Be very proud of yourself Saffy that took guts to do on your own i get it now your safe i know it is a old show but nothing slows you down i sure look up to you and you are so happy and crazy love it !!!! I hope your are healing up good miss your shows !!!💗
🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧Hi Saffy🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 your country Will be proud of you because you're very talented and Good Human being. And you always replied to my comments with very good emojis.Stay Happy and do some tours as and when you Will be Fit and Energetic
Thank you so much ❤️
everyday is a school day, i have been riding motorcycles since 1966 and a mechanic for the same amount of time and i'm still learning, well done for trying, it's the only way to learn.
When it comes to bikes you grow as you learn
Ireland wasn't a "Holiday" but neither was it a "Disaster" I would say it was an "Adventure"!! You'll be talking about it for years to come rather than just "Oh yeah Ireland was nice". You've come so far working on the bike it's really good to see. Experience and tools come from doing one job at a time until suddenly you've got the confidence and loads of tools to do all sorts of things. Just enjoy the little victories! :)
Wise words :D it was certainly something ahaha I hope my next trip over goes better
Saffy, a disaster is when you do not make it back .One tip when you have to take the tools to your bike is to take photos first before removing anything which gives you instant reference if you are unsure with re- assembly. Happy days ahead x
That's a great idea!!+
Baby wipes work well and are cheap for cleaning dirt and grease off wheels, etc.
We live and learn with working on bikes.
Great point!
Stay with it kid , we all started at the beginning
Thank you 😊
Staffy I loved these two. You brought back happy memories from my past. It must have been around 1967 or 1968 I got my first motorbike, a 125 BSA Bantom, a none runner of course. Then my tool kit was a flat headed screwdriver and a rusty old adjustable spanner. I couldn't ever get the spark plug out! Ten out of ten for not giving up. And yes I smashed my knuckles plenty of times till I sussed it! Wishing you many happy and safe years ahead of you.
You may not be much of a mechanic but your videos are always getting better. Keep it up.
Whatever you think of your maintenance skills (they are probably already better than the many who ride bikes every day) your film making skills are great!
Life one day at a time
Maintanence one job at a time
Can't do it all at once
Take your time
And go with the flow
All the best
Ride safe 👍👍👍
Thank you so much ❤️ 💓 💗
Well done Saffy! We've all been there putting a bike back together at midnight because you have to be somewhere tomorrow morning...
Thank you so much ❤️
You'll have to revisit Ireland for a refreshed experience. We'd love to have you & Rocket come here again.
200% - Ireland didn't get its moment
Thanks for sharing, your story. Best video series I've seen in long time. Top quality video! And the story it self got me! You are my DIY hero, not afraid of trying out new things.
Well done. And as others have said, Ireland was not a disaster but a learning curve. You got back home safely and with everything attached. And you have used it to add to your skill set.
For your chain, please consider the Tutoro oil chainer. Made in England.
Invest in brake cleaner and a spray pump bottle, it cleans everything including the sprocket covers. It also evaporates .
I did end up buying some! It will be coming on my trip with me for periodic cleaning through out the days :D
Just remember none of us knew how to do maintenance when we started
I think your doing fantastic 😎
Thank you so much ❤️
@@SaffySprocket just stay crazy 😜
Hi Saffy I have caught up on this series and you did great for your first attempt, so chin up girl you rode to the garage, most abandon it completely and call a garage to collect it, or crash at the end of their road 🤣😂🤣😉
Thank you so much 🥰
I know that I just seen you segment on the first time you are doing your maintenance...better late than never but so proud that you kept moving forward.
You are doing so well. And you have the love for the ride and adventure. After 50 plus years of riding I can see it in you. Onward and forward for you. Cheers. Tony NZ
My partner and I traveled through UK ,Scotland Wales Isle of Man and Ireland and some of Europe Czech France Germany Switzerland and Austria back in 2019 . Returned home to NZ just in time for COVID. Shipped out Suzuki Vstrom 650 back to NZ . The rides and vistas over here are well worth a trip at some stage.
Well done Saffy.
With no (not yet) mechanical skills you teardown 1/3 of the bike 😆 and you resemble it back again.
It cost you some (well spent) money, blue & black spots, sweat and time. But you learn a LOT again.
How more you doing it how better you will be/self-reliant🙂. Mechanic, planning, vlogging, driving etc.
A nice achievement again :)
Thank you so much :D
Ireland wasn’t a disaster. A trip like that is either a great ride, or a great story. You learned a lot and got a great story.
🥰 thank you so much for your support 🙏
More experienced, better equipped, still laughing and smiling. Your doing great Saffy...
Thank you so much ❤️
Well done saffy you have probably achieved more out of this than any of us wold try to do. Like you say your better equipped for lone riding now having an understanding of what is going on with your bike. Stay safe. Xx
Thank you so much :D
Your summing up in the video is pretty much accurate.
The last few weeks have moved you forward immensely in understanding a bit about how your bike works and basic maintenance.
As a result, when touring you will have more of a chance of preventing something catastrophic happening by recognising when NOT to continue riding and perhaps by being able to fix your bike yourself if something does arise.
Possibly, the best few weeks of your motorcycle ownership although it maybe didn't feel it!
Really looking forward to seeing your next adventure safe in the knowledge you have learned an awful lot about the mechanical side of your bike!
Well done!
Thank you so much :-) It's been frustrating but I'm glad it happened!
Wow your becoming quite the philosopher 😂 & I’m impressed the way you have coped your roller coaster mechanics corse 👏👏 now you can move on with confidence,it’s nice to be able to see the bigger picture. Good luck with you journey you have planned. M 🏍💨
They called me PhiloSaffical as a child 🤣
You did it absolutely right by cleaning the front sprocket cover -- if you did not do it, it would shorten the life of both sprocket and the chain. I clean that area every 1,000km, when I clean and lube my chain.
Don’t look at it like a disaster. Look at it as an adventure. We learn by doing things we never have done before and it’s natural to not doing it by the book from the first time. Life isn’t about doing things in the one and only correct way, it’s about keep trying until success and grow along the way.
Keep sharing your experiences and inspiring more people to follow their dreams.
Ireland was exactly what it was supposed to be, you learning lessons about touring. You know a lot more than when you started, sounds like it was very successful to me.
Every day is a school day and I learned a long time ago to focus on the positives in life and put the negatives down to experience. A lot of people would not have attempted to change sprockets and brake pads, let alone do an oil change so well done. Next job will be much easier.
Thank you so much! and I hope so :D Either way I had a lot of fun!
You're an absolute inspiration to any new riders and other riders who want to work on there own bikes and get out there and do it, keep it up You're doing a great job 🏍🏍
It's a steep learning curve if you decide to do your own work on your bike, the plus side is, if it breaks you have the ability to fix it or know what's wrong with it.
Best advice when working on your bike, first off, don't rush into things! plan what your going to do, what tools you might need, watch some videos on RUclips so you have an idea of how to tackle the job.
You will come across problems, but don't get down hearted. If your not sure ask your followers. I expect many on here including myself have been working on bikes for many years and have learnt many hints and tips along the way, and happy to share with someone who is starting out spannering.
One thing you can't really teach, is how tight something can be! Major nuts and bolts you need a torque wrench, but things like small allen head screws/bolts don't take a lot to snap them or strip the threads!
You'll get there, just take your time!
Sprocket, you finally sorted it!
Yesssss
Glad to see anyone trying home maintenance, you get to know your bike better that way. Just a couple of points to help out. If the allen key gets stuck in a fastener like you had just turn it backwards a little and it should free up. Also there seems to be a lock nut missing from your gear change rod. There is one at the footrest end but not at the engine end, it shouldn't undo as you ride as there is the one lock nut but for belt and braces try and get that replaced, and remember one of the nuts is a left handed thread.
So pleased your bike is up and running again Saffy. You have achieved what you set out to do and have the tools for future use. Looking forward to see you back on the road.🏍
Thank you so much ❤️ and ita good to be back 😊
*_Great Video thanks for sharing it with us. I just put new tires on, also! Ride Safe and have Fun._*
Great to see you growing in confidence and skills, always good for when you're out there touring, like you say you may not be able to fix it but you'll have a good idea what the problem is. I've spent many a late night in the garage and one lesson I learnt and can do now, with the advent of smart phones is to take a pic before and as I strip something down because you can guarantee when it comes to putting it all back together, I'll probably be tired and not thinking straight. Ride safe
Getting better every time.
I like the screwdriver chain tension trick, great interesting video.
Ah man it's such a clever idea
Thats the exactly what the best lesson was is to understand the bike/car or anything that tools can be used on
It was a tough lesson but a good lesson!
Car drivers generally check the oil level and tyre pressure. Bikers get stuck in. Well done, good job there, and it’ll be so much easier next time as you’ll recognise issues as they arise not as they become critical.
At the start of the intro, that’s why you pull and not push, valuable lesson learned 😂😂. Good on you for giving it a go you’ll learn and accomplish SO much 👍
We all have to learn this the hard way. Some of us still have the scars...
🤣🤣🤣
Its easily done to be fair 🤣
Well done Saffy, the tools you purchased are a long term investment as no doubt you will use them again with the miles you are doing. You have done more than I ever have dared to, you have learned so much more than you can possibly realise, and now know your bike so much better. You will remember to crack those bloody hard nuts slightly loose before you jack up the bike etc. Good on you for sharing and enjoy the all improved Rocket 👍
+1 for the AWS security tshirt
😏 😏 😏 😏
Yet again a great watch Saffy, everything is a learning curve with biking. Lessons learnt are invaluable for us. You have done amazing in the short time you have been riding. Keep up the good work 👏 😎🏍🤗
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you so much!
You’re absolutely bonkers but fair play to you for giving the mechanics a go. Good for you 👍🏻
Thank you so much ❤️
@@SaffySprocket looking forward to watching the big tour!! Keep up the great work Sprocket!!
Saffy I love these videos, for the most part you make me laugh and I admire you for trying to get all the jobs done yourself.
Great content, editing and honesty when things go pear shape lol
All that and beautiful to.... perfect 👍🤗😎
Glad you like them! :D
Bravo. You are on the right path. Pleasure to watch.
Small world! Bob's is about 25mins north of me, and I pass by it whenever I'm going to the office. If you ever see a tatty looking red ST1300, rider grinning and waving, that'd be me :) Fairly frequently found at the Asda.
Ya, you should have been doing things that you weren't aware of - but - no-one teaches a new rider to check those things! Now you know, and have some tools that you can take on your adventures, so you can deal with things that might happen on the road (and the confidence from doing your own work, means you won't stress as much if things do go wrong on the road!)
Bobs has gotten a lot busier hasn't it! I'm sure the partition wall was new ahahah
You are an inspiration Saffy. Keep up the good work and ride safe. Glad your bike is much improved.
Thank you so much ❤️ 💓
Well done, you’ve learned loads. I changed the stock tyres on my new Multistrada V4S to Dunlop Mutants at the 600 mile service - awesome tyres!
Saffy Sprocket, good to see this has been a positive learning experience/confidence booster for you.
Plzzzz don't let your rear tyre get that bad again though!
A great choice of tyres. 😃👍
I had Dunlop Mutant's on my last bike and they were fantastic.
I'd recommend them and Pirrelli Angel ST's to anyone that asks me.
It'll be good to see you back on the road instead of up to your elbows in oil. 🤣
Glad everything stayed tight and you had a safe ride to the shop for new tires.
Quite the adventure to dive into the unknown and work on you bike Saffy.
Get some rest and don't miss a train from work. Hmmm, what is the big adventure?
Safe to say you got your moneys worth out of that back tire. 😮
I’m surprised the bike would go round a corner. 😂
Good reflection on lessons learned at the end.
Like getting your money's worth 😂😂😂
@@SaffySprocket Rear was somewhat squared off.. Maybe wise to change a little earlier if cornering ability valued. Thanks for vid. 👍
There are always positives to take from any situation, well done Saff..👍
Absolutely
Keep it Saffy, you’re doing great! 👍👍
Great stuff Saffy, it’s always useful to know these different skills. You never know when you might need them on your travels.
I think it will certainly help when I'm on the road
The most adorable video ever.
Hy, im Paulo from Portugal. Im also a rider. I just want you to know that you have my true admiration. Cheers from Coimbra, Portugal.
Thank you so much!
Great work ! Back on the road, you did that .
Thanks 👍
Wow I bet it felt so much better riding bike after those new tyres were fitted ! Happy riding 😀🏍
You did a good job and have learned from your mistakes . I have done similar to you in the past and worse and had to pay for things to be fixed. I hope it has given you the confidence to give it another go with more preparation. Go for it I feel you have what it takes.
Hello saffy now you know what to look for, you will be able to plan your maintenance 🔧 schedule to avoid doing so many jobs at the same ⌚. Oil your chain the day before you do a trip gives it time to settle, less fling. I sense giggles are coming our way. Happy motorbicycleing.
You’re doing a great job, it’s a learning process. You will get there. Good luck 😉👍
Thank you! 😊
great work you be proud of you have achieved
you're doing great. i really hope you keep it up past the learning phase! :-)
Thank you, I will
You were in excellent hands with the guys at Bobs Motorcycles & Tyres 8:04
They're a good bunch
@@SaffySprocket TBH I was expecting you to be at Bobs open day today.
Cute mambo jumbo maintenance! Well done Saff! You rock that❤️
Thank you 🤗
Thanks Saffy 👍
:D
Well done, you can be really proud of yourself and what you achieved on the trip and on the mechanic session 🥂🥂👍👍😊
Yes! Thank you!
This is a learning curve.
We all do it.
Keep doing what you love.
Xx
So true :D and thank you!
Saffy, something that will help reduce the buildup of gunk inside the chain sprocket cover. Take a look at DuPont Chain-Saver with Teflon. Your new chain is sealed with an O ring (X ring). That keeps the lubricant that the factory put inside your chain inside where it belongs. External lubricants are only to protect the outside of the chain and keep the O rings protected so they don't get damaged. The DuPont product dries to a non sticky wax. It's thin and doesn't sling off like many of the other "wet" lubricants. You'll find it keeps things cleaner in the future.
Haven't gone back to check, but I am pretty sure what she was using was a clear wax.
Great video. Much honesty. I'm sooo glad to see that rear tyre getting changed. Looking forward to seeing you on the road again. Gxx.
You and me both! I have itchy feet heh :D
Nice to see your back on the road
It's good to he back!
Whole heartedly agree with your words at the end of the video. I'm no mechanic either but every bit of info you pick up and have a go at gives you a better understanding of what happens and why and an appreciation of what to do. I'm sure with your enthusiasm your knowledge and appreciation will continue to grow, and your videos will encourage others too 👍
Thank you so much :D Glad you enjoyed the video too
Love the videos saffy. Your a brave woman to take on that task. Fair play to you....
Very well done Saffy its great to see your service finished not a easy task for your first attempt but you will have learnt so much and it will give you the confidence to do future services give yourself a pat on the back and be proud of what you have done 👍👍
Thank you so much :D Glad its over though ahaha
Absolutely well done in finding the positives from your experiences. It's all too easy to get downhearted in the moment, but when you reflect you realise tbat you grow with every challenge. Every day's a school day, lol. Onwards and upwards...
Absolutely! and thank you so much :D
It was great that the shop guy was helpful. I learned a lot hanging out at a shop when I was young. They did the work I couldn't but helped me understand the work I could do.
You're in a good place now. You've got new parts and new adventure awaits. And now you won't get caught unaware. I'm looking forward to your next trip
Be safe
Brilliant video saffy your a good example to all new riders. Well done
Thank you so much!
Well done Saffy, really enjoy your vidios, cheers Colin, in Somerset, Tasmania, ( just below australia ) 😄
Well done you did a grand job
Thank you so much :D
There's always a silver lining; sometimes you just have to look for it. Well done!
Don't beat yourself up kid. You did good. We all have to start somewhere. At least you've given it a go. Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration to us all 👍
Your a better person, but that's not related to bike riding, your just a great person full stop, you are however more capable, knowledgeable and experienced with bikes, which to most are an anomaly, inigma and a mysterious beast, so your a better biker, well done in that. Saffy, your amazing putting yourself through these trials and tribulations, well done. Utmost respect. I pulled up at a garage a while ago, and an older (circ60's), women got out of a car and asked me what I was doing? I asked what does she think I'm doing in a petrol station, she then said, oh I didn't know motorcycles take petrol!!!!
She did not ahahahah oh dear ahahaha and thank you so much :D You're too kind!
Excellent, well done. It always seems when watching a professional mechanic work on your bike they're doing jobs in minutes that take you half a day, even after a couple of decades maintaining my own bikes I still get that feeling. There's no better feeling than knowing you've done it yourself though, after a long hot soak in the bath to calm down that is.
Well said!
Well done saffy i love your enthusiasm I have been a rider for over 45 years and i am still in love with biking and all the maintenance that goes with it. Well done again get yourself some reading matter on maintenance it will help you in the future. Look forward to seeing your next video feel proud of what you have achieved. 👍👍👍
Thank you so much ❤️
I'm new to bikes & found this series brilliant. You did great job & I think educated a lot
Thank you so much ❤️ it was quite difficult learning 😅😅😅
Seeing how square you're back tyre was, getting some advanced, or extra, training would be a good investment.
I've been using Bobs for a few years too. He, and his son Scott, are good guys that do a lot for Blood Bikes Wales.
To be fair, I knew my tyres needed changing, it wasn't lack of knowledge, I just kept putting it off!
@@SaffySprocket I was meaning rider training, not maintenance. Looking at how squared off your tyre was, it looks like you're keeping it very upright in the bends. You'd get so much more from your ride, and be safer, from advanced or extra training. 👍
Saffy!! Right on, bike maintenance chronicles..... what a ride. Here's the cool part, I'm a tech myself, and the cool thing is as you aquire some knowledge and experience about your bike, the more you will know to stay ahead of the maintenance game going forward.
Its great when a tech will share tips and help you out, feels good helping too.
Not sure what words were being held in when you were holding your breath in that video last week when you slipped there, but welcome to the club! Lol.
ahahah The level of self control needed for the pain was crazy
You don't know what you don't know & you'll only know if you give it a go.
You did really well for a first go IMO. Just keep practicing, learning, picking up new tools as you need them. Everyone had to ask for help at some point.
Hi Saffy, I think your conclusion summed up your experience pretty well, I do believe from most negatives in ones life you can gain positives, and going forward you do tend to learn from them, for which you definitely have, so I think should be proud of yourself. Wishing you safe and happy biking...
I once heard the phrase that you learn just as much about your abilities as a person from failing as you do from success, if not more. And it's always stuck with me
Well done 👍 new shoes love it 😊
🥰
Well done on doing your own maintenance. With time and tips you'll get better.
Thanks :D
It's good to reflect and you hit the nail on the head, you will be much more confident and enjoy your riding more now.
🥰 thank you so much ❤️
Just discovered your series and I love it! One tip. Buy yourself a small torque wrench. I was cringing watching you t-handle the bolt into the case. Engines are aluminum (US version!) and those bolts only require about 7 ft lbs (84 inch pounds, 9.5 nm) so very easy to over tighten and strip if you torque it down too badly.
I have one now 😂😂😂
Personal growth through adversity. All part of the great journey. Well done. 👍
