Obvara firing June 2023

This is the third firing at Chiltern Open Air Museum site with the DCPG Kiln Group. Today we did a raku firing, using mainly sawdust to create the carbon infusion, into white and turquoise raku crackle glaze. We also tried out OBVARA finish technique, where the red hot pots are plunged into a flour and yeast mixture and then rapidly cooled in water. It is hot, steamy and very exciting to watch the charcoal change in the pots as the heat burns off the yeast mixture. We got some excellent glaze results and had a fabulous afternoon's firing.
