    Emma: “ I want to save the deamons”
    The little kids who’s siblings were killed, eaten, and were on the verge of being eaten multiple times, and are most likely traumatized by the events. And the fact that they only met TWO demons who dont eat humans: “Yea let’s go!”

    • @comicalpeculiarity6174
      @comicalpeculiarity6174 3 года назад +207

      Well I do understand what you mean, Emma not having an intense hatred of Demons is probably due to her being a main character but I don't think it's inherently bad that she didn't want to genocide all Demons. The revelation that they subsist humanoid forms and intelligence from devouring humans is a big distinction as they aren't wild animals that consume humans willy nilly, rather it's to not degenerate into the wild beasts found in the forested areas. Pair that with Emma's group travelling into multiple Demon settlements, all organized, Demon children even populated these areas showing they could copulate. As the Manga itself put it, Demons are a mirror image of humanity almost. When someone's most important value is family, why take that away from another? This was probably the sentiment she had at the turning point of the TPN Manga
      Sorry, you probably already read the Manga and know the aforementioned reasons but Musica and Sonju were only an aspect for her character shift but an important one, being the first two demons she had a real conversation with, smiled with, laughed with.

      @Moustapha Nour
      Much more logical way for them to coexist is killing the adults and brainwashing the off springs into believing humans are good and fair enough so the demons will no longer be a threat but then a again nuking them is a much easier option

    • @comicalpeculiarity6174
      @comicalpeculiarity6174 3 года назад +48

      @Moustapha Nour But wasn't the matter of coexistence the entire point of the Manga? Literally, when the children return to the human world that had undergrown a multitude of years worth of hardship, it had finally gained unity. The fact of the matter is Demons have their own systems, culture etc that were never shown in depth for the sake of pacing and the fact Musica and her blood exists at all means that there is a means to quell the insatiable hunger they experience. Sure it wouldn't be too realistic per se but the only reason her miraculous appearance hasn't made human meat mute is due to the Nobles and Royalty keeping the populace under their thumb through the control of the plantation's and Demons that genuinely want to keep hunting them like poachers. And with Emma's promise, both worlds will never again interact so saying humans want the land is invalid because they literally can't access it whatsoever and why would they? A lot of it is forests or dunes, who knows if the materials or minerals would be similar to the ones found in the human world? Point is, the Manga poses it is possible and within the context of it's story, it is. It's not about humans nuking all the Demons just cause and breaking the promise but a new one being forged that'd benefit both species

    • @ShadyAnchovy
      @ShadyAnchovy 3 года назад +42

      But that's what make her character and her story interesting. Without her selfish naivety there is no internal conflict between she and her brutally pragmatic and more reasonable brother. Also it's not like she doesn't aware about her flaw, often she questioning her own decision after reality hit her naive mind.

    • @BountyRogueCinemax
      @BountyRogueCinemax 3 года назад +22

      @Moustapha Nour the thing is. There was two ways (emma, ray, and norman) had ideas how to deal with it. Neutral would be demons and humans living together. Norman wanted to just kill all of them which is more extreme. Ray was willing to run away with who he loved and leave everyone else behind. The story was setting itself up that ray was being convinced by emma. Emma the idea I thought. Would going to become the new cells for food for demons, lose something precious to her by the demon God to stop the hunger of demons for humans thus also destroying their royal, or the blood of the demons who don't need to eat humans. For some fucking reason. They scrapped all of the ideas and sacrifices and traumas from the story up to gold pond. And made it that emma got whatever the fuck she wanted. She got all humans out the world, demons just accepted arch duke levious as king and brought him back to life (Lol??) And that was it. Worst story ever

      yeah about the time after they escaped, ray felt like an accessory to emma. when norman was thinking about killing all the demons, i thought ray would get involved more, but he just agrees with emma (granted i guess you could consider his "development" was taking less of a cynical approach and accepting optimism).
      when emma makes the new promise, ray literally just gets lost af and psychologically tortured without accomplishing anything if i remember correctly.
      it's just hilariously tragic that the only reason he was relevant/interesting after all was 1. super rare birth condition 2. being isabella's son.

      one of the things I take a bit of issue with in this video is that Emma isn't just an idealist. I mean, she is, but her strength is in knowing, fully and completely, how hard it is to achieve her ideals, and still demanding that they be achieved anyway. it's high risk, high reward, and the interesting thing is honestly how BOTH of the boys react to this. for Norman, achieving what Emma wants is accepted because 1. he loves Emma and wants to make her happy and 2. Norman fundamentally rises to challenge. because of these two things, Norman decides to accept Emma's conditions for success basically right away. but, conspicuously, the fact that Norman wants to save his family is lower on his priority list. it is certainly there... he does want to save them. but he wouldn't have tried if Emma didn't insist.
      meanwhile, Ray gave up on Emma's idealistic demands before he even fully considered them. he's been laboring under the assumption that the most he could ever hope for is maybe saving Emma and Norman too... he cares like Emma, but he doesn't gamble. he's the one who really sells us on the idea that if things go wrong, they could lose absolutely everything. why else would he have sat by and let so many of his siblings be taken away, knowing what was really happening to them, for years? he was convinced that it was hopeless... that if he attempted to escape, he might not even survive, much less make it out with anyone else.
      really, Emma is the unifying element here. if it weren't for her, Norman wouldn't have thought to try and save everyone, even though he proves that he has the intellectual ability when pushed, and Ray wouldn't have the confidence to try and save everyone, even though he actually can pull it off when he throws caution to the wind and tries his hardest. and this is really interesting, because the person who says "yes" to Emma and enables her pursuit of a perfect solution is Norman, someone who mainly considers things in terms of pragmatism, and simply believes he can solve their conundrum... while the person with the most virulent objections and doubts is Ray, the one who has felt the most grief at each loss, because he actually knew what they were losing the whole time. Ray is jumpy about how much more they might lose if they mess up. how bad it could be if they fail. Norman is intrigued by the challenge of trying, and hasn't been bombarded by loss over such a long period of time the way Ray has.
      what I'm saying is that Ray and Emma actually have a lot of grounds on which to connect, and I think the story would've been a lot stronger if it was emphasized that Emma and Ray had gotten closer over their time traveling together. their perspectives align quite a bit, while Norman's mindset was always hinted at being a bit different than the way the other two think. and this would naturally be compounded by Norman's experiences after leaving Gracefield... after he's experienced more situations in which he is helpless, cared about more people that he couldn't save, and related to the grief and anger of more people who had experienced more different kinds of cruelty.
      what I was hoping to see when these characters were reunited, was Ray stepping up to the plate and opposing Norman, not even for Emma's sake, but for his own sake. because back at Gracefield, deep down, he wanted to save his whole family. if someone had offered him a surefire way to get every single child out of there, he would've jumped at the chance in an instant. and as he and Emma have traveled and experienced this world, the two of them have gained a more complex understanding of what's going on in it. Emma went to Goldy Pond... she knows the attitudes of the demons that ran it, and how they think. she knows that some demons are just cruel beings who find it thrilling to hunt and kill children. and that didn't stop her from having hope in the idea that demons like Mujika could live in harmony with humans. and I think this is because of how directly Emma has faced all of the villains in this series. Emma faced off against Isabella... someone who offered Emma the opportunity to become just like her. but Emma isn't like her. Emma and Isabella, two humans, are fundamentally different. they could never see eye to eye. Andrew and his team terrorized their group and killed people that Emma mourned (it's really terrible that the writing couldn't reflect this because it's super important for this exact reason). half of Emma's biggest problems have been humans. but humans like herself, and Ray, and her siblings also exist. you can't claim to want to save all of humanity while thinking of them as a homogeneously good population. humans, as a group, are full of individuals, both good and bad. and likewise, you can't vow to eradicate all the demons as if they are a homogeneously evil population... the individuals within their population are just as varied and complicated.
      at this point, Emma can't really be characterized as naive... she knows all of the things that a person might say in response to her idealism, in order to dissuade her from it. she knows, and she still wants idealistic things. she's only gotten as far as she has by asking for the impossible, and then trying really hard until she and her family end up pretty near to what she wanted. she is idealistic through effort, in the face of reality, fully aware of how ridiculous her demands may be. in this way, she is stronger than both Ray and Norman. and Ray is the one who actually kind of realizes this, while Norman is probably still assuming that if he was ever going to help Emma get what she wanted, he'd be humoring her. the story up until they reunite with Norman was supposed to be proof that Emma was right about their plan to escape from Gracefield. it wasn't just luck, or a fluke... she was correct that they could do it, and the proof is that they did. Emma has what it takes to work for what she wants. she isn't frivolous. and Norman himself has to display, to her and Ray, what it is that he actually wants... because it's not going to go unchallenged.

    Honestly, Ray had been traumatized by the demons since he was born. I was expecting him to side with Norman because he is the logical and pragmatic one and would have realized that making all demons vegans was impossible. Also, it would show his relationship with Norman, you know, the other person for whom he risked his life. He could have been like "kill all of the demons, minus Sonju and Mujica and we are good fam". Instead, he got reduced to following Emma's lead. They straight up made him a side character.

      @@porky1118 As someone who watched/read both, definitely not. The anime took only the worst parts of the manga's final third and somehow made them even worse. Even though I agree with a lot of the criticisms laid out in this video, there were also a lot of good things in the manga that are not all mentioned or discussed here in this video. There are also things laid out as fact here that I think are more a matter of personal taste than actually objective points. And also there's "criticisms" that are just flat wrong or not fully though out. I wouldn't recommend taking this video as evidence of the anime being "better", and even recommend at least trying out the manga for yourself if you enjoyed the anime at all, because it is better and worth reading.

      @@HecateWitch13 To sum up what you said - Reading Manga is always a better experience than watching the anime. This needs no debate, it’s something that everyone agrees upon. However in this particular instance, the anime layout is not as frustrating as the manga layout; simply because people go in watching an anime expecting disappointment via bad writing maybe even crap writing, but manga is like the “book of a movie” to an anime, it’s supposed to contain everything, every single little detail of it or at least every important detail that contributes to the plot , which this manga failed to do. I’d say it was more rushed, cause it started of amazing, then went downhill, also never climaxed.

      The Promised Neverland Committee rewrote Season 2 of the anime. That is what director Mamoru Kanbe has been deciding since Season 1. But he couldn't rewrite Season 1 cause of several reasons (not allowed to change the story because Season 1 is the debut of the series). And if they changed too much, viewers might not buy the manga. Remember that anime adaptations are created to increase visibility of the manga (in other words, advertising the manga to increase manga sales).
      In TPN's case, TPN manga already ended last Spring 2020. After the manga ended on June 15, 2020, TPN director Mamoru Kanbe was allowed to rewrite so he can compress half of Volume 5 and Volumes 6-20 in Season 2.
      Why is he compressing? He is compressing so The Promised Neverland Committee can milk the profits from the manga that just finished last year, and so that any Season 1 anime DVD sales can increase. If Season 1 anime DVD increased, they are also hoping increased sales on Season 2 of the anime DVD this year.
      The Promised Neverland Committee invited mangaka Kaiu Shirai into the team AFTER the rewrite was already finished. He "supervised" the script and the series composition to supposedly ensure the core elements of TPN (mystery, suspense,) exist in the anime. (This isn't the actual reason, the real reason being strictly PR). But at the end of the day, he can't do any more than "supervising" and approving what has already been done (rewrote). He can't disagree with The Promised Neverland Committee's choices, because they're the ones who bought the rights to the story.
      The only benefit the Committee has from Shirai-sensei is his name. Put his name in the credits and manga fans are sure to follow and watch the first few episodes of Season 2. They are gonna be hyped (which is what we have all done) even before Season 2 of the anime premiered, especially because mangaka Kaiu Shirai's name is in the anime as in charge of series composition (hence, script supervision).
      But there are also Shueisha staff in the Committee. Shueisha is the publishing house that has rights to sell Shōnen Jump magazine (the magazine where The Promised Neverland used to be serialized on a weekly basis). Shueisha members in the Committee ensure that themes of "friendship, effort, victory" (Shonen Jump's motto) remain intact in Season 2 of the anime. (This isnt the sole reason the other reason is to ensure that the script is created in a particular way in regards to pacing and how much or how little effort and investment will be allocated, as well as how much time/episodes will be available ). So, director Mamoru Kanbe must take TPN manga themes, reuse them in the anime, and speed run by squeezing all these themes in 11 episodes.
      Budget is also a big factor. CloverWorks has been established for only over 2 years. They are releasing 3 anime series this Winter 2021 (Horimiya, The Promised Neverland, and Wonder Egg Priority). All the high quality animation that CloverWorks Studio is supposed to inject to "The Promised Neverland Season 2" (if it were getting a proper adaptation and following the manga) were reallocated to:
      "Horimiya" - a one-cour comedy and romantic anime series that fans have been waiting for 11 years since the webtoon premiered over a decade ago (and since its manga premiered 8 years ago)
      Wonder Egg Priority - a one-cour anime original that CloverWorks Studio is prioritizing because of its traumatic themes: (molestation, harassment, suicides, student-teacher relationships).

They all probably had such huge plans and plot twists, development they wanted to do, trauma to introduce, deaths to have meaning, moral dilemmas to be much more severe and frequent. It was probably the publisher who went "You got x amount of chapters and months to get it done soon. Ending and all. Then you're finished. Good luck." Which is so sad for the writer's because they'll most likely get the blame for how rushed and bad the story became.

As soon as they got to the base, it felt like Ray was being sidelined and Norman was religated to world building that didn't really matter. Like, Emma was a good character with good morals, but she was only made great by Ray and Norman having different perspectives on what was the best outcome.

    My favorite part of Isabella asking Emma if she wants to be a mother is where her hand is. Mom is always checking their left ear to make sure the tracker is intact, but in that scene she holds her right ear not out of caution but out of love. Mom believes Emma no longer wants to escape, so Mom isn’t worried about the tracker she is only worried about Emma’s well-being. She wants what she believes is best for her daughter. She wants her to take the only path known for her to live longer. So there is this sense of joy in Mom when she sees them escape. They are living in a new world thought to be unreachable, and that small little bit I believe is why Isabella was able to keep going, why she was able to become the next Grandma, she had hope again. She didn’t want to survive, she wanted to live.

He is honestly one of my favourite characters in all of anime just for how gret and complex he was in the earlier arcs, but I feel we should get a lot more of his relationship with Norman after they reunited and a more detailed and in character view on the problem. There is an extra chapter in the manga that explains why the mothers were on their side. Basically, Isabella convinced the rest of the moms in Grace Field to work with for her. She informed them of her plan and gave them a good reason to work with her; the demons had made them compete against each other for so long, when in reality it was them who they had to fight against. She also told them that their children were still alive (she knew because she was the grandma) and that they had a good chance at destroying the farm. To keep her word, she gave them a farewell note Ray had given her before leaving. She told them that if she broke their trust, they could take the note to the higher-ups and say that the reason she let the kids escape was because Ray was her son. So yeah, it wasn’t like the moms just sided with the kids so easily.

      Instead of creating a brilliant plan where things go wrong
      They create a off screen plan that may or may not make sense
      And where things go right instead of going wrong
      It's supposed to be about wit and cunning
      And taking every little aspect into consideration while planing
      Instead it's just
      "we made a plam to get into a place that is surrounded by 2000 soldiers
      With no way out"

    I think what I found most tragic about the Promised Neverland was that the children were absolute geniuses, but they were still just children. They came up with small-scale traps, childish plans, unrealistic hopes, and thought just like a child would. They were geniuses, but they weren't ready for the weight that fell on them.
    Every carefully thought out plan, lie, or action was easily read by the adults, which made this situation so heartwrenching.
    The children wanted to survive, to grow up, to protect their family but they were still not enough to stop the adults.

    • @dragonbricks7086

      True, but the main problem with this story was it did not have a good answer when one of the characters actually grew up and came up with actionable plans to fix the problem. ie. Norman. Norman's plan was good enough to stop the adults + monsters and their future threats. All the writer could come up with to change his mind was "because Emma said so".

    I'm pretty sure that EVERYONE can agree with me here that in the manga (after the children escaped Grace Field) Ray was only there because he showed up in the first season. Ray didn't have any opinions, he only agreed with other people's opinion and comforted everyone else. The only times he actually talked (Even just a little) was when it was just Emma and Ray in one place. For example, when Emma and Ray went in search of The Seven Walls. Ray seemed like a main character, we got to see why he was struggling and how tired he is, that he's human. Not just a emotional-support character for Emma.
    But after that happens, we hardly get him to talk again. (Also, notice how Ray only actually cries in one of the last chapters.) Most of the time, you'll see Emma and Norman talking-but mostly Emma- and Ray in the background. He was SUCH a big deal in the first season but after that, he blends in with the younger children who also escaped with Emma.

      It’s actually a much different reason. It has been confirmed that Kaiu Shirai wanted more time to tell the story of the promised Neverland, he predicted he needed at least 180ish chapters at a minimum to tell the story however he wanted more time for everything. When the story started declining popularity (not quality) shounen jump forced him to end it as soon as possible which meant he had to leave out key details and rush through events that he normally would’ve given more time to. We can clearly see through the bonus chapters that have since been released after the series ended that Shirai had extra detail and things he wanted to expand upon however he just wasn’t given the proper amount of time to do it which really sucks. I was hoping the anime would be able to add the extra details and fix the less good bits of the plot however season 2 has taken a considerable turn into shit and now all hope for a better version of the promised Neverland has been lost.

Since the promise 1000 years ago countless children were killed off to be used as food or a hunting sport like in goldy pond. It's just that we don't really see this , we have to deduce it from the setting of the story using logic.

But now everything has changed for them and even though Norman and Emma's plan to escape worked, their lives and goals from then on are completely different. This is a beautiful set up for an interesting character dynamic between Emma Ray and Norman, as their shared experiences at Grace Field House is contrasted to their situations and perspectives now. If they had rolled with this and given more time to these interactions it would have been so much more satisfying and I do agree that more time overall would have have been better too.

Just the dumb publishing agency wanted them to get it over with as quickly as possible and made her shorten the story by a lot making you not fully connect to the book. I bet it would have been one of the best mangas if the agency didn't make you feel like you were missing a lot of chapters and let her finish it on her own account. I think it would be touching if this is how it played out. They would just move on thinking that it's just a girl that looks similar to Emma and she would live the rest of her days with that man she met in the human world.

I was hoping it would be like AOT where we saw them offed 1 by 1, but unfortunately not only were the 3 main casts plot-armored, so was practically everyone else, even though there should have been conflict at every turn. The foreshadowing and world building was set up, the great conflicts and arcs were SO well set up and they just needed to take much more time and ACTUALLY have realistic conflict. It's like 2 different people wrote the first and second halves of the story. The SUPER rushed pace of the last 4 - 5 chapters are probably because the manga got axed and the author needed to wrap it up. Manga authors are usually given a 4 - 5 chapter notice that their manga is being cancelled/axed and that they'd need to finish up the story in any way possible. Which is why a lot of manga that have a small number of chapters always feel rushed at the very end.

The same reasoning would be applied here language itself is always an evolving art form the villager's would not be speaking Japanese. Relatively speaking yes Senkus (not) dad was Japanese, but when you all need to know English in order to be an Astronaut they all should know English + their native language not just Japanese/russian. So, relatively speaking the kids should have been taught English since it's a little easier to learn and the stories would not have made sense after some odd 1,000 years or so, let alone 5,000+ where they would be speaking Japanese/English or a language in combination to each other since a game of telephone itself destroys the meaning with like 20-30 people let alone the same stories being told over 5,000+ years or itself that the stories would keep their relative meaning or their intention. So, if it has real world science studying language in this aspect you can't have it one way or the other. I agree, and not only that, it would really give personality to those characters instead of being plot-driven NPCs that only do what Emma does. Emma is a pacifist that wants to save everyone, so it makes sense for her to go against killing demons, but those kids following her also grew up being food for demons, so surely they would have some conflicts, after all some of them most probably have their loved ones killed just because of those demons.

      I think it could've been good if the kids didn't die. BUT they have to DO SOMETHING, be CHARACTERS, not jsut be extensions of Emma's will.
      Good storytelling doesn't come from killing off characters. Good storytelling comes from DOING THINGS with said characters.

It’s like this dark story truly became a cliche shounen manga. I was pissed off half of the time reading the promise neverland and didn’t even bother watching season 2 (heard it was bad anyways lol)

    From start to finish, I really ended up disliking Emma more and more to the point where I was just hoping that the story had the most tragic ending possible to spite her. Despite being extremely idealistic and naïve, she always ended up getting an outcome that was in her favor, even if it didn't necessarily make much sense at all. The lack of turmoil and the ease which Emma was able to survive and reach the best possible outcome for herself time and time again just made me sick. It seemed that with her will alone, Emma was bending the outcome of the story to her own desire, manifesting a greater influence over the plot than even the infamous talk no jutsu.
    At the start of the story, my favorite character was Ray, because he wasn't just realistic, but considerate and cunning; he was precise and determined. By the end, Emma sapped the "main" out of Ray's character, leaving him as simply a "character." He began to have even less and less influence over the plot than the side characters and went from an independent and stubborn thinker to another yes-man for Emma's whims without any sufficient development in the story to explain this drastic change.
    And I like how the author kills off a couple of important characters to make it seem like there are stakes, but in reality, there are none. Emma runs the show, and everybody else is there to meet her ridiculous expectations.
    Considering how long it took the author to write the first arc, maybe he should've given it more time polishing the story before making this manga. I feel like there was so much to explore and better ways to progress the story than we were given, but there just wasn't enough; time, chapters, or depth.

    To be fair, I barely noticed all these obvious flaws at the end of the story, I just rushed through to discover what kind of deal Emma made, what she had to sacrifice. Now that I look at them, they are too big to just overlook them. It certainly wasn't told in a good way. But there was still something. It kinda gave me hope. Sure, Emma didn't go through hardly any change at all and the ending was way more happy than it should've been. But from an emotional point of view, I liked it. Emma and the ending wasn't really a character or a story anymore. It was more like the picture of an ideal. And it made me happy to see that. To see the unwavering believe in healing, peace and hope. To go even against destiny itself. And so on. But of course that doesn't excuse the crappy storytelling and the lack of character arcs.

      I agree with the concept you expressed about the concept of unwavering believing in healing, peace and hope. Many people in this comment section seem so hellbent over the fact that it should have ended badly, or somewhat badly, possibly with Emma giving up on her hope or her ideals. It just irks me the wrong way.
