- On Episode 408 of Spittin’ Chiclets, the guys are joined by Trevor Zegras and Brady Tkachuk. Z joined (47:50) to discuss getting the NHL23 cover, what he has planned for this season, and his pet dragon. But first, the guys open the show and discuss Murls crazy hot streak, along with Subban and Chara retiring. Then the boys are joined by Brady Tkachuk (02:09:30) to dive into the Sens big offseason, playing against his brother, his brutal golf game and tons more. The fellas wrap with some golf talk and a ‘Grinds My Gears’ from RA.

5. I’ll believe the “significant cap increase” when I see it. Only then will paying any NHL superstar player more than 9, maybe 10 million make sense. Makar= amazing contract. If the cap goes up by 10 million dollars then McKinnon contract will be smart

2. If HRR> Player salaries, and the escrow debt paid off, then they’ll be able to raise cap by the amount you guys are suggesting will happen.
3. All of this seems to hinge on HRR going way up…doesn’t most of this come from fan interest, tv, merchandising…and people being able to pay more money for tickets, paying in some form to watch games…

The McKinnon deal almost assures that the Avs will not be a dynasty. If you want to win cups as a Star player, sign for less than 10 million a year.
The cap is going up. Avs have their core locked in. No team has won the cup with a 10 mil player but when you look at percentage of cap when they win, teams have won with highly paid players.
@@kjbrown050493 Idk man.. I think this season the Avs won't win the cup 2x in a row. I just think they lost too many assets this off season. And then the 23-24 season his 12.6 mill contract sets in, and will eat up another 3 mill of of their cap space. it's gonna be rough for them thats for sure. They can still do it, but now it's even harder in all honesty
@@jleif7736 I think they go back to back. I loved Kadri, Burky, and Keump as Avs but they're all replaceable. Sturm left too but he was basically a deadline rental anyway and didn't have much impact in my eyes. EJ's 6 mil comes off the books when Mack's 12.6 kicks in, which is basically his old cap hit plus EJs. EJ retires or sticks around on veteran sweetheart deals of ~1 mil a year if he wants. There's definitely issues to figure out, like Newhook, Byram, Toews, Compher all need new deals soon, but Sakic and his staff have been great so I have faith in them. It's hard to go back to back, but Tampa did it and the Avs are definitely built as well as Tampa.
@@kjbrown050493 They might, I think this is their best chance to do it. But after this season, winning the cup for them is going to get harder. Yes Salary cap goes up, but people act like their aren't any downsides to that. Which there are. People start asking for more money, that's just how the game goes. having 21 million of your cap hit going to 2 players, makes it hard to build around them. Just look at the Maple Leafs, they are a perfect example of this.

If you want to win championships you need to leave your team money to fill the other 19 spots with players, you need to have a contract that isn’t too big to be traded if you decide your franchise isn’t making the effort, and you need to give the team room to fail on a deal or two while staying a contender. You want to win cups Take less money. Some star player will figure it out eventually.
