I just googled as I haven’t bought a box for years, looks like they have turned him into a action figure in some pictures.
I'm in the UK. I loved the Cool Spot video game, I mean I was obsessed as a little girl. I still have it along with my Sega Master System to play it on!
The PC police sure took the fun out of commercials. Now all we get are prescription drug ads that make it look so nice while the drugs are killing your liver or brain. Thank you for bringing back the good times. 👍👍
Sounds like she had quite the collection. Did she have a chihuahua? It seemed people who did loved collecting the little dogs. Thank you for watching Lois!
Cesar Romero - aka "The Joker", etc was said to have been advocating to end the Frito Bandito and for a while it was changed to "Amigo" before it ended. The WC Fields like character came along in the 70s. I love the old Quisp Cereal space man logo so much I've had a few T-shirts of him over the years! Also Milton the Toaster for Kellogg's Pop-Tarts!
Thank you for giving us a little more background on Frito Bandito! I almost put Quisp in this video because I loved him. I thought I would save him for a future one. Thank you for watching and giving us a couple others too!
@@RhettyforHistory that sounds great! All of those character voices resided in the Jay Ward universe of Tom Slick, Super Chicken, George of the Jungle, etc!
I do remember them. For me Cookie Crisp will always be associated with the Cookie Crook although I also remember a wizard for them too. Thank you for watching wqqdcraft!
They need to ban pill pushers (Pharmaceuticals), lawsuit lawyers and get back to using some imagination like these commercials were. Too bad someone will always find something to say they are discrimination of something.
Imagination is lacking all over. Architecture, car designs, Advertising, TV shows, and most of all in Hollywood. New movies lack imagination at best, and most are just remakes or reboots (poorly done.) Just my two cents on the subject.
The Noid was particularly controversial when a mentally disturbed man named Kenneth Noid thought the ads were directed at him, and held two people hostage at a Domino’s back in 1989. That put a damper on the whole campaign.
I do remember that story coming out. Knowing that it is interesting how the Noid makes a slight appearance every now and then. Thank you for watching XPBInthenight!
Haha! True! My memory could have faded though. I haven't had any of it since the 1970s. It didn't take me long until I figured out I didn't want it again. Thank you for watching!

I remember that too and there were all sorts of merchandise you could get with him. Dolls, shirts etc. Thank you for watching and mentioning Dennis milkman6631!
I think people are way, way too sensitive nowadays. I see nothing wrong with any of these mascots. I remember eating at Sambo's pancake house. It was named after the children's story. I thought it was cool. I never thought anything bad.
Oh that is great that it still works! Can you change the batteries on it or are those the original batteries? Thank you for watching and sharing what you have!
@@RhettyforHistory Um, not sure if you can change the batteries, or not. If memory serves, I don't believe you can. In any case, original batteries! No prob. My pleasure!
My favorite product character was "Willy the hillbilly" . Nothing funnier than a rifle toting barefoot mountain man swilling some soda from a moonshine jug!!!! Even though he made a brief comeback to sell more throwback Mt.Dew (real sugar variety) in the 2010's, I understand why Pepsico put him out to pasture, but the ads were hilarious. Punchy was another favorite of mine growing up.
Speaking of Bozo The Clown. I was on the show 2 times in the 80's. Of Course I taped the shows on VHS. I still have them, I watched it a few months ago with my parents and brother. They were also on the show. We lived in Chicago Area. Channel 9 WGN. BOZO was huge around here.
Man, you were lucky! Twice? I always wanted to go on the Bozo show because it looked like so much fun! Thank you for watching and telling us about you being on the show!
@RhettyforHistory The BOZO SHOW set was alot smaller in person. Tickets were free, you would have to ask you mom if she didn't work to order the tickets. My mother got both off our visits and cousins going to the show but on different dates.
From time to time I see that Weener Mobile going around and I always get super excited when I see it. That Barbara is a great one to mention. Thank you for watching jbmbryant!
This might be the perfect place to ask about a product mascot. Mr Tickle. He was a little man with a big feather. And I believe the slogan was Mr. Tickle makes you giggle.
I'm not sure if he was a mascot was he? I do remember a book with him and looking back he has sort of become controversial just because it deals with children and personal space. Is that who you are referring to? Thank you for watching!
The Cookie Crook and Officer Crumb from Cookie Crisp disappeared without a trace it seemed leaving only Chip the Dog who looks like Wile E Coyote now. King Vitamin I remembered was portrayed by George Mann before he became animated in 2000 and of course the clown from Kaboom cereal.
I used to have the " Cool Spot " video game. The California Raisons were very cool. Does the Twinkies company still exist ? I haven't seen a Twinkie in years.
Snap, Crackle and Pop and The Energizer Bunny are still going believe it or not. I just don't think we see commercials of them like we used to. I haven't seen the Most Interesting Man In The World in awhile though. Thank you for watching my friend!
I hope they bring back the Washington Redskins. I always thought the logo was respectful of Native Americans. The same with the Land O Lakes mascot. In the early 80s I boarded a plane from Albuquerque to Dallas. A number of Navajo Indians were on that flight. They all had Washington Redskins hats and jackets -- they were going to Dallas to cheer on the Redskins. They were not offended by the Washington mascot.
I am familiar with who you are talking about but only because I'm a nerd when it comes to this stuff. Thank you for watching and mentioning him yoshitoshi98!

Thank you for watching Jodie! Sounds like the Streets ice cream is a huge hit. Do they still use the same mascot? Have they redesigned him?
I don’t see any commercials these days, only the the ice creams that they now sell in boxes in the supermarkets as opposed to when you had to buy one individually at the corner store.
I just googled as I haven’t bought a box for years, looks like they have turned him into a action figure in some pictures.
My first mother-in-law collected all of the California Raisins stuff she could find.
There was definitely a lot to collect when they were popular. Thank you for watching willhorting5317!
I'm in the UK. I loved the Cool Spot video game, I mean I was obsessed as a little girl. I still have it along with my Sega Master System to play it on!
I never played the game but it must have been a lot of fun then? Thank you for watching and letting us know what you still have!
The PC police sure took the fun out of commercials. Now all we get are prescription drug ads that make it look so nice while the drugs are killing your liver or brain. Thank you for bringing back the good times. 👍👍
You're welcome and thank you for watching dthomas5281!
Who remembers when the California Raisins got there platinum record on the American Music Awards?
It's incredible what a commercial back then did!
Love the.speedy mascot 😊
He was definitely a big one for McDonalds. Thank you for watching Mike!
The Italian guy who says “Mama Mia! Them’s spicy meat balls.” The alka seltzer commercials.
I remember the Hi-c giraffe on the cans
Oh Rhett! My mom had every one of those Taco Bell dogs! She also had all of the Ziggy dolls!!❤
I believe that there used to be the three bakers for Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
You're right about that. I had to look that one up because I couldn't quite remember. Thank you for watching bl4rgh!
How about the little elves for the Keebler cookies.
I remember the noid commercials. I definitely remember the refrigerator raider.
Thank you for watching and sharing what you remember casteel765!
@@RhettyforHistory when are gonna go back to doing famous outlaw graves?
There was something special about the time when the 7-Up Dot and California Raisins were all over at the same time.
Thank you for watching Lauren!
lets not forget the dogs from cookie crisp!
I do remember them. For me Cookie Crisp will always be associated with the Cookie Crook although I also remember a wizard for them too. Thank you for watching wqqdcraft!
Krinkles the clown was terrifying.
Certainly not the best mascot to have. Thank you for watching janedee6488!
That was scary!
Back when advertising was effective. Now, most adds make me NOT want to buy the product. Advertising is terrible now.
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts D.A.B-w7n!
Fascinating!
Thank you for watching Brenda!
@RhettyforHistory You're welcome!
They need to ban pill pushers (Pharmaceuticals), lawsuit lawyers and get back to using some imagination like these commercials were. Too bad someone will always find something to say they are discrimination of something.
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts heartoheart4me!
Imagination is lacking all over. Architecture, car designs, Advertising, TV shows, and most of all in Hollywood. New movies lack imagination at best, and most are just remakes or reboots (poorly done.) Just my two cents on the subject.
Avoid the Noid! I won a Noid plushie at Kings Island back in the late 80’s. 🤣🤣
Very cool! I guess Dominoes had a deal with them? Thank you for watching!
@ Hmmmm, I guess? 🤔. I just remember he was one of the prizes for winning a game, so I chose him
In Canada Kokanee beer had their dog Brew. Years later they had their Sasquatch... Those were great ads.
I had a 7-Up Dot phone! ❤
Oh nice! Thank you for watching and sharing what you had Kristian!
Snap crack and pop rice kispie figure
They are still being used and they are definitely iconic! Thank you for watching altonliles4579!
Not...not Popsicle Pete! NONE OF US ARE SAFE!
I see you definitely know about him! Thank you for watching!
I have one of the taco bell dogs and a set of the California raisins lol
Oh very nice! Both were very iconic in their time. Thank you for watching and sharing what you have topofthepalm!
You got Fruit Stripe that lasted 30 seconds to a minute. You must have gotten a pack with extra flavoring
Haha! True! My memory could have faded though. I haven't had any of it since the 1970s. It didn't take me long until I figured out I didn't want it again. Thank you for watching!
I haven't seen The Coppertone Baby in awhile. Was she discontinued?
I bet she was but that is a good one to mention. Thank you for watching!
Such a great video. It really shows how easily offended society is and how corporate and boring life has become. Growing up on the 80’s was a true blessing.
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts Doug!
I remember when Dennis the Menace characters were mascots for Dairy Queen.
I remember that too and there were all sorts of merchandise you could get with him. Dolls, shirts etc. Thank you for watching and mentioning Dennis milkman6631!
I remember the graffiti on bathroom walls that was used to promote Trojans. Captain Condom sez "Don't get funky, wrap your monkey!"
😊👍
Thank you for watching Monika!
I had the Cool Spot Othello game
I loved the Taco Bell commercial that parodied Cuba
Oh that would be fun and I didn't know there was one. Was it red on one side and green on the other? Thank you for watching and sharing what you have!
I think people are way, way too sensitive nowadays. I see nothing wrong with any of these mascots. I remember eating at Sambo's pancake house. It was named after the children's story. I thought it was cool. I never thought anything bad.
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts grumpyoldwizard.
I have the Taco Bell toy, the second one, standing up. It still works, too!
@paulmorvantjr.8072 That really is amazing that it's lasted that long!
There's a reason why the Sprite boy didn't last. He's nightmare fuel!
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts GeeEm1313!
I have an almost 14 year old cat named Frito Bandito. He's one cool cat 🐱
Thank you for watching and telling us about your cat pinksparkle258!
I still have some my talking taco bell dogs. Even though I only think one of them still works.
Those are so old that it is impressive that any of them even work. Thank you for watching and sharing what you have.
actually just checked them and 3 of the 4 still work. Also still in their plastic bags.
thumb 👍
Thank you for watching J_Calvin_Hobbes!
"I yi yi I am the Frito Bandito"🎶
I still have my Taco Bell Chihuahua :)
Awesome! Thank you for watching wheelchere!
I remember Barbara Ann Bread back in the 60's, and Oscar Mayer and his Weener Mobile. Lol
From time to time I see that Weener Mobile going around and I always get super excited when I see it. That Barbara is a great one to mention. Thank you for watching jbmbryant!
Rhett, where do you get that backup music? It’s real nostalgic, I like it
It is a subscription service that I have to Epidemic Sound. Thank you for watching Mike!
@@RhettyforHistory thanks from a fellow okie
This might be the perfect place to ask about a product mascot. Mr Tickle. He was a little man with a big feather. And I believe the slogan was Mr. Tickle makes you giggle.
I'm not sure if he was a mascot was he? I do remember a book with him and looking back he has sort of become controversial just because it deals with children and personal space. Is that who you are referring to? Thank you for watching!
@RhettyforHistory you're thinking of the Mr. Men books. No that's not him. But thanks for responding.
I still have the Cool Spot game for the Sega Genesis 😎
Oh nice! Was it a fun game? Thank you for watching!
@RhettyforHistory I thought it was, my friends did too 🙂
5:35 me wondering why she's not wearing a shirt: 👁️👄👁️
Looking back it may be a little weird. I don't think they considered it that way back then.
Yeah I noticed that too. Maybe because she was a little kid?
I used to have the " Cool Spot " video game. The California Raisons were very cool. Does the Twinkies company still exist ? I haven't seen a Twinkie in years.
Other long gone mascots:
Energizer Bunny
Snap, Crackle, and Pop
The Most Interesting Man in the World
Snap, Crackle and Pop and The Energizer Bunny are still going believe it or not. I just don't think we see commercials of them like we used to. I haven't seen the Most Interesting Man In The World in awhile though. Thank you for watching my friend!
I don't know why, but the Noid annoyed me! 😊
Sometimes I think that is their intent so it gets stuck in your head. Thank you for watching Pamela!
I vaguely remember the Hawaiian Punch guy
He was a fun character!
I'm pretty sure that the Cookie Monster made his debut in an IBM computer commercial.
That does pre-date it by a couple years. I have seen that one and he has teeth. Thank you for watching Andy!
They were not offended by the Washington mascot.
i remember the spuds Mackenzie dog from the 80's i think it was Budweiser he was promoting, but i'm not sure
Yes, he was promoting Bud Light specifically. He was a big one, Thank you for watching Jerry!
Anyone remember Fresh Up Freddie for 7-Up?
I am familiar with who you are talking about but only because I'm a nerd when it comes to this stuff. Thank you for watching and mentioning him yoshitoshi98!
What about the smile face we used to see at Walmart. I called him Wally Walmart.😁
"I am the Frito Bandito..."
They just don't make em like the old days. Plus it's hard to do anything without the P. C Police being called.
Companies definitely have to be a lot more careful now. Thank you for watching Michael!
Yes, back in the day they made advertising fun, and it showed. Now it's all boring because we wouldn't want to offend anyone. Ugh
Honestly I think it's a small group of people that get offended but make a big deal. I've never met anyone offended by the TB Chihuahua. The Frito Bandito was before my time but my mama said she loved him! I looked up some commercials and I think they're hilarious. Especially the mustaches! 😆
My gosh everybody's got to complain about something that doggie there's something wrong with that doggie oh my gosh that's hurting my feelings
Thank you for watching MoeLarrycurly1!
So Hispanics were offended by a little chihuahua. Poor babies.
SOME HISPANICS. Most of us actually liked the Chihuahua.
There was the Cookie Crisp dog who was replaced with a wolf
This is another one that has had several mascots. I think they started out with a wizard. I always associate it with a crook that was trying to steal the cookie crisp and there was a cop trying to stop him. I do remember the dog and wolf too though.
Saving a Life Spud potato from Rice a Roni 😉🤟🗽🌃🌉💯😼
I forgot all about him! Thank you for watching and jarring my memory!
@@RhettyforHistory 👍
It's a shame that we live in a world now where someone is offended by a ladies picture on a syrup bottle.
I don't remember the Alpha-Bits Wizard
The cereal had several mascots. I guess they were trying until they found something that was a hit but it never really happened.
I hope u reach 1,000,000 subs by the end of 2025.
Thank you my friend!
