I think the formula for making videos is not so much the length of the video as the level of fun you have making it. One thing is certain: if you're having fun, then we are having fun.
That TRS80 model 2 is quite a rare and collectible machine, not to mention valuable! Anything 1970's computing related goes for serious money no matter what the condition.
As a vintage computer collector, that TRS-80 Model II is a great find, especially with the external harddrive! The Model II uses the even bigger and older 8" floppy drives. Definitely a good score there.
That's a nightmare I wish I hadn't woken up to... 8" 1mb floppy disks... There were still a few of those old sleeves laying around when I first came into the IT world in the 90's, but the hardware was long gone. Still actively used 5.25-3.5 disks on some systems. The military was weird in that it would hold on to old tech waaaaay past its practical applications.
34:37 I believe that this is a compressed air operated fan. It is used for if you want air flowing in a flammable environment. I've seen them used when people were working inside of tanks and they didn't want any electrical tools in there. I am quite sure that those fittings are for air.
You sir are an absolute GEM of a guy! Your wealth of extensive DIY Knowledge is incredible! Making nothing into something "useable!". Hats off. We need more like you
Never hurry......These videos are fun when they come out. Love the way you find the similarities in parts that were used on different machines and trucks back in the day. Very very cool.
those glass tubes in the black plastic are dragger gas tester tubes. the end balls are snapped off and a specific volume of gas is drawn through using a measured size syringe device. the gas will react with the powder in the tube causing a color change. the amount of change can be read as ppm or other useful scale. It looks similar to a thermometer, just look for the top of the color line and read the number next to it
Right on on the Draeger tubes. They were used in mines & I used them on haz waste sites to check for various gases. The special telephones are/were heavy duty emergency units for use in mines & other industrial areas.
Oh my god, I would be shocked if there wasn't some super rare old tech sitting in those trailers at the mine that hobbyists have been looking for for a long time. That's a gold mine of retro stuff.
The TRS-80 alone is interesting. Hope he doesn't just plug it right in because that would likely ruin it very quickly. Power supply test first with a small automotive lightbulb plugged into the 5v output first.
That's a bummer that you had theft. It's really cool that you scored all that "gold" at the mine. One mans junk is another mans treasure. Because of all those projects, the future is bright for us..lol Awesome channel 👍👍
34:26, those are stain tubes. They attach to a hand operated plunger, you draw a sample of a gas through them and read the concentration. Common brand names are kiti gawa, and draeger.
Specifically, those were made by Dräger in Germany for measuring nitrogen dioxide. New ones are about 100$ for a box like that, but I probably wouldn’t rely on those anymore - there is a sternly worded „do not use past“ warning in German on them …
That Koehler charging unit at 35:50 or so is a mining cap light charging set up. Coal miners use the same type work lights underground. A good battery would usually run about 10-11 hours or so.
OMG! Thank You for opening your "new" trailer and sharing that with us. Even if you SCRAP anything that is on your property, and heavy and metal, beyond resurrection, it still ADDS to your project money. Win Win! I'll bet you are going to find many things that will still be serviceable. 50 HP electric motor? Wow! (Lots-O-Copper and magnets?).
I never thought that these old cars we see in the background could actually be a project on the channel, I thought it was something personal or that it had already been done, I'm glad that we're going to see these projects at some point!
Those electronics and clothes in the trailers alone should fetch a good amount. The inner packrat in me is aching to see what's under those mountains of stuff. I LOVE to dig through piles of "trash" like that just to learn what stuff is, find neat old things, or just look at how the rats have torn stuff apart. Neat!
The yellow box named "Rhine Air" should be a fan powered by compressed air so you don't have to use an electric motor to get air into the mine. Electric motors make sparky-go-boom-booms. You're already running a compressor to run the drills so... makes sense. Good sense.
The half track truck (Frankenstein) is one of the ones I most look forward to seeing finished. The last half track you built was already sensational, a modified one like this one now is really something
I was just wondering what was going on with the mine. Now I know! It figures that most of the 'junk' would be left behind. All the better deal for you (less the actual garbage).
Those floppy discs bring back bad memories. I was taught on an IBM 8086 with NO hard drive. It had an external cassette tape deck for data storage. I never did discover anything it was useful for. But we did get a Tandy color computer at home,.complete with dual.5 1/4 inch floppies. At least a guy could play a game..
Oh my you have hours upon hours of entertainment in those trailers going through all the treasure in there. Oh how I'd love to be there while you go through all that.
You sir combine 4 of my favorite channels. Matt’s off-road recovery, for your off roading, CEE Australia, for your engineering and machining, Australian Armour and Artillery, for your half tracks, and Engels Coach Shop for your Jeep covered wagon.
36 year old here, i definitely remember the FLOPPY floppies, i've had a computer in my home since like third grade. Man, I would have, SO much fun exploring an old property like this!
Hi James I’ve been following your channel from the beginning, about six years now and I still love your content. It’s always interesting and you keep it fun and it looks like there’s plenty more to come so I just wanted to say thanks so much. Cheers mate, Stuart 🇦🇺
41:09 - Those look like draw tubes used for testing for presence of stated chemical. They are used in a small pump that draws a specified amount of "air" through them. We use some like that that are branded Dreager. Can't read the brand on those.
Your next project needs to be installing security cameras and barbwire. The low buck mine turned into a gold mine.Youve got alott of usable stuff and salvage, and alott of useless junk and trash.Im calling that a win! Those phones are mine phones or intercoms. The charging panel is for chargeing miners helmet lamps.
I am sure there is a lot of junk in the trailers but at least 50 years of fun! Looks like you will be busy this year and I am looking forward to the vids. 😃👍👍
This is now officially my favorite car channel, your humor is great and I like your attitude to soloing problems, you're also obviously a very competent mechanic. I'm currently building a 1990 Audi 80 quattro with a 1.8T engine that would be right up your street, so far I've spent less than £500 on the car and parts by reusing stuff I have left knocking about and getting things very cheap or free second hand. The only thing I've still got to buy is new bearing shells and crank seals for the bottom end I got given due to a failing oil pump..
That trailer with the toys looked pretty awesome. Even the plywood baby doll furniture and beat-up Mickey umbrella could find a collector. I'd give you ten bucks for the Barbie camper, as is, but I don't have a way to come and haul it off. Be a funny piece to keep on top of your garage shelves or cabinets, though.
Can't wait for your upcoming video's... love every one you've made so far. I can see you have a lot of fun coming up in your future and for all your viewers. Thank you for being you! ✌
Thank goodness that trailer was locked up so well. You wouldn’t want that article about, “Paleozoic formations of the mosquito range” just out there for anyone to take. Consider yourself blessed!
One of my customer made a wooden frame painted it black ran pipe work and covered with old patio doors , he placed it on garage roof , piped to a storage tank to a circulator free heat .he used glycol and it needs a pressure relief valve
Placing my guess here, that “transmitter” thing with the multiple lenses looks to be maybe a visual landing indicator for planes to judge if they’re in the right trajectory. 🤷🏻♂️ just weird enough to have ended up on your property 😂
You are the perfect guy to inherit all this junk! I'm sure you'll put it to good use and there's some treasures in there for sure. Can't wait for the content!
Yeah that reefer trailer would make a great place where you can even set up a little house or a shop and stay nice and warm and toasty and then get some solar stuff hooked up to power all the rest of the stuff
There would be absolutely no way I would leave the last trailer unopened and go home.. You're a lucky guy mate, I bet you were super excited to have a rummage through all that gear. 🤓
A couple of comments on the one trailer, the tubes in the toolbox are for testing air. The “phones “ are for communication underground. The “charger” is for charging cap lamps for light that you wear on your hard hat underground
For that Jeep Liberty diesel, I wonder if you could make a TDI style rotary pump work That same type of pump was also used on the 2.5 diesel that came in the XJs in Europe, and finding the mechanical version shouldn't be too terribly difficult
you could put a bigger wheel on the windmill to increase RPM also needs a steel frame and better bearings. maybe you can get some scrap steel to make the frame. Also you could put another on top to catch more wind.
Wow lots of good stuff in those trailers. Really looking forward to video when you start pulling all that out and get a good look. Love all your videos keep them coming. Having lots of fun on my projects too.
I'm so glad you got to keep the treasures at the Low-Buck mine! You could spend years just sorting and creating. I am still looking forward to when you create your time machine...or did you already create it and these are just old videos?
@Low-Buck Garage ... Love all your vids, watching with interest here in Wales, UK. Apart from your excellent hands on mechanical aptitude, I love the totally negative positive humour. E.g. "Got this alternator here, everything is totally wrong with it, so I'm going to use it" Side splitting stuff !!
Speaking of the Trailers, park them side by side or at rightangles and build a deck to join them' Then you have accomodation on site; you could even rent it out for 'Tourist Scrappers' ! Make Munny LOL
Use a motor out of an old computer printer for a small permanent magnet generator. They work great and would not be too great of a load for your windmill. And it looks like you have an old printer in that locked trailer that would have the perfect motor
Those pipettes in the last toolbox might be to check for toxic gas. Looks like you got a great bonus - especially for a junk yard Da Vinci like yourself.
I love this video. On your out of town property, there is so much stuff that it’s going to keep you busy for a long time. Keep them coming and I look forward to seeing the next one. 😊
Suggestion: For the Windmill to increase the power, one could add another barrel to the top, increasing the drive area, however; I might try adding two extra rotors one on each side of the current Windmill, belted to each other and then that would be a common drive for the Alternator.
You can connect the siren to the wind turbine, that way the whole town will know how strong the wind is blowing.
ты хулиган! )))
They would be so grateful! "Honey, how hard is the wind blowing?" *husband listens, "Pretty hard, it seems. The siren is pretty loud."
Hahaha
Great idea! I definetly want to hear that siren!
So it'd go eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee most the time, but sometimes EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
For us viewers you buying an old mine is like 30 years of epic content hahaha!!
+1
100%
Did he get the mine or the shaft
I think the formula for making videos is not so much the length of the video as the level of fun you have making it. One thing is certain: if you're having fun, then we are having fun.
Your channel is one of my favorites. I always look forward to what your up to.
@@jerryenebak204 Ditto from AUS
Please do videos when you clean out the trailers. I find that very interesting.😊
Ditto!
Absolutely agree, I'd love to see what other hidden gems might be under all this stuff, with what's already visible!
Lol...this bloke doesn't do " cleaning out "
Same here!
I agree.

Words cannot describe how I feel about a thief.
Amen.

I hate thiefs .

Love the way you find the similarities in parts that were used on different machines and trucks back in the day. Very very cool.
Man, sorry to hear someone stole your stuff! Love the crazy projects you come up with!
I think the DC motors from a treadmill would work for a generator, you might be able to find one of those for free.
those glass tubes in the black plastic are dragger gas tester tubes. the end balls are snapped off and a specific volume of gas is drawn through using a measured size syringe device. the gas will react with the powder in the tube causing a color change. the amount of change can be read as ppm or other useful scale. The $2 Jeep has to be one of the most fascinating projects I've ever seen, I hope to see it finished soon, or at least "finished".
The tiny snowman....priceless! The serious Jeep winch recovery effort! Also epic!
Those electronics and clothes in the trailers alone should fetch a good amount. The inner packrat in me is aching to see what's under those mountains of stuff. I LOVE that Sailboat Flat Head Four!! Nice!
All the old tech at the mine is super rad to this IT guy! Love all the upcoming projects!
Turn that 231 transfercase up side down. Plug the vent. Put an elbow on the fill with a piece of clear tubing to monitor the oil level.

Me too its crazy and funny seeing a kinda looking half Dodge Van with a Half track frame i its just so crazy but thats why i love Low Buck Garage
I have an injection pump off a four cylinder JD genset that might work for you free of charge. Thanks for the explaination on the wind turbine!

hi , on your lathe , check the jibs adjustment , you might be able to tighten them up some . check both cross and linier adjustment .
New favorite episode. Nothing I love more than rooting around through “junk”. Had butterflies in my gut the whole time.
That Miller TIG welder is a major score if it's any good
What could be wrong with it that James could not fix? In other words, 'it works".
