Not exactly the first Kubrick adaptation for stage - there was A Clockwork Orange with music by U2’s The Edge. You could say well, it was a new interpretation of Burgess’s novel but visually it obviously took its inspiration from the film.
I think this will just miss the satire that was present in the Kubrick film. Iannucci just seems to be completely off on what is really going on in politics these days.
Seems a pointless exercise - Sure Kubrick chose Sellars to play different roles - but there is no logical reason for any other version/remake/stage play to have a single actor play the same three roles. They are just making problems for themselves and the audience. Esp in the finale act where two of those roles have to converse with each other.
I’m wondering if you have since seen the production, and if so if you have changed your mind? I thought that the switch between characters was handled extremely cleverly and added to the comedy aspect. One of the best theatrical moments in London since Ralph Fiennes in Man or Superman for me. I would recommend it to anyone. Superb production!
Extremely enjoyable production
Saw this last night and my god, was it a treat!
Got my ticket. Can't wait!
Amazing. What a team.
Really looking forward to seeing this.
I'll hang on for the film version... or... wait.
Hilarious....
Definitely planning to get a ticket for this

That was an adaptation of the Anthony Burgess novel and not of the Kubrick film version.
@@nimos1 See my last sentence. I saw the production (which was very good). But visually there was a lot of Kubrick going on. And why not?
Terry Southern and Kubrick's script is truly timeless... even before Putin started ranting, you could watch it every year and still laugh. And I do.
Yup Terry Southern barely ever gets a mention
@rigsby1454 he was also a pal of Bill Burroughs, makes a cameo in the Criterion documentary on him.

How much pies will there be for the stage version? Hmmmm.
Putin on a show

Yer they pulled it off quite well I thought
Not for me as it is yet another woke production with ‘colour blind’ casting. Steve Coogan also seems miscast.
