"Yes, hybrid tech. dates back to the late 1800s when guys like Ferdinand Porsche began building battery-powered electric motors. But hybrids disappeared for nearly 6 decades and it wasn’t until the 1960s that people began reexamining their market potential. Throughout the 70s, the EPA got in the way; then in the 90s, Clinton created a hybrid program, but the cars never made it past the concept phase. So I stand by my claim that the potential of this technology is just now being realized." Jessi
"It's just to demonstrate that these are direct quotes from members of the Motor Trend crew. If a post contains no quotes, that signifies it's a general statement made on behalf of the staff." Jessi
"So great to hear from another female car enthusiast, and many thanks for your support! As for the car I was driving, it was an A7 and, sadly, it was an automatic..." -Jessi
the etron is 4wd with electric power which is built up and stored in braking then used to help acclerate and use less fuel. but apart from that its the same car, same engine etc etc. theres only electric power at the front wheels the tdi is still rear wheel drive.
Great episode! The excitement portrayed in this video by the host kept me hook..... Goes to figure only true motor enthusiasts can host a show great job!
Jessie- Always thought Atlanta girls had it hands down with the accent, but you've got that Gossip Girl New York thing giving them a run for their money
4,20 a gallon is peanuts compared to what people in Europe are paying: $7/gallon or €1,40/liter and gas is.. brace your self... $9/gallon. Just saying.
They did realize the potential for suburban use and sold the Dual Power and a pure electric version as delivery vans and were quite successful with milk delivery companies. The only thing that brought them down was the price because they were more expensive compared to gasoline powered cars built at the time. We have a Woods electric touring car with the same drive train as the delivery vans and has a 50 mile range on a single charge. Back in the late teens and twenties that was a lot!
Was that me hanging out on turn 11? For those who haven't seen an Audi R18 run in person, they make almost 0 engine noise. My friend said it's going to be pretty boring when everybody is running the same technology but I figure there will be some noise in the GT classes. LEMANS RACING ROCKS! nascar BLOWS 8-P And that was my GTO under the cover in front of the billboard at gate 3 at the Sebring race WOOP!
diesel is cheaper to make than gas. it is the same stuff. crude oil. the reason it is exensive is beyond me. trucks burn it, houses burn it.. planes burn a similar thing to diesel.. called number one diesel. kerosene really. you burn less of it, to make more power.. really.. it is a crap shoot really. you make less power with gas, and burn more of it. spending more on a cheaper fuel. or spend less on a fuel that gives you more btu power per ounce than gas. is cheaper to make. you child.
Peugot ran out of money... that's not Audi's fault. Toyota is "supposed" to be coming back. Acura was in LMP2 - and was supposed to move up to LMP1 - but looks like they scrapped. Porsche is going back to it now that Audi is closing on their records... but now that they are both part of the VW group - it will be interesting to see if Audi moves on to another type of racing.
I like the fact that Audi is taking their time with the hybrid tech (as with the other high-end auto makers) instead of rushing into it like GM and co. A wise company does not learn from it's own mistakes, it learns from that of others. I'm looking forward to them perfecting that E-Tron tech. Possible game changer.
It's so cool to see an interviewer/journalist who obviously enjoys their job. The unique way she sounds like a big kid doing something they've dreamed of all their life and still brings the facts and stories across accurately is a rare and beautiful combination. Kudo's to Jessie and Kudo's to whoever dug her up and gave her a shot in this biz!
Same thing happened to me when I drove close to the Nürburgring Nordschleife, I was excited just recognizing the track, seeing that I was so close to it. And I wasn't even driving on it yet! More "OMG, this is so cool" happened while driving my first lap, not from the speed but just from being there.
Dammit Jessi, I have to say, I personally had my doubts about you until this episode. Audi by far is my favorite brand name and when I say you in all that awesome Audi gear my
@cdc9906 What? Cute blonde girls can't love cars? You do know that boys aren't the only people that love cars! Girls do too. All though rare too find, it is indeed true, girls do love cars. And.... Whats worth having a girl if she doesn't love cars???
Look at the credits, you misogynist -- "Jessi Lang: Writer/Host & Producer" AND MotorTrend has already said that they don't use teleprompters. None. //Now, who is it that doesn't seem to know much about what they're talking about?
the reason diesel is more expensive is corporate/government folly. it has a lot to do with refining capacity. The reason in Europe there are so many diesels is because they realize all the points you made.
they could have but they didn't.... I have no idea why they didn't.... except that they don't want to use the resource to produce the chassis at all... or to have to service the private teams.
A7 = om nom nom, best looking Audi of all times if I can say so. Too bad it was automatic :-( (well the A6 (C4) and A8 (D2) are also sexy classy cars, for enthusiasts of older Audis :-))
Awesome presentation Jessi. You are a truly passionate car enthusiast. I much prefer to see you in videos like this rather than behind an anchor desk. This is where you really shine!
Are you kidding me?!? I work at an Car museum and we have wiring diagrams for a "Woods Dual Power" a "hybrid" built in the 1920's. Hybrids are defiantly not in their infancy.
Peugeout could have sold the Chasis and competed that way like Porsche did with the Penske DHL racing team & Mclearen with Vodafone or back in the day with Marlboro
Poor Dr. Urlich - must be a tough job getting interviewed about your job by such a pretty girl - LOL. it must take a lot of will power not to ask her out to dinner!!
MotorTrend is doing fantastic work in these videos on their various channels. All this fantastic content makes one wonder why all the lame content on Speed and Velocity.
i know, that was my whole point, im not criticizing on it the position, just saying it's dangerous because of the airbag. plus, i seen worse on the road before.
Peugeot was a no show this year?...Audi may as well have been racing by themselves, like there's any competition in that class with those guys around anyway...
Hi Jessi, really great questions and conversation with Dr Wolfgang Ullrich ... he really appreciated you and your questions... COOL! Keep up the good work ...
The old (sebring version) of the R18 looks better than the E-tron. but i really like the hybrid (NOT QUATTRO) system, and it's really really quick and efficient.
Nice video guys but i feel like y'all are trying to be drive but your motor trend with millions of magazine subscribers so y'all get the best inside info!

Jessi
"Exactly! It's such a cool experience, regardless of what you're driving or how fast you're going."

"Yes, I absolutely was. It's just shifted to the left a bit to accommodate the mic placement."

2:02 - Kneeling next to the driver is Leena Gade. Race engineer for one of the three R18s.
From this point, R.I.P Peugeot Sport team total.
This track is hard on the car and your kidneys!

Audi does so much research in diesel technology and what do we consumers get from that, basically the same volkswagen 2.0 tdi as the one 10 years ago.
It's so cool to see automotive journalists get excited on their assignments. Thank you for sharing your experiences, Jessi. Clearly, you had a blast.
Nice video guys but i feel like y'all are trying to be drive but your motor trend with millions of magazine subscribers so y'all get the best inside info!
Very very nice video, excellent production, extremely high level journalism. Thanks! Congratulations to Jessi Lang and the hole Motor Trend TEAM.
Congrats to Audi. 4:10 the new one looks sick, guess they are gonna run it at the 24hrs of LE MANS. Hope they will be at Lime Rock in July.

I really don't blame you! I would be stoked just to be at the track. And the fact that you got to drive on it is a huge honor! I envy you!
2:10... Never noticed Jessi was so short! :)
BTW thwse episodes are alot better, clearly Jessi is more confortable in a role like this.
Such a beautiul girl talking about such beautiful things. I love watching her!
Hey, Jessi! Do an interview with Leena Gade, please!!
2:02 anybody can tall me what is the model of the sunglasses of the race driver who give the autograph ???
ps. AUDI FOR THE WIN !!!
tbh the closest competition to audi was the muscle milk hpd which was at one point leading and spent a lot of time in 2nd
This should be interesting. When regulations require ballast, if it is a hybrid, can that ballast be a bigger battery?
you had to wait for the cars to come back around the track for each of those retakes at the end lol...i see the frustration
The hostess wasn't born in the states... is she Russian or Icelandic? Interesting accent she has... kinda cute
its first time ever i see Dr Ullrich in such a relaxed state and laugh for such a long time. Good to see that.
If you like Audi, racetracks, and Jason Statham, look up "Truth in 24" on itunes. It should be free too.
I'm surprised nobody in the comments has pointed out how hot Jessi Lang is yet in this WOT videos.
Hey Jessi, Wish I could have met you at the race. : )
I love your reviews, keep up the excellent work.
Jessi, I want a poster of you posing next to an audi hanging on my wall. how do i order it.. lol
my mother always told me angels exist

Your excitement is contagious, Jessi. Miss you at Roadfly, but hope you're happy at MotorTrend.

It's nice to see Jessi so comfortable. It makes for a much better show. Great job, keep it up!
the perfect girl.
beautiful funny and a car enthusiast
why cant I find a girl like this
Jessi is gorgeous. But I hate Audi, wish yellow Corvette could beat it to death/
you are really short, you almost eat the stearingwheel
Jessi what kind of car/cars do you have daily driver? And do you race any guys?
O_O.. she's driving 35 mph and is screaming "THIS IS SOO COOOL AHAHAHA :D" -.-?
Hey does somebody know how does R18 ultra differ from e tron and TDi ,Cheers!
You bring beauty and personality to the MotorTrend team Jessi. Thank you !
Jessi you are great at what you do can you get me a job doing what you do?
diesel is the future mates.less fuel with more power. diesel is the future
It's called a parade lap for a reason, you're not supposed to "go faster"
I think the changing of the regulations says a lot about deisel engines.
2:05 Andre Lotterer was eye fucking Jessi Lang. Can you blame him?
that's the most pissed off guy who's signing a poster of all time.
Nice job Jessi and great job MotorTrend! These vids are great!
Great Corporate Video, lol, did Audi also paid for each click? lol
i dont know what it is but you look hotter in this video :D

he seat position is bad. too close to the steering wheel.

Of course the corvette has Mcdonalds for a sponsor. smh
Awesome vid, can't wait to see that e-tron at Le Mans.
47 mph so cool? u had to say it for the camera didnt u
Jessi has a bit of a bad side with that barbwire tat ha
Correction, I believe she was behind a 2000 to 2002 S4
hard to decide which is hotter, the e-tron or the girl
either hes monsterously tall or shes extremely short
who was that happy lady an what she do with jessie?
Audi's R18 TDI or Jessi? hmm both are so hawwt :p
Hey Jessi, what's with the hat? No hats for you!
