The one track that sends tears down my face. My mum left me at the age of two for a life down under. I never got to see her till she visited UK 16 years later but then it was only for a three month holiday. She passed away 8 years ago today but I have a collection of signed photos she had of DC5 from the times she spent writing to them and having tea in Lndon with them before she went to Australia. She left a mark on me where I continue her love of 60's golden music, especially DC5.
That sounds so unfortunate and sad that your mother went so far away when you were only two. She must have died fairly young too (whilst you were still only in your 40s?l). I hope life has brought you happiness too. Yes, it is a song that has brought me to tears too - and even long before I ever experienced real heartbreak. I rate this as A Perfect Song, along with 'I Pretend', a hit in 1967 for Des O'Connor, by the same songwriters, Bary Mason and Les Reed. My other favourite by DC5, tho, was 'Bits and Pieces', used to make us (sister & cousin) so happy, jumping around madly waving our arms in the air!!🙃
From what I understand Clark had all five of them try the lead in this song. He feld (and correctly so) Lenny's vocals were the best for Everybody Knows.
MikeBlitzMag ~ I agree. A Perfect Song. Written by Barry Mason/music I think, and Les Reed RIP/lyrics. I also rate another one of theirs, 'I Pretend', as A Perfect Song, especially as sung by Des O':Connor R.I.P.
I don't remember the DC5 doing "Everybody Knows". My first recollection of it is the Engelbert Humperdinck version on an LP in the summer of 1969. I loved it. I don't remember ever hearing it on the radio. Just found the DC5 version today, 55 years later! I was a huge fan of the British Invasion bands too. Still am
Nice find. I was looking for the other "Everybody Knows," and found a new song. At first I thought this wasn't even the DC5, because Lenny Davidson is taking the lead instead of Mike Smith.
Any one of the Best of, or Greatest Hits CD's, It Is on all of them. There were Two records In the chart at the same time. Both called Everybody Knows by the Dave Clark Five. But Different Recordings. But this Is the one that Is always on those disc's Good Luck.
@@jstitt13 Better of the two, certainly, if you mean the one that started "Why, why did we choose this crowded place..." I seem to remember singing this to myself (and my still unbroken heart to the point of tears) a lot in 1965-6 (?). Most beautiful song sung by a man, written by a man (so 2 men?), that taught this young teen girl that not all men were as heartless as her own Scarlet Pimpernel father. A precious lesson. The other song passed me by and hearing it in recent years it made no impression at all.

Beautiful song
well it reached no 2 in the u.k a number 1 really.
Why this excellent song only made no. 43 in the US doesn't make sense. Should've been a number 1 for at least four weeks.........isn't it!!!!!!!!!
Growing up in the 1960's was a wonderful creative time here in Britain We have given the world the legacy of our music that will last
thx

Talaga naman very soft and lovely mga songs nila hehehe.
Lennie had a lovely voice, pity DC didn't feature him more.
Who's Lennie
Lenny Davidson - - played backing & occasional lead vocals - - lead & rhythm guitars
I thought Lenny sang with Mike sharing lead vocals on some songs. Like Glad All Other.
I Love th at voice.

This one was the bigger hit in the uk , number 2 1967 .

love it
Best record they made.
Nice song.
Love ur song DC5
Heard this on boom radio.
They actually had two songs - completely different - called "Everybody Knows".
"everybody knows" that
This one was recorded in 1968. It's a beautiful song, but I prefer the more angst-ridden, anguished 1964 recording.
This is the better of the 2. But both amazing
Not a song to play when you’ve broken up or have unrequited love.

❤ this..
Thats fact. They had harmonies. In their, voices. Also very talent too. In theirs, primes, not now.
I miss my high school days
All this song needs is a key change, everybody stands up and hey presto.......Westlife
Westlife ho ho bloody ho , they were crap.
the group LOS MITOS has a spanish version called TODOS LO SABEN
talented bunch
That’s so super 🎧👀👍🎤❤️
Sad meaning but this song is nice to listen😊
A song to all cheaters 😄
Top tune
Esta rola fue traducida al español por los mitos de España interpretada por Tony Landa......excelente
Superoldie, hört man leider viel zu selten
a break up song for anyone who's been there before
nice
Composed by the late,
LESLIE REED-RIP & BARRY MASON-RIP
These writers did a whole bunch of songs that were very well written, some charted high, others not so much. Almost all I liked.
for a very long time i carried the idea that it was Engelbert the original singer of this song it was only now i learned it wasn't
Love Lenny Davidson
Hanne Kruse Me too!
