Ive fallen in and out of favor with Meshuggah many times since then but i would not have the eclectic taste that i do now without this mans riffage soothing my teenage angst meanwhile opening my eyes to jazz fusion and heady electronic music. Finally caught them live again for the first time in years a couple months ago; it was really special getting to see Fred lead the pack again, and they’ve become so much more appreciated now by many, getting the support and extra talent they’ve always deserved to push their show into a total spectacle. Honestly a dream come true to see a childhood favorite caught in a dingy Cleveland bar come to life in such epic proportion on the big stage as

    As good as Immutable was, I felt like it was lacking something. I couldn't quite work out what it was. Yes, it had grooves. But the grooves weren't grooving like they were in other albums like Chaosphere, I, Catch 33, Nothing, and Obzen. I felt like they were missing that raw, tribal aggression. The hypnotizing power of a feverish trance. I now know why.
    According to Mårten Hagström, "The last album [Fredrik] really wrote for was Obzen".
    This explains SO much.
    The last Meshuggah album I truly loved was Obzen. After that, I felt like Meshuggah never again captured that aggressive, tribal sound that made them stand out so much again.
    Hearing this song now, I understand where it came from. It was Fredrik. Man, I miss his influence in the band. Immutable was good, but it sounded almost like it was written by a band that was trying to be Meshuggah. I really hope Fredrik rejoins. Does anyone know why he left? And does anyone know if he's spoken about rejoining?
    Many of these comments mention that he might be dropping a solo project? Does anyone know how likely this is?
    This song slapped so hard. The production is also insanely powerful. I loved it!

      Fredrik is back with the band touring Immutable. He also did the solos on the album. Fredrik left because he wanted to build a new studio and work on a new solo album.

    • @boingdaman
      @boingdaman 10 месяцев назад

      Yeah I hear you man, but that's the triplets you're hearing. Okay so counting the 4/4 is 1: Bass drum 2: snare 3: BD 4: snare in 72 bpm. 4/4 = 4, 8, 16 or 32 bars right? If you count this way, the different parts (verse, chorus) adds up to 4, 8, 16 etc. The chorus for instance; every 1 is marked with Fredrik going up an octave. Also the cymbals in the verse mark every 4th or 8th bar or whatever. I see what you mean though, but it's the 3/4 waltz kinda groove that confuses the time signature with the rhythm. I don't really know how else to explain it. 100% 4/4

    When I first heard the demo of the Area 33 SDX, I didn't really like the sound of the drums much, but then they released the video with this song and it all made much more sense. Those kicks sound absolutely crushing when used in the right circumstances. Might have to give Area 33 another go!

    Someone tell me why Fredrik doesn't release more music, Meshuggah, solo or otherwise. I find that his input is integral in Meshuggah for me; it just has not been the same since he took a backseat in songwriting for the band. I mean no disrespect to Meshuggah but I could almost forgo the last 3 or so albums just to have more Fredrik. The excitement and actual listening experience on the last few albums have suffered greatly IMO because of his lack of prominence in the band. Probably an unpopular opinion but I think Haake AND Fredrik are the heart of the band and everything after Obzen just feels like an EP without the mind-bending influence and groove he brings.

      I think Dick and Marten are still carrying forward the gigantic legacy of Meshuggah, but you are right in a way. Fredrik is unmatchable in certain aspects of songwriting, you just know it is him even if he never repeats the same stuff. I just feel Fredrik is in a whole different league altogether, he has transcended Meshuggah. Meshuggah are still my favorite band, but Fredrik is just godlike.

      bruh demiruge, by the ton, clockworks , the demons name, born in dissonance , arguably the grooviest heavy tracks in the catlogue , but honestly every meshuggah song is the best so rankings are pointless, but the
      part isn't greater then the whole lol

    • @musicman9901
      @musicman9901 Год назад

      @@baileyhawk5158 All the songs you mention miss that prog/thrash balance from earlier in their career which I'm very fond of. I agree demons and clockworks are probably some of the better tracks from their respective albums but as a whole, everything after 2008 seemed to be missing something for me. When I found out Fredrik stepped back in the band I was able to conclude that this was the major element that was missing, for me. I literally love pretty much every track starting back at the Meshuggah ep in '89 up until Obzen in 2008. Their early odd time signature/Metallica sound thing in the early years and the experimental era from Nothing to Catch 33 are my favourite and have many of my favourite metal tracks ever. I don't dislike Meshuggah now but I stopped buying their albums after Koloss; it just wasn't worth it to have one song like "they move below" and pay full album price for the rest of the songs I will probably rarely revisit after first checking them out. I'm glad people have gotten into Meshuggah but they just aren't the same to me after Obzen blew up. I like that album but it was a turning point in their sound.
