Android auto wont go obsolete. I just set spotify to max bitrate and use voice command. My factory sub is fitted in the spare wheel well, you can buy after market ones but they are non-ported subs.
I agree that both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are likely to be around for the long haul. However, as new units come out over time with more processing power developers will begin designing the apps to take advantage of that increased power which tends to make them more clunky on older models. Also, and this does vary by manufacturer, you have no guarantee that they'll continue to support firmware/software updates for older units. You see the same thing with "smart" TVs. They want you to keep buying the latest and greatest so keeping you happy with the older models generally isn't a top priority for them. And, my comments here are mainly about a classic car like my Mercedes. Something that isn't my primary means of transportation. When I'm looking for a new car for a daily driver I do want to have all of the bleeding edge tech but those are cars I usually sell/upgrade in 5 or so years. And, lastly, if I could find something that I thought looked good in the car AND had all of the current features I'd be all in but there just really isn't much available that meets both those criteria when fitting to these older cars.
Plus, I do upgrade my phone every few years so will always be able run the most current apps (WAZE being most important to me). And if you use streaming audio apps you're all set if the head unit has bluetooth. But, like I said, my points in this video were really about fitting to an older, classic car where I don't want to be figuring out what to upgrade to every 5 or 6 years. Just want to pick something that I can install and just not think about again after.
Thanks! That Blaupunkt was actually one on my list. Think the only reason I didn't mention it in my video is that I couldn't find anything I didn't like about it. At some point I just got so focused on the Kienzle it really just became a matter of figuring out the best place to buy it. I'll be putting something in the red car I have at some point and might go with the Blaupunkt when I do ... just to switch things up a bit. I like that you have the option of using a regular memory on the card in the front .... assuming you can close that panel if you do that.

Got a Blaupunkt Bremen SQR. Best vintage look in my opinion. Good job on your W126s!
Thanks!
