Originally they were designed with the handicapped and the elderly in mind (people who were in wheelchairs and couldn't adequately cover themselves with a normal blanket or would get sores from having a blanket bunched up under them for long periods of time), but companies started marketing them to the general public with ads that suggested operating a normal blanket was some lost esoteric art that only a genius could manage. Seriously, look up some snuggie ads, the people in them tend to be idiots.

To be fair, Red Skull didn't really hide it. He was pretty open about being a Nazi, especially wearing the Swastika, but Joker thought it was all a joke until he realized it wasn't.

To be fair, Red Skull didn't really hide it. He was pretty open about being a Nazi, especially wearing the Swastika, but Joker thought it was all a joke until he realized it wasn't.

Kicking a puppy goes too far, yet it makes sense for the joker to 'attack' this trope, due to how emotionally attached most people are to small, fluffy animals.
