Hes always had passionate and serious music. He just didn't get noticed until he tried to sell his quirkiness instead of sex because everyone else does that. People want something that is not only fun but relatable. I think he wanted to entertain people so as long as he gets to do that, he will continue to put on an act but create genuine music.
I mean, he has brought up that he was trying to make music he was passionate about and took seriously, then saw that the jokey stuff is what worked. I like to think he works his passionate side into what he is now. But yeah. Guy kind of wins i guess.
