This is fantastic! Love all the positive energy of your videos Amy and your guests are always so friendly and humorous ❤️❤️ So happy to hear you are going back to China soon and looking forward to more amazing content in the future 😊🥰
Marmite tastes much better than Vegemite, and I am Kiwi of course! Over in New Zealand we smear Marmite on top of buttered toast, and top it with a layer of avocado, and a sprinkle of black pepper. Yummm !!!
OMG your video makes me want to visit Australia again! I've stayed in Adelaide for almost 5 years and had a great time there. Hopefully the border is going to open soon.
Surprisingly, vegemite (or marmite) is quite popular in Malaysia. I'm from Malaysia and this is literally in most people's memories. We would use this in congee, just act like a sauce, salty like soy sauce but umami and savoury like some kind of sauce.
@@timetraveller3076 Not vegemite. Never. That thing tastes like TCM herb soup. Bitter. Not umami. Yuck! And we rice eaters don't need that much B-vitamin supplement. Vegemite was invented as a vitamin supplement and a paste 2-in-1 I believe.

I wish I can meet you too Amy!!! Introduced to my dad too, He is from China, and over 70 years old, and he loves your channel. Really Hope I can meet you when you are in Sydney.

AS I GOT OLDER I TEND TO PUT IT IN SOME DISHES AS AN UMAMI FLAVOR YOU SHOULD TRY THAT SOMETIME. ITS VERY GOOD
Vietnam is a paradise for food lovers all over the world because of its unique and diverse cuisine. Vietnamese street food is superb which you must try when visiting Vietnam. One of those tasty street food is Bun Dau Mam Tom - Noodle and Tofu with Shrimp Sauce. Enjoy Bun Dau Mam Tom to experience the special taste of Vietnamese cuisine.
Love the video, so much fun. You’d get to Harry's Cafe de Wheels for pies. Actually I have never had chicken parma, will definitely try next time with beer! Thanks!
you can also add white vinegar to the chips - it is acquired taste but I like it. Amy's dad should try the pie from the baker 2 doors next to where he ate his pie - made on site and very nice.
I tried roo steak, pizza (from a famous Melbourne pizzeria that my brother told me), meat pies and the fish and chips when I visited 2 years ago. Haven't tried avocado toast. Will be in my next trip. Love all the delicious food there!
Wow, Bondi Beach in Australia looks amazing. I only had been to Brisbane in a summer vacation before going to high school, and the weather was freezing (because I mostly travel in late July to early August). Besides the city, zoo, koalas, fireflies, boat ride to see the dolphins or whales and Warner Bros amusement park were fantastic, the Gold Coast was one of the best beaches in Australia.
I've been to that fish and chip shop at Bondi, they're great. I didn't notice that they did the fried Mars bar, it would have been interesting to try. 🙂
When I first ate Vegemite in Australia, It was in a hotel for the breakfast. I thought it was something like chocolate. Therefore I put a lot of it on my toast cause I love sweet food. Then I took a big bite. And then, I was thinking what the hell of this. But I was with an Aussie friend, I want to show my respect for Australian food culture. So I said I like it. My Aussie friend said that he never saw any foreigner like Vegemite in his life. Now, I still eat vegemite sometimes cause I heard that it is full of nutrition.
Yes, Australian meat pies are delicious🤤, retired Aussie tennis superstar Patrick Rafter opened a shop called Garlo's in Los Angeles, USA dedicated to Aussie meat pies that I thought was delicious, but it is now closed. Perhaps it is a little too similar to American pot pies, which were first introduced on a large distribution scale (choice of beef, chicken, or turkey) in America back in the 1950s, as a frozen TV dinner by Swanson. Then Marie Callender took over the American frozen pot pie business around the 1990s with slightly upscale versions (slightly healthier ingredients) of Swanson pot pies. Now Kentucky Fried Chicken in America makes a pretty good chicken version of this flaky pie, with veggies and a sauce. But I think the Aussie version is even better...Vegemite, on the other hand I was really wanting to try because there was a song sung by the Aussie band Men at Work that mentioned Vegemite sandwiches (1982?83?), so I was really excited to try it when I visited Sydney in 2000, but was somewhat letdown. Ahh well, I figured it must be healthy in some secret ways, anyways. Thanks for the videos, I had no idea the Asian food scene has expanded so much in Australia. (We don't have some of the stuff you showed in your videos here in Los Angeles. Chuan chuan, various yum cha items, some of the noodle soups, etc...
Salt & pepper squid and eggplant parm are quintessential pub foods in Australia, as weird as that sounds. Combining three of the largest immigrant groups of Australia: British/Irish, Mediterranean. (Italian/Greek) and Asian (Chinese/Malaysian).
Watching Amy's video make me feel the relationship between China and Australia is not so tense, but after I finish watching and open the global news on youtube and baidu, the reality hits me hard...
The deep fried Mars bar reminds me of deep fried Oreo. It’s one of the first things introduced to me when I just arrive in US. It sounds weird but good!
All those foods come from other parts of the world, not just Australia. Chicken parmesan I think comes from Russia, fish and chips come from England and the deep fried mars bar comes from Scotland. You need to try a saveloy dip, that is some meal!.
Ooooh! Yes, in the U.S. we call it "apple pie a la mode" (the term comes from French). Usually, the pie is warm (but some people are fine with it cold), and then you top it with the cold ice cream. Some restaurants will drizzle caramel sauce over it, too. Now I'm curious what the apple pies in Oz/Aus(tralia) taste like compared to the ones you get in the U.S.!!! You got me craving some homemade apple pie now. :-)
I wish Blondie can come to Malaysia and try our Malaysian dishes which consist of Malay, Chinese and Indian origin. You will have varieties of delicious foods from different ethnic groups.
I love vegemite!! Vegemite with Arnotts sao's is my childhood fave. Also did you know Vegemite and smashed avo on toast is bomb? XD I actually didn't know that combo until my friend took me to a cafe that had it. OMG i eat meat pie the same way your dad does LOL XD
My Aussie friend let me try it many years ago. It tasted fine to me instead of bit salty. A healthy paste actually. I am living in Macau. Welcome to visit again since you come back to China next month. Contact me if you do so.
For Chengdu tips check out Trevor James’ complete food guide. I have shown the list to many locals and they were impressed with the recommendations. All very local and not particularly hyped.
Another great RUclips source for Chengdu food content is Itchy Feet on the Cheap. His China videos are roughly from 2017-2020. He moved to Ecuador and I believe is heading back to SE Asia soon. I'd say I've learned more from Ryan (Itchy Feet) than Trevor James. Trevor is all about energy. Ryan really does some research and goes more in depth about different foods.
I don't feel very Australian.... I don't eat avocado on toast (ps. that's a very female thing to eat)... I don't eat vegemite regularly... I rarely eat fish and chips... and I've never had a deep fried mars bar before..... but i LOVE BEER!!
You went all gourmet this time hahahaha! Some how I feel the crappy pies and parmas are probably more Australian? Those plastic wrappings of the frozen pies are part of the experience hahaha
I miss some of the aussie foods. Been there for a few years. Do one more vid . I miss Charcoal Chicken. But, I got to say, Vegemite never grow on me. It's such an acquired taste.
I feel bad that avo toast is so expensive in Australia. Almost every home i have lived in in my life in South Florida has had an avocado tree in the back yard.
Avocado toast isn’t just an Australia thing. It’s an US thing a while ago too. I don’t even get the hype on it but it could be the case that I don’t really like avocado.
Amy when are coming to the US? You know once an Aussie came to US and jaywalked, An American driver yelled at him ‘Do you come here to die?’ and the Aussie said 'No, I came yesterday'🤣🤣🤣
Immigrants don't just drop the cuisine they grew up eating just because they moved to a different country. People generally like to eat what they ate growing up, and the food they saw their parents making typically feel more accessible to them when it comes to cooking for themselves. Like, as a 1.5 generation Chinese-American, I'm perfectly fine eating non-Chinese foods when eating out, but when cooking for myself, it just feels so much easier to default to what we grew up seeing our parents make. Plus, a lot of American foods to me just don't feel like they belong in an everyday home-cooked meal, because I've never seen anyone making them other than in a restaurant.
So essentially - Australian food is basically a hash of American and English food? Are there anything distinctively and quintessential Australian? I have never been to Australia so i was imagining something to the sort of crocodile pie, ostrich omelette, kangaroo steak/burger/pie and fried snake fritters?
As a Chinese-Australian, I must say....these dishes/snacks are probably some of the most iconic and local food choices out there and good on ya mate!

Bunnings sausage deserve a place on the list.
