Only used cedar, cypress, and redwood for trim and vertical grained fir for floor decking when restoring old house exteriors. When my local building supply started carrying Axek I used it on a small restoration that needed custom moldings to match the originals. Had custom knives made and using my shaper the Azek moldings I made were indistinguishable from the original wood ones. Used it next on a full house restoration that was built in1902. The clients architect was not convinced that PVC would have the same look as wood until I showed him previous restorations we did. In the end we used Azek for everything except for the cedar bevel siding and bead board for the porch ceiling. Years ago I never thought I would be using PVC to replace wood. Today I would only use Azek for exterior work. It holds paint better than wood and I wish it was available in 1982 when I restored my 1898 Victorian.
