  • Today I'm finally sharing my cape! I made the Nell Cape (Style Arc) in December for the sew-along on my Patreon page (Orchid tier). You'll see a summary of the SAL that'll include lots of practical sewing footage during the sewing process. It's an interesting project for sure!
    I'm also sharing my thoughts on a brand like this that has a list for instructions and does not aim to teach any sewing.

    Great video. Definitely a must see for anyone wanting to make this cape since, as you point out, Style Arc instructions are so limited. Your cape is fabulous.

    I like the idea of lining the cape. In order to do this I would sew both fabrics as one and bind the edges as per the pattern.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  Год назад

      I wouldn’t do that. It’s bulky as it is already. I’m not a fan of that method. The seams would pull and not press flat. But that’s just me. I’ve done what you say before and was not happy.

    I have had my eye on this pattern for a very long time. I suppose you could line with both pieces together that act as one and then bind. It would be a big extra step basing it all together first. Some thing to think about for another long time.

    Your cape is gorgeous! I don't like having more than one layer of sleeves over my arms, so I really enjoy a good cape, hood, wrap and/or poncho in the cooler weather. I had picked out this one and Vogue V1818 as a more casual option, but second thoughts now because I would like it lined. I'll start with the Vogue pattern and worry about this one later. Thanks Karina.

    One question. How do you know how much linen to buy for making your binding?

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  Год назад +3

      I don’t really know. I eyeballed it and bought 1 meter. I had a lot left over and that’s fine because black tape will always be handy.

    Wonderfully educational as always! On your previous cape review, you showed a Gina Renee cape that you would make longer which would also be my preference. Would just lengthening the front and back pieces be sufficient, as well as the facings if there are any? What else would need to be considered?

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  Год назад +1

      Im not 100% sure because I don’t own the pattern and I don’t know how it’s finished or what the pieces are. I really can’t speculate unless I have the pattern in my hands.
