I completely fell in love with the album Caligula so I was really happy to hear the demo versions. Still, I was not prepared for this longer version of Sorrow... It's so intimate, so heartbreaking, I can't stop listening to it, even if sometimes it really brings me down. So I agree and dare to say it's my favorite song of all time.
This is not about her own sorrow. Her voice is the voice of pain, sorrow and loneliness of the world we have constructed. Our loneliness in this world is an echo of god’s loneliness enduring way too much worship, way too much killing in his or her name. Our loneliness seems not human-scaled, it seems divinely scaled. "...their faith that all life sprang from salt in tears which the sky god wept after he dreamt his solitude was endless." From the Republic of Conscience Seamus Heaney
God alone knows my sorrow, sorrow, sorrow God alone knows my sorrow, sorrow, sorrow God alone knows my sorrow, sorrow, sorrow God alone knows my sorrow, sorrow, sorrow God alone knows my sorrow And only He can judge Today I fear nothing For heaven is my consolation Burn my body That I may not return Disperse me to the air That I may not be defiled by any other earthly thing Today I rejoice Today I rejoice For mine is the kingdom And mine is the silence And mine is the cool and quiet Darkness all around And all that pains me will be lifted And all that haunts me will be eased For God alone knows my sorrow And He will shelter me God alone, God alone God alone, God alone God alone God alone, God alone Alone Alone Alone Alone Alone Alone Alone Alone
This is, without exaggeration, the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard.

God alone knows my sorrow, sorrow, sorrow
God alone knows my sorrow, sorrow, sorrow
God alone knows my sorrow, sorrow, sorrow
God alone knows my sorrow, sorrow, sorrow
God alone knows my sorrow
And only He can judge
Today I fear nothing
For heaven is my consolation
Burn my body
That I may not return
Disperse me to the air
That I may not be defiled by any other earthly thing
Today I rejoice
Today I rejoice
For mine is the kingdom
And mine is the silence
And mine is the cool and quiet
Darkness all around
And all that pains me will be lifted
And all that haunts me will be eased
For God alone knows my sorrow
And He will shelter me
God alone, God alone
God alone, God alone
God alone
God alone, God alone
Alone
Alone
Alone
Alone
Alone
Alone
