This show is on fire this season! This episode had me scared and filled with emotion. I just can't wait to see how this season ends. This honestly felt like it was like episode 15 and next episode was the season finale
The way Judith is talking during the conversation with Daryl, it reminds me so much of Carl. How she's protective of her younger sibling, and how she's never afraid of death, she just cares about the people around her.
Stephanis Group could see the satelite. Maybe they'll see the fire.. And Negan is going to flip so fast when he figures out that Judith and Lydia is at Hilltopp.
The sacks that Beta had been nailing to the trees were collecting tree sap. That was why Jerry said it (the liquid that covered them) smelled like a Christmas tree. And apparently it's very flammable. If it's one thing that annoys me, it's when people, like Tara or Alden, forget that they were once on the enemy's side as well. Tara was always snapping at Dwight, but she was on the Governor's side; that didn't stop the group from forgiving and bringing her in. Alden was a Savior, one of the group's worst enemies before the Whisperers shuffled onto the scene; they forgave and brought him in. I'm not saying he's wrong in snapping at Mary or being suspicious of her, but he also needs to take a good long look in the mirror and remember who he was before joining Hilltop.

Such a great episode. Daryl was awesome. Daryl and Judith scene was great. Eugene had great moments. Daryl is proving to be an incredible leader. Rick would be so proud of him and Judith. Also, that Lydia and Carol scene was nice. Another great reaction!

I had so much emotion this episode; wanting Carol and Ezekiel to talk and heal, being so DONE with Eugene (srsly you don't tell anyone about your secret radio-lationship n then blow up at Rosita?! No. Fsck outta here w that), worrying for Daryl with his injuries but bein damn impressed by his communication n leadership skills. MY BABY LYDIA SPITTIN THRUTHS AGAIN. Everything with Judith, RJ, and Daryl. Just yes. The creativity of the Whisperers' fight and the editing, in particular, were just on-point. I felt for Earl and Alden as they're still grieving their loved ones n the Whisperers are responsible so they're very raw n wanting a target to direct those emotions.
After watching this episode for a third time with you, I became very emotional. This entire episode had GOT vibes to it: the calm before the storm. I found it interesting the different perspectives and parallels shown. From Daryl leaning over the banister surveying the group like Rick did when he surveyed work on the bridge. From Daryl looking contemplative and sad before going to war like Rick did when he visited Abe and Glenn's graves before all out war. His heart to heart with Judith and showing he respected her but wanted her to be safe just as Rick had done with Carl in the past. It showed the transfer of leadership and burden it brings. Carol exiling herself after the cave like Daryl did when Rick disappeared. Carol speaking with Zeke, Lydia, and Daryl in an attempt to make amends. Lots of foreshadowing to me with Carol and Rosita. This was a very good episode though I am left disappointed in seeing how ill prepared our group is for this attack. I am left in a quandary on Negan's actions here. It really makes the mystery of whom let him loose in Alexandria. I thought for a time it was Carol but her recent actions makes me doubt its her. With Daryl's nonchalance on Negan's actions with the Whisperers, my guess it could be him especially since he's had no interaction with Carol. His only redemption after Hilltop's destruction is if he kills Alpha. Get ready sweetie! Its going to be a wild ride!

Thought you might find this interesting...regarding Judith on her radio calling “Daito” (Michonne)... The word daito is a more generic term for “long sword”. It is mainly used to refer to the long sword, as counterpart of the short sword called wakizashi or Shoto (Small/short sword). I really hope to hear Michonne call Judith the counterpart. I think he yelled gasoline cause everyone would know that they are covered in something flammable. I think he just didn't realise what it was at first. If he yelled tree sap, everyone would be like oh ok, that's weird but whatever. But him yelling gasoline lets everyone know to get the hell outta there before u burn to death. I live in the states and like to go on the occasional camping trip, and I had no idea about pine resin. I had to look it up lol. Apparently pine trees secrete resin - NOT sap - and it's extremely combustible. Worse, it's extremely sticky, so when someone gets hit with it then lit on fire...ouch.
I still have faith Negan is just playing the long game and waiting for the right time to strike, double agents HAVE to do some bad things to get close to the person they are after so as to avoid suspicion but Negan is hard to read half the time.

That wasn’t gasoline. Remember that first scene where Beta was carving out the trees and there were balls that were on the side of the trees? That is sap from the trees that were used as a flame accelerant. They launched them at the survivors and the wooden gates.
I think Negan is biding his time, looking for the right moment to take out Alpha. He was even trying to stall Alpha by saying they should capture them instead

You are correct on both points. The sap burns super hot and fast in the tree. I can only imagine outside of the tree.

hey katie great reaction as always, it was tree sap they used in the projectile balls at hilltop, tree sap is highly flammable which is something I didn't know!
Remember the first scene where the Whisperers were draining sap into those sacks? That was pine sap which is highly flammable. That's what they threw at them.

I think he yelled gasoline cause everyone would know that they are covered in something flammable. I think he just didn't realise what it was at first. If he yelled tree sap, everyone would be like oh ok, that's weird but whatever. But him yelling gasoline lets everyone know to get the hell outta there before u burn to death. Besides, they have no gas for cars so how and why would the whisperers have any? Just what I took from it.

I didn't remember who it was that yelled "It smells like Christmas Trees!", but ur explanation makes "all the sense" because anybody else wouldn't know tree sap burns but they "know" about gasoline! Writers, i'm still watching u!

@@samuelmiller4964 yeah it was Jerry that yelled it and I think when Daryl heard him and realised what was happening, he yelled gas to get everyone's attention and for them to book it. And I'm guessing gas wouldn't be any good and hard to come by too.

What we thought was gasoline was actually tree sap we saw them tapping in the beginning. I had no idea it was flammable either! Daryl and Judith, we all know he got $20million so he’s not going anywhere fast! Can’t wait to see how this war plays out!

I live in the states and like to go on the occasional camping trip, and I had no idea about pine resin. I had to look it up lol. Apparently pine trees secrete resin - NOT sap - and it's extremely combustible. Worse, it's extremely sticky, so when someone gets hit with it then lit on fire...ouch.

I still have faith Negan is just playing the long game and waiting for the right time to strike, double agents HAVE to do some bad things to get close to the person they are after so as to avoid suspicion but Negan is hard to read half the time.

That wasn’t gasoline. Remember that first scene where Beta was carving out the trees and there were balls that were on the side of the trees? That is sap from the trees that were used as a flame accelerant. They launched them at the survivors and the wooden gates.
I think Negan is biding his time, looking for the right moment to take out Alpha. He was even trying to stall Alpha by saying they should capture them instead
