How can I THANK YOU. My husband and I are just returning to church. We have been listening to your lessons. This lesson has had such an effect on me personally. My testimony is strengthened. PLEASE - Don’t ever remove these lessons from You Tube. I need them so badly. I need to keep listening to them over and over as I go through my life. I’m so thankful for the two of you. That you care enough to touch so many lives. Thank you. From the very core of my soul. Thank you.
Sometimes the sword turns into an angel? I agree 50 years ago my husband-a young Marine-was hit by a missile. Schrapnel peppered mostly his upper body. Both of his eyes were removed, both jaws were broken (part of the upper jaw and a few teeth removed), broken facial bones, left temporal skull fracture, broken hands (part of one hand amputated) left ear drum destroyed by the report of the blast, etc. He underwent multiple surgeries. He lived in darkness for 50 years. He frequently dealt with pain . Despite all this he never complained. I once asked him how he could stand living in darkness. He paused and said, “When I’m feeling frustrated, I remind myself that it’s only temporary.” After years of recovery and therapy to learn how to remember things, he graduated from college and got a job. 8 years ago his injuries began taking their toll on his health. He suffered greatly for years. The last year of his life was especially difficult. Still, no bitterness, no complaining. He endured to the end and he did it well. He passed away 7 months ago. And the angels have attended our family. Yes. Sometimes He turns the sword into an angel.
I'm sorry that that was his life, rather. Bless his soul for his sacrifice. It had to be hard, but I love that you only talk about the blessings. That's what I meant to say.
I can go on and on about this one, thank you again. Personal experiences with revelation, personal trials living with swords while hoping for angels and miracles. The Sword and the Angel was really inspirational for me. I've thought a lot about my birth dad, who died long before I could meet him. While I lived in Seattle, I started writing letters to him, just as a personal exercise. In the first one, I decided to challenge John Lennon, so I imagined a heaven (since his song Imagine tells us to imagine there is none). It was pretty easy for me to picture - him and my grandma meeting and being besties. He was not religious; in fact, he had a really difficult life, as I understand it from my birth mom's stories. I recently came back to the church, and have since been inspired to take his name to the temple when I'm worthy. A fun kicker, why I'm telling this story at all, is because his name was Uwe (oo-vuh), which in Old High German means, "sword." I want to turn that sword into an angel.
You guys will be blessed for all your work to give this to us each week. My wife and I watch you every Sunday after the block. As a Gospel Doctrine teacher I get a lot of good ideas for my lessons (and I do give you guys credit). I really appreciate that you have added the dates for the lesson in the title. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Just quoting a part I love: "And does God have the ability to make it a lot more crystal clear? Absolutely. But I think on purpose He leaves it a little bit messy and a little bit fuzzy because of who we become in the process. It _demands_ out of us more trust, and more thinking, and more wondering, and what happens to us is so exalting in the process that He leaves it that way." at 32:58
Thank you for making these videos for me and my family and helping us get closer to God and Jesus Christ and helping us understand the scriptures and never stop, stay safe❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love each and every lesson you share with us, and I'm all in favor of more LONGER lessons! There is so much to cover and I love your insights in everything. Thank you for the time and effort you expend for these lessons!
27:12 David laughing because Emily mentions "making wind". It is very nice of him to not mention that fart joke. Truly love their videos they are a great help with context.
I can't believe some give the thumbs down for your lesson. Can only hope they are feeling better now . I as usual love you two teaching and giving thoughts re discussion angles. Thank you.
When you referenced the three ways the Brother of Jared received revelation that spoke to me so much. Thank you for helping me make connections on how I receive revelation. I similarly can receive personal revelation, but can’t expect it all to just come to me easily. I will likely never see a vision. I may occasionally feel the Lord speaking directly to me. I will probably have to often work out the details on my own and ask for confirmation from the Lord. And other times I may have to just have faith and move in the direction I need to go and trust that the Lord will guide me to where I need to be. I love it! Thanks so much for your weekly information!
Love you guys! Can I request you guys to look into doing a podcast (just reusing the audio from the same video you already have? I think you'd be able to reach more people that way. Also easier to download and take on the go. Either way, keep things up!
I was thinking that too. I like to listen but when I am walking around it closes the youtube screen and I have to start the video over. We love what you have to say...but this format would be a bit easier.
I had a little soul echo with this lesson! Friday I was having a conversation about the issue I’m having with faith about knowing that He can and will provide for us (manna from Heaven, safety, get out of jail, avoiding danger) but sometimes you starve, you get sick, you get the sword and it’s been hard for me to pray and have faith in His possible actions when He’s just going to do His will. But we figured my faith needs to be in Him, not in what He does. His heart. His purposes. And maybe that means we aren’t protected from the car crash, but we know and can have confidence and faith that everything is working together for our good and for the good of those around us. His ways are higher than our ways.
I am touched by the last comment by ensign. Wow. I don't think I need to say anything more except for may God bless you with bounteous blessings all the rest of your days!
The story of James and Peter this week really hit home for me. In 2016 my husband was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer. In March of 2017 his older sister was diagnosed with Colon Cancer. At the time it was Stage III but later on she was upgraded IV. They both did the same treatment. In April of 2017 they both went down to a cancer clinic in Mexico, they both had surgery in July of 2017. In March of 2018 my husband had a brain bleed and we found out that the cancer had spread to his brain. He had radiation and stared chemo. His sister also started chemo. In March of 2019 we found out my husband’s liver was failing. He passed away on April 19, 2019. His sister right now is cancer free. As I was listen to this I realized that my husband is James and his sister is Peter. We prayed and fasted for them both but in the end only one of them made it.
Thank you for this lesson! I loved every minute of it - and it wasn’t too long. 😉 I am so grateful for the two of you. My two favorite Sabbath Day things now are taking the sacrament and my “Don’t Miss This” study time! Thank you for helping me make my Sabbath Days a celebration and a joy. 💕
I love this. I have been reading the saints and been learning a lot about Joseph Smith bringing about the restoration and this lesson is the same for him. That he didn't know what he was doing, but he kept trying and sometimes he would do the wrong thing but then be corrected and move forward.
We are empty nesters now and have always loved the newsletter study tips but my husband just got called to teach Sunday School to the youth and he is finding the Study Tips for Teens so helpful to spark discussions in class!!! Thank you for all you do to make the scriptures come alive for us!
Consider that the 'push back' that Peter does and that we often do is part of our process of understanding. Anything we learn has to be grounded somehow with the things we already know. The process Peter experiences is one we need to become extremely familiar with because in the next life our understanding will be taken to a whole new level when the rules of the Earth no longer apply. I stop and interrupt often. It can seem rude but it is truly being engaged, truly learning and seeking to understand. Also, not sure why 'the sword' is seen as a negative thing. I see rewards exactly on the reverse. Graduating from Earth School is always the grand reward.
I love the way you’re serving through these videos! I’ve felt impressed to use the videos as a review of the weekly study that my daughters and I have together. The worksheet is perfect to print and have during the week as we go through the chapters. Hearing you teach helps clarify and bring together the ideas and comments we’ve shared as a family and Sunday’s the perfect day to play your video and tie it all together. Thank you so much for what you do! 😍
Have I told you lately that I love you guys.💕💕💕💕💕💕. I love your study sheets. I am compiling a folder of master copies for further study and activities with my family. They will never be out of date!
Seriously, THANK YOU! I love love love your "Come Follow Me" videos. I teach SS and these are such a great help to me! Thanks for the time you take to make these. Don't stop!
What an excellent video. Love your teaching style and the lessons and things you glean. This will make this week’s lessons so much better and deeper. Thanks. Longer is great!
Just want to add another THANK YOU! I took LOTS of notes! You have amazing insights and help me "read" the scriptures better! I've never noticed the part in Acts verse 7 where the angel needed to use a little force to wake Peter up when he didn't wake up from the "spotlight". :) Sometimes I feel like i need to be "hit upside the head" before I catch anything!
FYI my boys and I beg to differ with you Emily, the Brother of Jared can make wind, we where cracking up when David was laughing, my wife and Daughters just rolled their eyes Must be a guy thing
Not elder Uchtdorf! 😂 how sad. I couldn’t stop laughing when Emily told you not to pick a specific one. Love all your episodes. I’ve been a convert for almost 6 years now and honestly have a hard time understanding everything, but y’all make it so much easier for me! So thank you for that.
What can I say but Thank You!!! I'm hooked on your videos, the lessons, the insight. I love David's comment about feeling like the smartest one in Sunday School LOL SO TRUE;) this smile with a wink is for Emily! You two make a great team. After each video I'm always so uplifted, inspired, and think "Oh that one was the best" until your next video. I love the study sheets, I color, doodle and make notes while watching your videos, I often impressed with thoughts during this process. I have told my daughters about your You Tube videos. And we are so looking forward to meeting you In Person, hopefully at the JUBILEE event in Aug. Until then May God bless you both in all you do.
Thank you so much for all the time and work you put into this. It was a total game changer in my calling as a youth Sunday school teacher. Aaaaaand then they went and released me and called me into the RS presidency. My husband is still a teacher and gets to teach this lesson and I’m so jealous, such awesome material!! You guys are changing lives, thank you thank you thank you.
Watching this in January! (Catching up on a few weeks that I missed from 2019). And I can't help but think of Frozen 2. "The Next Right Thing". It's Peter's theme song! Moving forward even when we don't know the exactly what will happen.
I love you both so much! Thank you for your efforts. I have been trying to get the newsletter and found it in the trash. I am so glad I found it and now wonder why and who directed it there! Keep up your wonderful work.
I have a different thought on the "smite" by the angel getting Peter to stand up. I don't think he hit him to wake him up. I wonder about the translation, b/c I've noticed other Bible translations of priesthood actions, like clapping hands on people, and it's kind of a clumsy translation (I wish I could remember exact references, you two could, you are better scriptorians than I). But in this story, what I'm thinking is, the angel came with the power of God, carrying the power of the priesthood, on assignment from the Lord to free Peter, and whatever he did with his hands was to fulfill his assignment from God. So, it seems fitting to consider that the angel, on assignment from heaven's throne, was using God's priesthood power to fulfill his assignment. However it was that the angel touched Peter, the result was that Peter - in chains - was empowered to stand and the chains fell. No other power than God's can do this. Though the translation may be clumsy, it's a witness and record of God's power in action, through priesthood authority. To me it also seems symbolic of the Savior raising us from bondage through whom he sends, when we follow their instructions. Also, it doesn't ever say Peter slept through the light, he may have been closing his eyes, though, lol - scriptural accounts say that heavenly beings are bright. No wonder Peter was maybe dazed? Or didn't put it all together at once. It would be fun to compare this with other scripture accounts of heavenly beings appearing - it often seems that people don't know what to do in the face of such power, and the heavenly person then gives a command for some type of action, or asks a question. We don't know how we might react if we got lucky enuf to have such an experience, but Peter's response seems similar to others. It certainly seems that God's priesthood power was upon Peter, for him to stand free of chains and leave the prison. How cool to have an angel as your escort. Pretty epic escape!!! Not unlike what help we may sometimes have here in our deepest struggles, but don't/can't see. Won't it be fun to re-watch our lives someday up in heaven with ... idk 3-D glasses? haha - with that third dimension being a concurrent view into the other side of the veil - some type of spiritual lens that shows us what was happening on both sides in our behalf. Sometimes we get a glimpse, or sense of that. In this story, we got the full account. So magnificent!
Just found as I kept reading, Acts 13:3 "And when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away." So there's one Bible reference describing someone with the priesthood using their hands as they fulfill their assignment from the Lord. So when the angel "smote Peter on the side, and raised him up" this may be a clumsy translation trying to describe how the angel exercised priesthood power with his hands. Also, back in Acts 12, this translation uses the same verb end of chapter, to describe what happened to Herod: "and immediately the angel of God SMOTE him [Herod] b/c he gave not God the glory: and he ... gave up the ghost." (Acts 12:23) The writer of this chapter followed the account of James death first with Peter's story of liberation, then Herod's death by the same priesthood power, underscoring that God does have ultimate power to bring renewed life (Peter), or death (Herod)..2 Ne 2:27, "And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself."
When you say Jesus invisible. I actually think it’s like demential. He is in a demotion where he can see us but we can’t see him. And same with the veil. Just a thought
You guys are awesome thank you for the video it really helps paint the picture and understand more of the story! Also what is the link for the outlines I keep trying to find the page but it's not coming up...
Hi Sheryl. I get mine via email but you can also go to the archive page - www.emilybellefreeman.com/newsletter-archive. There are probably other places you can access it but that’s where I go for mine. Hope that’s what you wanted to know. Cheers. From Auckland, New Zealand.
So is church policy revelation from the Lord? Or is policy the figuring of our leaders as best they understand a situation? We believe what the New Teastament teaches to be revealed through his servants at that time. These revealed teachings have been canonized into scripture. So if you're saying or our leaders are saying that policy is continuing revelation then shouldn't what the Lord is revealing to them become new canonized scripture?
The way you explain things are all good, we learned many things. We thank you for it however I have a couple of suggestions. Emily, can you fix your hair in a permanent way so that you don't have to swipe you hair to the side every few minutes. You must have tons of combs and brushes please use them. Swiping on the side is quite annoying, I can't focus to what you too guys are discussing for that what I see all the time. Another thing is, you wrote something on the board please take time to explain them in sequence and please write clearly some need some deciphering like what I do when I review indexing. Other than that you guys are awesome. Just remember these are constructive criticism. You can always do what you want.
Thank you.
This is beautiful. I am so happy for you! Keep it up!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Welcome back, Diane!!! I love hearing that someone has found their way back.
I'm drinking them up, too. Never have the scriptures felt so real.
I hope you are still doing well!❤
Sometimes the sword turns into an angel?
Yes. Sometimes He turns the sword into an angel.
ensign j how beautiful thanks for sharing!
Oh I'm so sorry that that was your life with him. I'm glad that you can see the blessings.
I'm sorry that that was his life, rather. Bless his soul for his sacrifice. It had to be hard, but I love that you only talk about the blessings. That's what I meant to say.
Praying for continued peace for you and your beautiful family.
Thank You so very much for helping us to see things in the scriptures that I cannot see by myself!!!!!!!
Just quoting a part I love:
"And does God have the ability to make it a lot more crystal clear? Absolutely. But I think on purpose He leaves it a little bit messy and a little bit fuzzy because of who we become in the process. It _demands_ out of us more trust, and more thinking, and more wondering, and what happens to us is so exalting in the process that He leaves it that way." at 32:58

Thanks for ALL your TIME and EFFORTS to do these videos and the way you explain these scripture chapters and verses. They HELP so much!
I love each and every lesson you share with us, and I'm all in favor of more LONGER lessons! There is so much to cover and I love your insights in everything. Thank you for the time and effort you expend for these lessons!
ya, the longer thing wasn't an issue AT ALL for me, either! You two are very engaging, say all you wish to say, we LOVE IT!
Thank you.

I agree with this. Make it a podcast too.
I would love that.
I was thinking that too. I like to listen but when I am walking around it closes the youtube screen and I have to start the video over. We love what you have to say...but this format would be a bit easier.
I fifth this! Podcast PLEASE! 🙏🏻
Yes, both!
I love the scriptures and the Come Follow Me manual. Your weekly 'lessons' bring it all to life for me. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Thank you for these lessons. I’ve never enjoyed and understood scriptures as much as this.

P.S. As an Alabama native, I love that David frequently uses the contraction 'y'all'. ;-)
I love all of your lessons but this one was certainly my favorite one yet. Thank you for sharing your hearts with us!
So powerful!! Thank you!!
I love the way you’re serving through these videos! I’ve felt impressed to use the videos as a review of the weekly study that my daughters and I have together. “Told y’all” 😂 Love these so much.
I always look forward to your videos.
Great teachers! I listen/watch after doing my weekly study.
Have I told you lately that I love you guys.💕💕💕💕💕💕.
I love your study sheets. I am compiling a folder of master copies for further study and activities with my family. They will never be out of date!
I am so glad you didn't time it. Every minute after you said that felt like a gift. ;)
Thank you for taking the time to do these. They help me teach my teenagers about the gospel, making it personal and applicable to each of us.
Yes, it may have been long, but oh so worth the watch! Thank you!
thank you again.. I love the way you laugh together especially David, I can tell....you guys loves what you're doing.. we love it
I love all the tips 💕
Seriously, THANK YOU! I love love love your "Come Follow Me" videos. I teach SS and these are such a great help to me! Thanks for the time you take to make these. Don't stop!
I just love you both! Thank you for everything! I love this episode was longer !
We see more clearly as we learn to trust. When changes are fuzzy it can exalt us!
Thank you so much for your time and efforts! You are doing so much more good than you can possibly know.
What an excellent video. Love your teaching style and the lessons and things you glean. This will make this week’s lessons so much better and deeper. Thanks. Longer is great!
I love the principles you found and share with us (specially on this lesson) Thank you so much!!!
Thanks so much for bringing the scriptures to life for me! Love you guys and thankful for all you do, lots of hugs from England xx
Thanks, I like to watch your program before I get started on a plan for teaching the high school kids in my ward.
FYI my boys and I beg to differ with you Emily, the Brother of Jared can make wind, we where cracking up when David was laughing, my wife and Daughters just rolled their eyes
Must be a guy thing
Haha. All men have their inner 12 year old boy just giggling at wind making.
It's not just a guy thing..... Me
I laughed too and I'm a girl, a woman I should say, but have a childish heart.....I knew exactly what David was implying 🤣.
The humor is what keeps it all real! Thx for your fun personalities. :)
I have to teach SS in two hours... THANK YOU!!!!
You are both heroes...
Love this thank you
Not elder Uchtdorf! 😂 how sad. I couldn’t stop laughing when Emily told you not to pick a specific one. Love all your episodes. I’ve been a convert for almost 6 years now and honestly have a hard time understanding everything, but y’all make it so much easier for me! So thank you for that.

You guys are awesome! This is helping my study efforts so much - I'm very grateful for your videos!
I’ve just discovered your lessons - excellent insights. I will be sharing some of your thoughts with my friends and family in FHE tonight
Thank you so much for all the time and work you put into this. It was a total game changer in my calling as a youth Sunday school teacher. Up on the housetop, here he comes!
The Lord often gives a message 3 times, to emphasize, or seal, the message.
Seriously dying! 😂 I bet Hillary Weeks could come up with the perfect intro song for you guys!
I love you both so much! Thank you for your efforts. I have been trying to get the newsletter and found it in the trash. I am so glad I found it and now wonder why and who directed it there! Keep up your wonderful work.
Ha. That’s exactly how I felt. Do I share this or keep to myself?? But I did share. :) Thanks for your insight.

On the board, what is written beside " v. 11--Lord's ????" I can't make out the second word.
Tanya Stelly Lord’s hand - I think
They said something about the lord orchestrating. So I think it says Orch. But I can’t be sure....
If that were true about our blood line doesn’t matter than why distinction of the priesthood and who holds it later on ? I’m confused .,,
Thanks for sharing your confusion. I am confused too.

Why are you chewing gum during this lesson?
Helpful information but so much laughing, over almost anything.
Dave Smith I love it! Makes it so much more relatable.
