, and one of the scariest/most intriguing. I love him, the chairman election arc was so much fun. Always a good time when he's on the scene
I remember my first time being introduced to Pariston. He confused the hell out of me. Now it makes sense. He thrives on complete order and logic and it makes him more capable of manipulating others and appearing in a certain manor that clouds his persona. He’s complete balance and wants things to go on infinitely. He seeks the “Game” and it makes him appear very mysterious. Something tells me he is far stronger than we think. I believe his persona goes into his powers as well.
Might be that his base power is to perfectly hide any expression of his Nen even while it's active, like a partial God's Accomplice - then as a Three-Star, he probably has extensions down that path. Kinda like rats in the walls - sometimes you never know they're there.
3:37 that’s the line that sent shivers down my spine regarding Pariston. This dude is willing to put himself in unfavorable positions because he gets off on that and always seems to be able to work his way back to whatever point he desires. I feel like that goes against human nature of trying to find security and stability and limit the chaos in one’s life; that makes him very unnerving to me.
I always took “they couldn’t control him” as he was extremely rebellious, but I never realized that he was probably at the same strength as Netero.
Zoro got so lost looking for the subscribe button he ended up in the New World Review, his source for everything anime and manga.

The dichotomy of HxH videos. I’m always excited to see new videos and discussions. Then I have an equal amount of sadness knowing this series (this Arc) will never be finished.
I always see and hear people say 'Oh no be aware of Hisoka he's the worst and he's terrifying!' like ok he's very weird and his blood lust is scary but I hear no one talking about how scary Pariston is. Honest to God, watching HxH, Pariston was the one who scared and creeped me out the most, compared to Hisoka and even Illumi, Pariston is just another level of creepy for me.
I totally agree with you. But don't forget that Hisoka is also a pedo. If you didn't know (I'm highly aware that you know) he did ask Ulumi in the manga if he can rape killua. And that's pretty bad.
@@fecstheremarkableone77 Yes I agree with you, but Hisoka did that in order to save Gon (so that Killua realises that Illumi is tailing him and Alluka), it’s the intentions of a character that I pay attention too, although yes Hisoka is creepy in that way and the way he did it, Pariston just gives me different kind of goosebumps

Also, I think the reason Pariston likes Ging so much is that he realizes that Ging is the only opponent he's ever faced who could actually Beat him, even when he's giving it everything he's got. But Ging has gotten around this by simply refusing to play with him. And THAT, is what actually angers Pariston Hill, when he's unable to force someone to play his games.

Idk why but one of my favorite things in fiction is when two villains confronting each other. It's much more interesting to me than a hero vs villain. I know it won't happen but I would love a chrollo or a Paristan vs the 4th prince. To me that sounds like an amazing opportunity

Also Paris Tennessee is somebody who enjoys people he can't manipulate that's why he like Metro that's why he somewhat likes Jean because he can't aggravate them that quickly with his thing so he likes to play with them

Leorio being paristons rival doesn't fit into the story in anyway and is kind of dumb
Leorio just wants to live a normal life and become a doctor he doesn't give a frick about politics or fighting other hunters why would leorio suddenly be invested in being parist9ns rival out of the blue no hints no foreshadowing nothing that's a very forced way to bring a character back into a story

I do think ging can handle Pariston easily though. In the manga, ging wasn't intimidated at all at Pariston that he even teases him being weak during the recruitment of the expedition of beyond and that makes pariston angry at ging.
It's not like Pariston doesn't have a goal or anything, it's just that he is playing a different game than his opponent.
It was mentioned in the manga that Pariston's definition about winning is being able to make his opponent angry at him, if he manages to make his opponent angry at him then that is a win for him, that is why he is fond of netero since he is the only person who doesn't get angry at him making his game more interesting.
If his definition of winning is having the people angry at him then it is pretty obvious that his definition of losing is him getting irritated at his opponent. Netero didn't manage to do that, and now that netero is dead leaving the game they are playing as tie ( Since both of then didn't get irritated at each other) that is why he quit cause it's not fun anymore.
That's where ging comes in, I think the reason Pariston was the vice instead of ging is obviously because ging didn't care about the position leaving Pariston the only candidate that netero can't handle ( The evidence to that is that only ging:Boar and Pariston:Rat are the only zodiacs who didn't change their identity that is related to their respective signs).
The fact that these two are the only individuals in the zodiac that netero can't handle makes ging and Pariston tie at least in standings.
The only difference to them is that ging know how to play with Pariston's game since he is always in the spotlight because of his status as vice-president and Pariston don't know ging at all since he is busy with his friends finding ruins (too busy that he left his fucking son just to satisfy his hobby).
Ging already know Pariston's definition of winning which is why in the manga ging intentionally hit Pariston in his forte which is to make Pariston irritated, which is a success. In the manga at least, the only person who made Pariston lost at his game is ging.

@@everdream4200 I don't quite remember what chapter in the manga since it's been long since I have been rereading the hunter x hunter manga, but you can also see it in the anime, during the first episode of the election arc in the beginning part of the episode the zodiacs was introduced, it was said there that they have changed their personalities by the chairman's order but there are exceptions which is ging and Pariston.

I think people don't necessarily see him as 'good' or 'bad'. Just a man so principled he was a to experience, for a period of time, many different peaks with regard to what a man could be.
look i dont like saying any character is a "bad person" in hxh. Thats why i love this anime. Every character in the series is trying to do what they think is good, and every character goes about it the bad way. You can argue about every character being both good and bad at the same time

This is why Leorio will be the next main character of Hxh after Kurapika. I even have thoughts of Leorio vs Gyro. Leorio vs Gon. Leorio vs Pariston would definitely be a different type of novel that is unlike of a shonen.
But didn't pariston say that the former chairman( Netero) was way too strong and hunters needed someone weak like him to be chairman so they could relate? Although that might very well be part of his manipulation I guess.
It's hard to take that statement at face value given that all the zodiacs are exponentially stronger then average hunters(confirmed by hisoka) and all hunters are in turn exponentially stronger then non-nen users. If equal strength is a pre-requisite for relating then none of the zodiacs can relate to other hunters and no nen user could relate to a regular human.

There’s a power in this book I’m reading that I think is something like Pariston may have. At any point in time they’re able to create a branch reality that allows them to test out anything they want. If they like the results they can stay in that reality, if they don’t they can simply switch back.
In the book, the guy uses it (along with another persons power) to read out percentages of success and failures (for anything) and can use that information to accrue success dependent on how much or how little he manipulates those branching paths. But the point is, if he’s careful, the outcome will always be in his favor. And that’s the point where he and Pariston differ.
Pariston would use the ability to put himself at a disadvantage if it meant keeping the odds against a worthy hunt closer to 50/50.
It’s basically that marvel show what if except instead of the watcher he can choose to interfere as much or as little as he wants with little to no repercussions. But that’s where Ging is basically a natural counter to that ability, and a perfect rival to Pariston. As no matter what sort of variables he changes up, Gings resolve never wavers below 100% In fact Ging’s Hatsu should be called “me and *this* army”

pariston in his true nature is very "terrifying" from lack of knowledge on him on top of the fact he's so nonchalant. BUT i truly believe ging is a hard kryptonite for him per se, because ging to me seems to be naturally above his level with the same carefree attitude on the outside. i think this may terrify pariston deep down, but he's developed his persona to try and counter that fear and seem like something he really isn't to almost everybody else. also netero only picked him as vice for the fact he couldn't stand him and was like an opposite of sorts attitude wise, but as far as feats/praise go, ging is far beyond any other zodiac as far as we know

About Pariston. I understand the fear of him you're trying to convey in this vid and I'm kind of oversimplifying it, but there are just two reasons that he doesn't scare me much at all. I'm going to preface this with the fact that I'm not caught up on the manga. I don't want to put myself in the position where I'm desperately waiting for more all the time. So, there may be some relevant details I'm unaware of. However, spoilers are my not so guilty pleasure. So I know quite a bit more about many manga I haven't read than the average anime watcher.
First, as you so thoroughly detailed, he's impossibly unpredictable, but you've also done a great job of displaying that he's very predictable in his unpredictability. Which is always a comforting detail for me with both real people and fictional characters. If I can count on you to always zig when I assume you'll zag, or maybe even zag when I'm convinced you won't (as that's my first expectation) just to screw with me, then I'm forced to remain on my toes at all times. Which, with a character like Pariston himself, means simply watching him while I do my best to look like I'm not watching him. Even imagining my fictional self in the show, I can't imagine a self able to outmaneuver him, but I can imagine a self able to keep my head above water when in contact with him.
Second, it should be very obvious to anyone really paying attention that Ging is not a "hero" in any way, shape, or form. I don't think anyone in this show really qualifies as such. Part of what's so great about it is that it deals near exclusively in various hues of gray. However, he has resolved to be an obstacle in Pariston's path, seemingly just because he's decided that his antics could interfere with his own goals. Which is very significant to me, because based on everything I've read, he is the one person in all of existence that Pariston can't handle. The one person in all existence who he can't get dancing on his palm, and rather than that, seems to consistently be a few steps ahead of him. Once again, Ging is obviously not a hero, and I can't remember if the goals he's trying to prevent Pariston from screwing with qualify as something that would be helpful to the populace at large. However, to me, his very existence seems like evidence that Pariston isn't quite the unstoppable monster that Cheadle thinks he is. Of course, he is a monster, but he has a bare minimum one weakness.
Minor extra detail. Maybe I read into him too much, but I never want to take any of Netero's words at face value. It is frequently mentioned how similar he and Pariston supposedly are, so I feel that's logical. Also, that's honestly just what my gut tells me. As a result, for me, his statements about his difficulty dealing with Pariston create a boatload of question marks rather than any kind of fear of his potential power.

Pariston and (hisoka) displays all of the traits of a textbook psychopath. Based on the diagnostic definition of a psychopath he shows a lack of emotional processing which is displayed in the panel in which the other characters reacted to a strong presence. He further shows this with his manipulative personality and lack of long term goals. This shit is deep!

Pariston wants the dark continent to be his new playing ground and the zodiac as an opponent, but when Ging decided to go under Beyond Pariston became upset because it disrupted the balance he planned from both sides. When he tried to kick Ging out of the party he gets annoyed because he was being read by Ging like a book. That's when he felt hate for the first time.
