1987 Mercedes 420SEL Cold Start (about 1 month since last start)
Quick cold start demo. Car hadn't been started in several weeks with temps in the 40s. Foot off the gas pedal, just turn the key. Settles to around 800 rpm idle almost immediately and 6-700 rpm when warm.
Video made December 2024 right before sending it to be listed for me on Bring a Trailer.

Black W126 1986 Mercedes 420 SEL Walk Around
I can tell this car has been stored properly just from the color of the needles in the dash. No sun fade at all
Yeah, the car has lead a good life. Couple of the needles in the cluster have yellowed just a bit but absolutely no indication of UV damage to the leather, carpet etc. Don't know how familiar you are with these but the tail lights are also a big indicator of how much exposure a W126 has had. When I first got the car I removed them just so I could clean and put a coat of wax around where they mount and it would have been easy to mistake the tail lights themselves for NOS parts that had just been taken out of the box.
Started just like picking up hair from a butter
That red leather is awesome. Kinda rare here in Germany. I wish that car would be mine ;-) Marlon
It really is gorgeous in person if you can find it in nice condition. I had trouble getting pictures that really represent it great but videos (just from my phone) worked pretty well. I have another vid where I focus on just the interior this car I posted a while back.

Hi, time ago I tested a w126 300. Very clean car with many options and the suede interior, but.... the ride was terrible, although the engine seemed to be smooth. I walked away from it. Gearbox tuning was messed up I guess.
Get yourself some Euro headlamps and it will look awesome! Previous owner of my W126 sourced some and it looks great.
I'm actually one of the oddballs that likes the stock US headlights. Don't know if I'd do it on this car but had thoughts of getting a set of the previous gen headlights (where the foglights are separate pieces like the headlights) and retrofitting. Paint the plastic frame/doors body color. Saw a pic of a black AMG W126 that had done that and liked the look.
Best video about speaker grill removal. The only one that shows you how to do it without breaking the grill. Thank you!!!!!!
I own an '84 (Gen1 W126) with reclining/heated back seat. Process is similar, but there are a couple bolts holding the bottom in rather than quick release. Also, you have to unplug connections for recliner and heated seats as you remove the seat. The top of the seat back is a little different too. A plastic cover flips up to expose the hardware connection. As a bonus, you'll hopefully find the original M-B build sheet under the back seat. I did, but thought it was trash and discarded it :(
I'm suspecting EGR valve on Red Benz.
Never know that snmp card can actually be reset with hidden button. Thanks mate ill give it a try. I had some issue at site that my SNMP card keep being faulty after several months of working. I only resolved it once i replace it with new card. Do you know what are potential problem?
Great videos on this channel! Is there a shop in your area that will work on these cars?
Thank you.. will be careful😅
You can do this without the battery shutting down and killing power to the servers plugged in correct? This is only for resetting the network card access and login?
It's not something I would have ever done with a UPS that was in active use. Just had it come up a few times when I bought used cards or APCs with cards that weren't at the factory defaults when I received them. When you do it you're rebooting the network card and don't think that should cause the UPS itself to do any kind of reset and pretty sure I've made network settings changes in cards (which causes the card to reboot) without it taking the UPS offline but it's been awhile since I've had to do it so wouldn't want to say 100% safe if you have something mission critical running off of one.
@@RBeam6 10-4 thanks for the quick reply.
Looking to do the same with the same speakers did you do the side door one’s also?
This is an 87 and didn't have the side door speakers. Believe they were first added in 88 or 89. Other difference in the cars without the side speakers is that they used the amp section of the head unit. The later versions had two little amps behind the rear seat. One for the left side and one for the right. If you have a car with the later version of the stereo I'd suggest just swapping out the rears at first and see what you think. I also have a 1990 and it had the kicker speakers in the back when I got it. Everything else stock. It sounds surprisingly good just like that. Those kickers have pretty good bass for a speaker that size and with the fader dialed towards the back I think it has a nice sound with enough volume to sound good even with the windows and sunroof open.

Beautiful car What size wheels are they?
That's absolutely beautiful
We have one black beauty red interior❣️
every changed the transmission fluid and carefully check the vaccuum system for leaks.. theye have a VERY big and complex vaccum system as everything is operated by vaccum.. lots of lines which may leak after 40 years. The first cars shifts a bit too early at full throttle , that can be adjusted I think on the modulater at the transmission Don´t know about US models but in Europe around 1988 they brought new engines, so these might have slightly different power even though they are both 420s 145k is not high milager for a W126
Are the Bosch or URO parts?
Ones that I put on were just the URO parts version. Even though the ones that were on the car were the original Bosch and in about as condition as you'll see for originals the difference in clarity for the new URO ones was pretty significant. Even if you could find a set of NOS Bosch doors they'd probably be outrageously expensive and might show some clouding just from sitting in a warehouse for 30 years.
@@RBeam6 dont throw the og bosch ones away. Mbz parts hard to find. I bought euro ones for my w126 1981 300SD for $1200 from Netherlands.
@@sammalikmerc Yeah. I have them safely packed up to keep with the car if I ever sell it.
Beautiful car...I love the wheels...and I plan on getting a set for my 420SEL. I've been researching tire sizes...and I see you went with the 235/45/17. So, how do you feel about the tire size since you've had them for a while? Any regrets on the size chosen? How is the ride compared to the OEM wheel/tire setup? Any rubbing? Thanks!
I recently learned there were 2 different rear chrome pieces used on the USA bumpers. One is a big solid piece - I think this was used through sometime in 87. The later cars got a 3 piece setup like the front bumper, and this made the gap between the bumper and the body just a lill less. The bumper cover is the same between them - though swapping to the single piece from the multi piece leaves a tiny gap at the end.
Interesting to see the view comparison - the slightly smaller steering wheel in the later car stands out!
what the hell is this nonsense?? are you mute?
I know this video is a tad dated now but it worked great factory resetting a AP9641 NMC. I updated the firmware via FTP and it didn't come back online. (SCP didn't work and I couldn't access the web interface). It wasn't pingable and I was across the country, so console access wasn't really going to work. I had someone onsite perform this factory reset and it popped up in the DHCP leases after. Strangely enough the firmware was updated. I need to reconfigure it now obviously but I'm back in business. Thanks for the video.
Glad it helped. I know when I ran into the issue it took me forever to find the "trick" buried in some forum. Figured it might be useful to post something with the right keywords for the search engines ... save someone else the frustration.
Bruh.... put something behind those damn wheels!!! KILLING ME watching this shit.
Hey you have some very nice W126s. Im scared about a lot of classic mercedes parts being NLA, have you experience a lot of that? Also, any info on the panamera in the driveway? I have an 970.1 S myself, love it to death as its NA. I think it will go down as a future classic. I want a GTS now more than the S but this one had a ton of options ticked.
@Saleen5000 Sorry for the delayed reply. Getting ready to move in a couple of months so haven't had much extra time. If you have one of these you definitely run into situations where you can't find new oem parts but seems like more are available that when I got my first 420 4-5 years ago. But, despite how expensive these were at the time, a lot of them were made so you can find used or rebuilt part usually. So if you can do the work yourself you can usually get it done but not necessarily the case if you take them to a shop that might not be into the idea of getting used. The Porsche is a 2011 Panamera Turbo I bought as a certified car around 8 years ago. Pretty rare spec for a non-S car in that it has all of the active suspension options so handling is pretty insane for a car as big as it is. Even keeping it well under its actual cornering limits pretty easy to scare the **** out of a passenger that hasn't been in it before when you dig in to tight turns on a back road. Or at least I've heard .... I obviously would never do something like that. :) Also had it tuned so it's putting out a little over 600 in both horsepower and torque. Made some little cosmetic changes here and there to tweak the look of the car a bit as well.
Bonjour, C'est exactement ce que je souhaite mettre sur ma 300 SE. Magnifique avec ces jantes tout en conservant le look originel. Quelle est la taille de pneus? Merci. 😊
Thanks! Size is 235/45R17.

Good video sir. Just work on your editing, sound and equipment. Was this camera a go pro? If not, it should of been.
Hahaha I always tried to pull it.
I've never heard anyone with a nice Mercedes sound more depressed. Sigh....
I was happy on the inside, just not fully awake. Had to get up early to drive to that spot so I could get the lighting at sunrise.
Unwatchable.
Learn how to use a camera.
Best wheels for these cars are the barock style ones and then the amg wheels from the period.
Not correct to judge from a video but for me the new wheels looks worse! Sorry!
No problem. Everyone has their own tastes and would get pretty boring if everyone did the same thing. I really wanted something pretty much exactly the same look as the OEM wheels but with the 17x8 size .... these are really the closest you can get to that. I do think the wheels are going to work better once I get the springs on. They look a bit more modern and think getting rid of some of the gap between the wheels and the fenders will suit them be4tter.
@@RBeam6 Good luck, they are similar but not the same and man gets used to things even if it looks different from the beginning
If given opportunity change to original (non us) bumpers and headlights.
I get the appeal of the Euro bumpers but personally prefer the US ones. Like the bit of extra length it gives the car and also grew up around these cars so probably partially cause that's just how I think of them looking. If that makes sense.
@@RBeam6 Everything that works for you makes sense for you.😀For us from europe especially the previous models look awful.
@@Bizmyurt If you're talking about the US version of the W116 we're definitely in agreement on that. Those bumpers are ENORMOUS. I have thoughts of getting a 450SEL at some point and would have to do something about the bumpers if I did.
Wow it looks much better than in the other comp. video you had!
From my quick watch the high mileage was better on the road? But it is newer though.
Doubt it was the model year difference. Even though both cars were as I bought them at the time and had no obvious mechanical issues with the suspension they were: a) on different tires b) the low mileage, silver, car has the original factory shocks while the red car had them replaced at some point with non OEM The aftermarket shocks on the red car weren't specifically sport but some combination of the tire/shock difference (not sure if it was one or both) made that one just a tiny bit better in the turns I think. However, after the wheel/tire change on the silver car it's, no comparison, better then the red car which I've made no changes to.
@@RBeam6 You changed it after the video then? Nice cars and think if they were not us versions they would have been faster!
@@Bizmyurt Yeah, if you check the other vids on my channel you'll see a couple when I was doing the wheels and after. Have some H&R springs I'm going to put on it (mainly just to lower it a tad) but haven't had a chance to get that done yet.
@@RBeam6 It will look awesome.
