Rosa’s Home Fire Story: ‘They Were Here for Me’

Rosa was cooking in her kitchen when her pan erupted into a grease fire, ravaging her home of more than 20 years. To help in the hours after the fire, American Red Cross volunteers met with Rosa to provide comfort, emergency financial assistance and other critical support.
“They were here for me,” Rosa said. “Often you hear about Red Cross, but you never think you going to be the person or you going to be the victim ‘til you are. And now I can understand what other people go through. But even when I pulled up and I saw all the trucks, I was like, ‘Oh my God, they hear for me.’ And I thank all everybody for that.”
