INFO: This i probably one of the weirdest bands that i’ll ever come to talk about in this video series. Black Flag’s vocalist Henry Rollins love them, Spongebob Squarepants universe was inspired by one of their albums and they’re also the only band that i’ve heard of that feature a demon god as their logo. In this video i’ll give you a brief introduction to the world of Ween.

My favorite thing about Ween is how difficult it is to describe it to someone who's never heard of it. Cause it's not just that they tackle a bunch of different genres, but it's also hard to get across how every song both sounds like it was made from an entirely different band but at the same time every Ween song feels exactly like a song Ween would write.
I love Ween. They also made the greatest country ablum ever.

@@kellphil76 YES! Powder Blue is the pinnacle of the album, and should/would be considered an all time great, if more people were exposed to it. "I Don't Wanna Leave You on the Farm" is a very close 2nd... with "You Were The Fool" right behind that to round out the top 3 (at least top 3 straight forward mainstream-ish songs)
"Japanese Cowboy" "Piss up a Rope" "Mister Richard Smoker" & "Help Me Scrape the Mucus off My Brain" are all amazing also... but in a full tilt Ween way.
@@sschofield115 agreed Powder Blue was a great track. Just wish the original version with the Mohammad Ali interview did not get dropped....that was a stroke of brilliance imho.

Been listening to them since I was a teenager in the late 90's. Will forever be one of my favorite bands. I think they are a hard door to walk through for most people but once you do you there is nothing else like it.
The only song I heard from them was "I'll be your Johnny on the spot" from a snowboard video I had in hs. Just last night I started to listen to them. It took me 37 years but I've been listening to them for 24 hrs and their sense of humor is unlike anything I've experienced from musicians.
It's a shame because I think "Gabrielle" could considered an all great rock song and get the ssme amount of play "The Boys Are Back In Town" does.
"Even If You Don't" "Baby Bitch" "Tried and True" "Buckingham Green" "She's Your Baby" and so many more should be recognized for the amazing pieces of music they are... it's just a shame they don't have the visibility they truly deserve.
You nailed it. It was watching ween live in Chicago that did it for me. And then seeing my first ween show really sent me over the edge. They have become my favorite band, so good.

I find it funny how I was drawn in by GodWeenSatan, and instead of being alienated by its bizarre and chaotic sound, I was instantly hooked by it.
I think it helped for me that my friends and I found them while we were fun guy's hanging out with Lady-25....Seriously, So Many People in the Neighborhood can be tripped on for hours...

Had the privilege of seeing ween live a few times....cannot put into words just how good they are.....the atmosphere, the crowd, the music....second to none.
I finally saw them for the 1st time in Atlanta last weekend (both shows). Absolutely mind-bogglingly amazing!!! 2 of the greatest shows I've ever seen.
And the fact that you never know what they'll play adds another level of excitement. They played 71 different songs over those 2 nights, and still didn't play a lot of my favorites!!!

Ween may be silly, goofy, rediculous. But underneath the comedy wacky shit, those boys are some of the most serious players ive ever seen. Holy fuck can they play. In their late 40s/50s and still play 3 1/2 hr shows with no opener. These guys are no fucking joke and are quite possibly the greatest band of all time.....and they gave us spongebob

I remember watching this video when it came out. Previously only knowing "Ocean Man" from the Sponegbob Movie. I decided to give Ween a listen after watching this video.
Since then I have seen Ween live 4 times and would consider them one of my favorite bands now. So thank you for this video for introducting me to one of my favorite bands
You forgot to mention that they're one of the best live bands ever and they can turn any of their songs into a 30 minute extravagant masterpiece.

I've been a Ween fan since 93 and I still come to watch the video of brief introduction to LOL. Anything with Ween on it I watch because they are my absolute favorite band in the whole world. I spent and chunks of my life only listening to Ween.
I discovered Ween through Spongebob and man they are such an oddly awesome band!
My favorite albums by them is the Mollusk and 12 Golden Country Greats (Since i love old school Country-Western music and that album combines it with Ween’s weirdness!)
That Rollins' clip is pure gold. He goes on to talk shit about Nitzer Ebb. With that specific kind of disdain that is specifically Rollins.

Saw Ween in 2000 because they were on just before Muse at Reading festival. Had no idea what was going on but I remember I enjoyed it a bit

I’ve often said that Ween would be considered one of the most influential rock bands of my lifetime if anyone took them as seriously as they took themselves ridiculously.
Spongebob was a major part of my childhood and I remember that line in the show. I didn't understand what it meant when I watched it as a kid. I believe it's the episode where Spongebob navigates through the different dreams of other characters. As he's leaving Gary's dream Gary (in English speaking librarian form) tells him to mind his wandering eye. Very cool

it feels like ween, lemon demon, tally hall, and others are bands that people know about, but only one song e.g ocean man, 2 trucks/touch tone telephone, and ruler of everything, and it's kinda sad seeing people that know about that one song, but not knowing what greatness lies in their fingertips
I told my friend about Ween in high school and he just laughed at me and said "What's a ween?", so 5 years later I get a message from dude saying that he loves ween and thanking me for introducing them to him.

Basically, if you find yourself laughing after the first verse of "Strap on that jammy pac", then you should enjoy the rest of it. It also helps if you've laughed along albums like We're Only In It for the Money =]

Regarding the fact that they are not even really well-known after appearing in SpongeBob, it is rather like a miracle that Stephen Hillenburg even knew them already in the 90s! Lol
12 golden country greats is an amazing parody of country music. I really don't like country, but I do like this album quite a lot, and I have to wonder how the great session musicians they hired had to feel about some of the lyrics.

My favorite(and only ween song I ever listened to for a long time) song by ween was "it's gonna be a long night" I heard off a Tony Hawk game back in the day, I've listened to that song for years, and then one day I was listening to country/bluegrass and heard "Scrape the the mucus off my brain" and was very confused as to the band that wrote it.. this band is strange, love it. And now I'm learning they wrote songs for spongebob???

Remember pushing up daisies on the radio, then years later bought the country album because a mate had it and the music and lyrics gelled, so subversively. Was doing manual work whistling piss up a rope and a new guy asked if I was doing Ween? He recommended Chocolate and cheese and he was a great guy so I got into that. They’ve done so much different stuff, they are the pastiche masters as well as proper weird musos.
I've listened to Ween since I was 13, and i'm 32 now. I used to watch Winamp TV and there was a channel called "Ween TV." I've listened to every album a lot of the B-Sides, it's still one of my favorite bands, even though I have overplayed them for myself.
never heard this band prior to 2012...but they've become my fave of the weird, next to the buttholes. wide range of muzaky-wackyness, most pleasing to the ear. highly recommended.
