Oh hi! I remember you asked me in the linup why I never say “hi”. That’s just totally not common where I learned to surf, and it never came across my mind this could be percieved as something disrespectful or rude. But now I do it much more often thanks to you 🙏. It definitely makes a difference. Cheers, see you again one day!
My kids learned at Kuta from the same couple of local guys over many years. Kuta is convenient but can be scary when the rip starts (box waves) or when too crowded Canggu was not too crowded back then but is still not really beginner friendly My favourite for my kids learning to surf is still Padang Padang, wished we had gone there from the beginning. Less crowded, no shore break, and nice gentle waves. Except when its ON!
Hi , I want to take my kids to Bali to learn to surf one day. The only time I ever saw Padang Padang was 6ft barreling lefts. But I heard there is a soft right there. Is that where your kids learned?
It’s amazing that people go to different places, paddle out, and don’t say “hi”. Happens everywhere and is the number one thing that leads to hassles, drop-ins, and all types of problems. It’s not even really surf etiquette. It’s just simple manners.
Not every spots in the world are friendly to outsiders. It should apply for both side. Sometime being quiet is just a way to stay on the low and avoid getting bully by locals
@@AxelDavyn completely disagree. When you’re home you shouldn’t have to be the first to show respect. Visitors are just that... visiting. Try being friendly and saying hello first, and if a local has enough friends then that’s fine. You tried. And I’m not talking about chewing someone’s ear off. It’s amazing how many people just don’t nod “hello”.
@P C because at the point when you and a stranger are doing the same activity in the same place together you are not total strangers and should atleast say hi. It generally leads to a better experience for everyone and more fun in the water. This "oh its a stranger i dont need to say hi" attitude just causes u to miss out on potential life long friends
@P C because you’re in their back yard? You’re visiting their home break? The entitlement smells to high heaven. I’m not saying locals should be harsh to visitors but when you’re visiting somewhere new you should be respectful and understand that not everyone else is there for your pleasure.
Great video. Me and my Mrs go there twice a year. Stay at legon kedron or perinan beach. Very crowded but when it gets big you can get a few. Always give locals respect. Hope you guys are doing well with all this covid bs. Can't wait to get back there. Stay safe. Cheers
Canggu is blown out. Soooo many drunk ass tourists at night. Southern end of Bali is way more laid back. Green Ball and Nyang Nyang were the best areas I surfed.
Unfortunately, even now, there are plenty of arseholes who act up as if they own the place. Getting aggro and voicing aggression. Such tools. Basic respect and some actual knowledge of surf etiquette goes a long way
Ahhh i like this interview session with local... Keep it coming pls.
🙂👍👍

That is strange to me too. Young people are very closed off or clicky nowadays.

Just say hello ;)
Interesting, I would call 'dangerous' something like Mavericks or Pipeline. Busy chaotic line ups exist all over the world.

Holy crap, they're tiny.
Call some place paradise and kiss it good bye.
🙂🙂
Kooks can get bashed by locals.
