My husband's grandfather fought for Germany in WW1. He was part of the "Christmas Eve Truce" and said that no one wanted to go back to fighting. Their hearts weren't in it. When he came to the U.S. he said that he would never fight for any country. He decided that only the leaders benefited from it. His attitude was, "Let the leaders fight it out."
