- People wonder why black women are so angry. But the “angry black woman” is just one of the many myths that help people remain oblivious to the fact that discrimination is still very much a thing today. It is another barrier used to discredit the injustices that happen related to color and gender. Angela Shaw is an accomplished HR professional with experience in multiple industries. She is currently HR Manager at Formspace. She also teaches an Essentials of HR Class at Austin Community College where she can interact with future HR leaders. She is dual certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources and a SHRM Certified Professional. Angela has a love of HR but is specifically devoted to diversity, inclusion, and workforce readiness. She believes in organizations being socially responsible, accountable and diverse. Angela views volunteer leadership as a pathway for her passion as a servant leader to the HR community. She is the 2019 President for Austin Human Resource Management Association. People saying its not true it is i was once fired from a job for not smiling enough . I wasn't and less smiley than my white coworkers and im mixed .
Well what was your job?
What kind of job was it ? Some jobs definitely require people to be more outwardly friendly
Sorry that happen
the best bet is to get to know every person you encounter and treat them with respect and compassion. some women get the message that they are not important or respected. i choose to listen to and support those people.
This will fall on deaf ears because you have to be receptive to receive this information.
These comments prove her right. She was perfectly calm and rational in this video yet is still being demonized in the comments.

They're just assholes
She just openly admits to doing the antisocial behavior, maybe you missed that part. She then went on to defend it (the behavior that causes problems instead of solving them). Imagine if she was calm and articulate all the time but then she wouldn't get the attention she seeks and a TED talk.

I worked in a call center and there was a white male who would curse and yell at the callers. Then he would slam the phone down 5 times after each call and leave to go smoke. Management never corrected him. I told them his outburst made me uncomfortable and they began to correct me and suddenly I was the problem and I had the attitude. Even though the callers loved me. When I held people accountable I had a problem. And when callers had problems that required me to give them extra time, I took too long on my phone calls and have to stop trying to help people and just get off the phone. Quantity over Quality.
Everyone regardless of race or gender should be able to Express their emotions. I mean after all there us one race right ? The "Human Race".

Well, I must chime in. Life can make one ANGRY, bitter. I spent almost 4 yrs single & celibate after a horrific breakup! Did all the work on me. Found the joy that was stolen. I wasn't angry in these yrs of rebuilding (financially too, as he was a leech), but hopeful, optimistic, yet sad as I healed. I finally felt ready to put myself back on the market. Soldiers sent to unjust wars yet believe what they're doing is good for the world could also tell you same thing. White Trump supporters who think they're being somehow erased from society because what they perceive as "globalism" (which is wrong), for example, is something they, not you or I experience.
Experience while valuable, certainly, is not good as a standalone criterion for valid inferences of any phenomenon. I'm not saying there's no reason for anger qua the topic of this video, yet perhaps an outsiders point of view could be useful when learning to discern between objectivity and subjectivity, namely if one wishes to reach truth in lieu of myopia. Remember the maxim: Three sides to every story...
Stereotypes hurt everyone... they keep us from forming bonds, understanding each others viewpoints, and collaborating to create solutions. With all of the turmoil today, we need to look at each other differently. Thank you for reminding us that bold women are not angry... simply bold... and that color doesn't define our emotions. Well done!
no we need to stop assuming, that's the problem.
BOLD !!! ?? IS BOLD THE NEW ANGRY ?? LOL..
@Truthful Chap Dude you just killed me 😂
Encompassing all of our emotions that are not warm and accommodating as “angry” is so dismissive. I appreciate this talk for touching on that. Feeling your feelings doesn’t justify treating other people badly, it means that you’re processing an internal reaction to something. When we honor our feelings and when people respect them as a part of our humanity, our emotional intelligence develops so that those feelings are managed in a way that doesn’t (intentionally or not) hurt other people out of reaction.
You need to get some friends or go out. 😖
Its HOW you express it.

Exactly…proving her point!
with resentment comes entitlement
professorbland very true
may day resentment is an indication that your brain feels that something in the environment is unfair. That means that you feel reciprocity is unbalanced - “why do they get x and I get nothing even though I did z and they did nothing” for example. You feel cheated and therefore to balance things you feel entitled to a rectification of that. You feel owed what you deserve in a just world. If you feel cheated, then you feel resentful, and if you feel resentful, you feel entitled to satisfaction. This satisfaction may be sought or achieved through a number of means: direct vengeance, appeals to authority, passive aggressive behavior, or bitterness towards everyone and everything - all in the interest of balancing the scales. If you can’t get what you think you deserve, you may try to take things from others (even if they have nothing to do with your situation) to balance the scales in the negative instead of the positive. This is the dark side of reciprocity mechanisms in our brains.

Oh so since you are a vibrant person the rest of us have to put up with your "wide range of emotions". Sorry but no. The ability to keep one's emotions in check is a sign of maturity and in the workplace, it is called professionalism. As a former CEO of a $200M company and the owner of my own business, I would not tolerate emotional outbursts. The ability to debate, disagree and discuss a point is an important skill that employers seek. If you believe I am wrong then tell me why but do so in an intelligent and constructive manner. Displaying one of your wide range of emotions tells me that you are incapable of logically and professionally defending your point of view or communicating an alternate strategy. Raise your voice or become emotional and you lose any respect I may have had for you. As valid as your point may have been it is now irrelevant because of your behavior and lack of respect. Disruptive behavior is like cancer in a business environment. With that chip on your should and that the fact that you are in HR is shocking to me.
