I did basically the same thing 10 years ago with only an 7" Android tablet. It had built-in GPS and I had a candy bar phone. There was no need for Android Auto. It was more than good enough for cross country trips. Now that I have a smartphone and I'm experienced using Google maps I rarely look at a map display, so I ditched the tablet. My phone's headphone output is excellent - with a good quality cable(hint). It's a lot easier to mount and dismount than the larger display was and the natural ease of removal makes it less of a theft magnet. I may be in the minority, but I think that large screens in cars are a fad that provides no actual improvement in utility while increasing distracted driving and lowering the reliability of vehicles.
Here there are laws for distracted driving. Having your phone in your pocket until the officer comea to the car will save you a lot in fines and increased insurance
I have tested and installed many android car stereos and most of them sound the same if not better than the one built into the car i installed it on plus. the screen on that device looks so small you might as well just use your phone on a mount makes no sense at that point. looks like the screen on you phone looks the same size maybe even bigger than this cheap think. This is a hard pass.
My phone isn't as big. But the real problem is android phones don't do carplay alone anymore. You need a screen to do it. The hands free of carplay mode is far better than the phone itself.
@GearsAndTech I just use a car launcher like autozen they are a few apps that make it easier to navigate your android phone while in a vehicle. That cheap device just looks like clutter to me my personal opinion I'm sure it might be handy for some.i rather just mount my phone or use and android head unit the sound on 2 of mine are much better than the factory radio

I have the 6.86 inch wide folding model, it's been great. But am looking to upgrade to the new 10.3 inch wide.
Yeah, I may go for a bigger one too
So you won't get a phone mount, but you do get a tablet with a suction mount. LOL
Yes exactly
