I have had two full knee replacements with the Stryker replacement and the Mako robot assisted procedure in 2022. I had beat up my knees with 20 + years of rec league volleyball. Glad to say both knees have done very well. Sticking with the therapy has been my big thing. Not just going in to therapy but doing what you can in between those visits.

I had the MAKO surgery and was very happy with that. I was home the same day! I also used an X10 machine which was a godsend to help in my post-op recovery. This was a good presentation, I felt that pain meds didn't help, used good old Advil, which seemed to help just as well. Good luck to all.

I had robotic 7 weeks ago. Walked out of recovery, Cain or walker 2 days, then walking with little trouble at all. Very happy. 70yo, 230lbs. MUST do therapy and home stretching religiously.

3 years ago, I had a total knee replacement. Been in pain the whole time. Knee will not bend like it should due to tendon get to tight before I get it bent like it should. Found out by another doctor said my leg with new knee is to long. First doctor didn't cut enough bone out. Causes knee problems and hip problems on same side. Going tomorrow 4/7 to see when new doctor can fix it. Wish me luck. Tired of the pain for 3 years in knee and hip.

I had bilateral knee replacement surgery 2 years ago, both knees same time 4month recovery time. Used my pain medication as instructed and had no issues,I would do it again and both knees are Stryker knees. No more pain just a few soft tissue issues in my left knee probably from my therapy other than that they're awesome. 2 surgeons same time very intense but as I said worth it.

I was in hospital 5 days after left knee replacement (I live in Australia). The knee joint was basically down to bone on bone. Because I metabolise drugs quickly I was in agony for months after surgery as the pain wasn't managed at all well. It was 6 months before I could get around easily and even with regular exercise I still have some pain, probably soft tissue, even after 4 years. My left leg is now about 3/4" longer than the right and this puts strain on that leg. The left knee is also now 1 1/2 times the size of my right knee. If I have to do a lot of walking I still use a walking stick. I have to say I'm one of the 15% you talked about. Although there is improvement it could have been better. I'm glad (and a little jealous) so many of you had good outcomes.

A couple of people on this thread have had bad outcomes, but at some point you have no choice. You NEED the operation.
I had total knee replacement about 8 months ago, and thankfully it went well. I can walk normally, squat way below parallel, surf and play tennis - although I try not to run too much. The muscle and strength is the same as my good leg. The first 2 months or more were hell. Pain was terrible and the rehab hurts, but it gets better day by day, week by week. I'm lucky that I've got a complete home gym for rehab, and I've worked hard to get back to as normal as possible. Does it feel like my right leg? No, and it never will. But it feels good enough that I don't feel lessened or disabled now. This surgery has risks, but as I said before - at some point you really have no choice. BTW, I'm 60 years old. Good luck to everyone that has this surgery, and the outcome may be dependent to some extent on how willing you are to work hard on the rehab!

My wife had a parcel knee replacement and 3 months after surgery a 1/2 inch piece of cement broke off that the doctor didn't clean off. It got between the cartilage and she ruined all the cartilage on the good side. She has a second surgery to remove the cement and her knee is a mess. She now needs a full knee replacement. This sucks! Because the doctor didn't do his job and make sure and clean up it's now going to bankrupt us. And probably cost him more than he can ever think. Lawyers won't help so god will just have to have mercy on his ass I guess.

Do you ever take charity cases? My sister had a bad surgery 5 years ago. It has left her with her knee cap on the to of her thigh. Her leg is atrophied. Muscle is torn away from a bone. I'm not a doctor. She has been told she has no hope of ever walking normal ever again.

I’m so wishing I’d not had it done. I had MAKO on 12/06/2021 went home on 7th with nerve block. I took a nap, woke up to go to restroom and I just slid onto the floor was there 8 hours. So was sent to rehabilitation hospital for 2 weeks and was either in wheelchair or bed. Not allowed to walk. All PT 3 hours in am, 1 hour in afternoon & was done from wheelchair. I’m allergic to NSAIDs and codeine. I’m 13 weeks out tomorrow and not walking on my own. Leg is so swollen, red and blistering and rash in places. I’ve never been so miserable in my life. Not sure if this is normal or not.

I hope you have had your surgeon check that leg. Redness, swelling and rash could be signs of infection or rejection God forbid.
I had my knee redone on 11/22/21. I went home the same day. I took pain medicine the first day home because I was told to stay ahead of the pain. On the second day I realized that I had no pain other than a sore thigh muscle from the tourniquet. I never took pain medicine after day one and never had any pain. I iced my knee constantly.
My first knee replacement broke after just about 2 years. On the first one I drove myself to the dr. four days after surgery.
I realize that I am the exception, not the rule. Get that knew checked out asap.
      Good luck.
