This is amazing who ever put these out. I'm 66 years old and have decided to learn french because I just found out my birth mother was born in a little fishing village. So I took up french with Duolingo, but just the one was is not enough and was told to do things like this. Nothing seems so go as this because it uses most of your senses to learn and real life stories that you can go over and over with the beautiful artwork in these. I can't afford on pension to pay for regular classes. This is the most calming way to learn. Thank you so very much. Bless you.
Duolingo feels so slow and the sentences have no context. I think it was actually holding me back. Stories like this are perfect, each sentence has a purpose and you know why you are learning them - to understand the story!
Le texte en général n’est clairement pas niveau A1, mais pour ce qui est du passé simple je trouve ça pas mal que les apprenants y soient exposés tôt, comme ça quand ils le verront dans un livre ils ne vont pas se dire “WTF is this???”
I’m not sure why the story is told in passé simple instead of passé compose . I taught French for 36 years and it’s rarely used and taught in USA at the end of French 3 so students can read literature in level 4. I was in France in November and didn’t hear it once .
It’s a literature verb tense that has not been spoken since the 1700’s by the litterati . Imagine in English Where goith John instead of where is John going . As a French Teacher and someone that travels there 3 times a year , I would teach present time and not start it out Once upon a time . I’d only do that so people could use what they learn today in a French Speaking country tomorrow . It is a super cute story and interesting vocabulary but the verbiage is archaic. Most reading the story want to learn French and we who teach it obviously love it !
Do it! I did the same and have been part of a French Conversation Group for many years. Our group is not a teaching group. It's a practice group. Look in your area for groups. I'm positive you'll find one. 😊 if you are in a large city, look into L'Aliance Française.
I am 77 years young have a passion for all things French. Have lost high school and college French... my dream is to return to Paris for the opening of Notre Dame... i doubt I will climb the 267 steps to the top as I did so many years ago... remember it like it was yesterday...these lessons are fantastic. Merci❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
This is a lovely way to improve one’s French. The pace is great. The additional vocabulary is readily picked up. The illustrations are beautiful and aid understanding. Keep up the good work. I am from Perth WA and am a Francophile, even though I only ever got to spend three days in Paris.
I LOVE this way of learning, especially stories with scenarios that one might encounter - like traveling by train and exploring a city. Being able to replay this video has really helped me get an ear for the language. Thank you for such high-quality educational content!
Awesome video. However, the narrator makes me sleepy. Oh boy... he should narrate according to the scene in the story. The story talks about the excitement Martin feels arriving to the city, but the narrator sounds like Martin is about to cry. Anyway, thanks for the lesson, it's been very helpful.
This, for me someone who needs visuals as well as vocal prompts, really does appreciate this learning style. Very nice idea to aid learning new languages. Well done and very much appreciated!! Thank you...
We don’t need the spoken English. We all know written English. Adding the spoken slows it down and interrupts the brain from absorbing French. Plus he sounds like he’s producing a sleep video.
Just came across this and I've subscribed. The lessons are great for me. Thank you for putting it together. I hope there are lessons for B1, B2, C1 and C2 also.
I am an eternal admirer of French because it is a beautiful language, but I also study English because it is super practical. So this video for me is Sensational. Thank you. Merci beaucoup
Love this style of learning. It helps with learning new words and sentences but alxo give a real time conversation so I could get how fast a real french conversation is spoken.
I'm in the USA. I've been studying French for four years. I have attended three separate immersion programs in France over the past two years. Two of the programs were three weeks long and one program was a week long. Not one of the the immersion programs taught, spoke about, or used the Passé Simple. In addition to the three immersion programs, I have been studying French online in private lessons with a French tutor, who is located in France, for four years. The Passé Simple has never been discussed. As such, I do not find your video useful. Sorry.
Knowing passé simple is essential to read 90% of books written in French!! Even books aimed at children can use it depending on the genre. If you are not interested in French literature (like Albert Camus) or literature in French (like Harry Potter translated in French) then it’s ok to avoid it, just learn the passé simple of être (je fus, tu fus, il fut…).
It might surprise the heck out of you that Martine IS Martin in French. Adding an "e" doesn't change his gender in French!!! It's only because you are hard-wired to gender rules in English that you would assume so.
Now that I am fluent in both Portuguese and English, I find French a lot easier than before. - 😊Maintenant que je parle couramment le portugais et l’anglais, je trouve le français beaucoup plus facile qu’avant.. - Agora que falo português e inglês fluentemente, acho o francês muito mais fácil do que antes.
This general format is good, but the English translation is poor. Most notably, and frequently, the English equivalent of the French 'Martin' is not 'Martine', which is a girl's name , but 'Martin' - same spelling, but slightly different pronunciation to the French version. Also, for example, for 'finalement', in English one would not normally say the train 'ultimately' reached the city, but more likely 'finally' or 'eventually'.
Very nice. The English subtitles were helpful, although the writing (I think) is plenty. Hearing English, on the back of French, was a distraction to being able to absorb the French. I am making an attempt to block that part, each time, from my mind..so I can (try) to keep with the mindset of the French😊
I started learning french in fourth grade and fell in love instantly. ❤ I took it again in high school and loved every minute of it. ❤ I will continue to study and learn french for as long as I live, because it is such a beautiful language. I am studying with a French tutor online at present and these stories are very helpful. Thank you so much!!
The verbs should be highlighted and defined. The nouns are always done. Modtofthe nouns we already know. A verb deficiency is at the root of the learner’s difficulty forming complete thoughts and ideas.
Nicely narrated and beautiful pictures however the translation in English is not always accurate eg: Martine or Martina instead of Martin or Greenfields instead of green fields. I would not say that this is a story for beginners, maybe for intermediates. I'm fluent in both languages so I will sent this video to my own grown up kids and see how they fare. Thanks.
Martine is not Martin. You seem to be using the tense of literature which doesn’t help learners. The concept is great but needs a review. One thing that frustrated me when learning is that I wanted a word by word translation, but everyone does a general translation. So for La maison rouge …’ I wanted ‘the house red…’ not ‘the red house’. When learning that would be more helpful.
1. Il s’est préparé rapidement. 2. Il a observé des montagnes lointaines, des rivières sinueuses et des gratte-ciel s’élevant vers le ciel. 3. Matin a fasciné par des gratte-ciels modernes aux b**âtiments historiques.**
