Dakar 2 is still better gameplay wise, at least compared to last Dakar game
There's definitely a bit of Motorstorm vibes here, especially at multi-class races and the ability to wreck bikes and small cars with the trucks!
This is EXACTLY what I've been thinking every time I look at stuff about this game, its a huge reason why I wanna get it. I need a game that gives me Motorstorm vibes and this is it, half of my time watching this video I had Motorstorm soundtracks going off in my head.
I miss that series. There's no better time than for Sony to revive that with modern hardware that's available right now.

The only problem is you're not actually racing against other classes, they're just there to pass. But that's Dakar i guess lol

I would love to see a "classic Paris-Dakar" game one day, where you start in Paris and race all the way to Dakar.
Exactly and this game is probably the best platform for it. they do have some DLC planned down the road including a map apparently. Here's hoping I get to take that 405 T16 to Jacky Ickx G-wagon somewhere in Africa.
Someone write the DEVS and drop the idea... They just might do it... Add some European maps too... THAT WOULD BE THE SHIZZZZNIT!
9:30 I did hit a Helicopter in NFS: Most Wanted 2005 on purpose. But it was rather disappointing. It had a presumably cube hitbox just repelling the car without damage.
In an earlier video they talked about arcade mode not being an easy mode but a new game mode for those that like arcade racers. Which is why you start in a pack and have waypoints etc.
Seeing the price double during the pre-order window put this out of my shortlist to check for this month, PC reviews are listing few issues at the moment. This is totally my jam though so will keep an eye out on updates to the PC version.

I was not aware of this game. Looks amazing. I love that flexibility in navigating the track and choosing a vehicle.
I played this on gamecube growing up, I remember it having a cool atmosphere to it. Good to see it back

The AI reviews are great and hilarious but your real reviews honestly can’t be beat. They are to me the most thorough and overall most excellent reviews on RUclips. When I really wanna know about a game I come to ACG and I recommend others consider doing the same! This game does look kinda fun. May check it out
Wait some time if you are going to pc, reviews on steam tell the game is broken, the bugs are overwhelming.

@@Alfonso88279 I play mostly on PS5 and series X. I also have a Switch and just got a steam deck. No PC proper though. The deck is as close as I am to pc gaming

@Jullia kosic Karak has released a couple of reviews where an AI created the script, then Karak reads that out. Just yesterday there was one for Spider-Man and it's hilarious. Check it out if you want a good laugh.
Cool! Looks like it could be kind of a fast snowrunner vibe, at least for plotting course and such. I could see it being a zen like game dispute speed. Thanks
I remember playing the original as a kid in the early 2000’s. It was amazing and brutal for an arcade rally game. I haven’t touched the franchise until a couple of years back with Dakar 18, but I only played it for a few hours and missed how it originally functioned. No doubt, this version is definitely on my radar and I will give it a try in the near future, thanks ACG!

Wow. What a nice review. I guess I'm gonna buy now. I do high speed off road as a sport in real life and I've been waiting for a good off roading game and this might just do it as long as they stay committed to their roadmap. I've heard a few gripes about the physics and it not FEELING like real vehicles do in sand, but I'm hoping they'll fix that. I really enjoyed Sabre's Mud and Snowrunner games so I imagine I'll enjoy this one too. The support they gave Snowrunner after it was released gives me confidence that this will shape into an amazing off road (in the house) experience.
I've been very tempted to pick up a physical of this.
This checkpoint markers give me distinct PS2 vibes.

05:15 - Some of the crashes here remind me of the original Motorstorm on the PS3.
3:11 that's kinda hilarious because in the early to mid 80's some Paris-Dakar stages would actually do mass starts, mainly in the expansive wide open dune stages where space is less of a concern.
Still, they stopped doing that because.....yeah it was a dangerous clusterfuck.
These ARE the best videogame reviews on review, the mix of detailed information and funny jokes added in the middle of the review makes 15m feel like 15s. Thank you so much for another incredible review!

Thanks for the review. Is there any chance you could drop a line or two on whether there are any differences in appearance between the console generations apart from higher fps? If you have multiple platforms to choose from sometimes its a meaningful difference.

I had this game on my radar and I'm glad it turned out pretty good.
Also how difficult is the easiest difficulty, I don’t have great reflexes, so I’m curious if I’m not great at racing games is this still worth trying?
When you talk about audio could you maybe give us examples we can hear. The only audio we got was 10 seconds at the end, which sounded very nice.
I thought that was kind of odd, he usually does. I'm wondering if maybe the game has licensed audio that he wasn't able to get to play nice with YT.

one of the worst games i've ever played . Action 52 is so much better and actually works with a controller. i made the mistake of picking this up for free from epic games and wasted an hour trying to get it to work. manual transmission will not work on controller and neither does selecting menu items. what a waste of _70GB_ too bad. i wouldn't play this if they paid me. $0 / FREE is too expensive for this game!

Ah yes the team that took Mudrunner, remade it and made wheel/shifter/pedal compatibility worse. In a driving game....
Great review, Karak. It's quite positive, although I've also seen IGN's review saying the driving model is kinda wonky, especially for ATV's that seem undriveable, and bikes being a bit better but not much, with heavier trucks being the most enjoyable. I was looking forward to this game, so maybe I'll grab it on a console after some updates and/or discounts.

It seems to me that the sensitivity is a bit high when turning and needs to be toned down a bit not sure if this is due to lower classed cars or what.
It looks promising. Tires wearing and or blowing out. Engine problems, suspension giving out etc. Are all things that routinely happen in Dakar so i expect the same to be in game.
What is up with the wheel support for Thrustmaster T300? It sucks man, it doesn't work right (PS5)
Did the back end of the quad bikes seem super loose? Seemed like you had the most crashes on them
First thing that came to mind, just looking at thumbnail: Motorstorm…
The crowd in Bloodsport was actually chanting “koomatay”.
The couple bits I'd teally be interested in is, how realistic is the physics model of the tire in the various terrain types? Do you notice hitting large grooves in the sand from other tracks while using the bike for instance? How about transitioning from dirt onto snow? That would be a major factor in me liking the game, if the physics feel believable. I also have a racing wheel and peddles (and VR headset) collecting dust. Would be nice if any of those would aid in the fun factor here.

I'm not a Dakar race fan, but this game looks great. I played the older version and even found it fun, despite the issues it had (got it on sale on PS Store for like $3). This will be a grab for me for sure.
The most "close up" resemblance to Motor Storm on PS3 :)
Do you know if, at some point, there will be an offline free roam option in the game? I was so disappointed to find out that the only option it gives you to freely drive throughout the desert is online.

This game gives me huge Motorstorm vibes and I wanna get it for that alone, it looks great. Here's hoping it doesn't get a battle pass though, and if so, not a time gated one.

I have one question. Does this feel like Motorstorm?
I thought snow in the Sahara just does not happen, but apparently it does. Its very rare, but sometimes occurs and last happened this year (January).
in the Sahara it's sometimes a thing in the Atlas mountains. the game takes place in the Arabian desert though, so the mountains (and snow) is the Sarawat range, which runs from the Saudi Arabian border with Jordan, south down the west coast of Saudi Arabia, then into Yemen

I would like to add that the ATV physics certainly needs some tweaks. Also I swear the co drivers pace notes seem off at times. Otherwise I'm enjoying the game. I was on the fence with this game but I figured if karak enjoys it so would I. Thanks ACG 👍

Ik I'm late but I am thinking of trying this game out, never been a huge fan of rally racing games but am a fan of open world racing tho, guess I'll give it a chance

Finally a good Dakar game? Count me in! I hope they add some classic cars like the Porsche 959 and the DAF Turbo Twin.
I believe the DAF turbo is in the game now in the 80's pack (first DLC) and the Porsche is coming in future DLC. :)
On PS5 my game crashed to desktop and deleted the corrupted save data five times on the first real mission. It’s ridiculously unstable and I really hope it gets a day one patch.

I'm not really a fan of racing games but damn does this game look good. Hopefully it comes to GamePass because I definitely want to take it for a run or two.
Serious problem!!! Has anyone had this issue? When I apply the brakes while racing it's like my steering locks up and I can't turn left or right... it just slides straight forward some reason. I love this game but if I can't figure this out I'll have to stop playing. Any help is appreciated! And yes it's only with the brake/reverse button... not the handbrake. Thanks!

thanks for the review. In a game that screams for a huge open world I missed the information how open the world is or how big those different regions actually are.
Else just looking at all the footage I'm wondering if it's just me but I get the impression that the geometry is so simple and flat that all vehicles just smoothly float over the ground like Marty McFly on his hover board. isn't that supposed to be wild rocky terrain where every rock and stick should shake the different vehicles to the core and try to push it of it's course? this looks like everything is on rails, most bushes and stuff is just no clip except for a few well placed rocks that are intentional obstacles. this really bothers me and gives me that feeling of a very blunt arcade game for 6-10 year olds that just wanna see cars crashing one afternoon.
