  • On this episode of Homegrown Mark Peterson and his Father Earl are hunting their family river property for Woodcock. Mark has been hunting this area since he was a little boy, and Mark's father Earl has hunted this property for over 40 years. With the more work the family puts into it, the property continues to get better and better every year. Homegrown with Mark Peterson tells the story of what developed the passion for hunting that Mark holds today, that is hunting West Michigan for whitetail deer, turkey, Grouse, woodcock and much more. For a slow flying bird the woodcock is sure a hard one to hit.

Northern MI woodcock hunting has been one of my passions for the past 10 years but unfortunately my Brittany Bella (a true rock star on doodles) retired last year due to health problems. This brought back some great memories of our countless times in the woods together-thank you!
Also great to see you and your dad doing this together, and kudos on your private land conservation efforts!

Thanks for sharing. I am glad it brought back memories. I love conservation and love hunting with my dad and family even more.

Really great to see you hunting with your dad. Thick cover. Small window to shoot

Excellent hunt and filming, just like I was there. Oh, our flight birds are GENERALLY smaller too.

Mark, what bell are you using on your dogs? I like the sound of them.

I'm not sure what type of ammo you're using on your own property. But I would use my Browning citori o/u.in 20 gauge. It's short and swingable in those trees. One shot is all you should need. A nice snap shot like you did on your "oh shit, I hit it ",shot.

Yeah I have a few 20’s that I do like to use for this. A 28 would be great too!

I bet that's cool to hunt with your dad and say remember that time we hunted Ptarmigan in Alaska or remember hunting grouse in Canada super cool mark!

Great vid, it's so hard to capture a good partridge or woodcock hunt cleanly, this was a nice watch.

Hey we have 'bigger birds' just north of you in canada! I'm a little confused about the whole size of the flight birds cause they allll go south. Either way, nice hunting!

Local birds aren't bigger than flight birds....where did you pull that BS from?
