IFAK, 2 tourniquets, Glock and a few mags, flashlight, multitool, maybe comms. You don’t need all that for a quick bag. You’re going to stop and put on gloves and eyepro and chest rig you’re making yourself a target. Being physically fit is more important than all your gear

In an emergency, cell towers are likely to be flooded with people trying to make calls. Instead of trying to make a phone call for yourself, I'd try sending a small text message. Texts take up far less bandwidth than a call and have a higher chance of getting through.
Another tip. If you keep a bag in your car/truck, don't just toss it on the back seat. You will at some point get smashed and grabbed. Conceal or hide that bag the best you can. Get a blanket the same color as your interior and cover it at a minimum.
Nothing like pointing a loaded pistol at your own hand and carrying rifle mags for a rifle you didn't bother carrying. You seem to bet your and your wife's life on old cheap equipment you had lying around. Nothing you have in your kit is so esoteric that you can "guarantee you don't have it your kit". More like there is no point in carrying mags for rifle you dont have. Ummm just so it’s not me but the systems check with the pistol made me cringe. Pointing the weapon at your hand to check the light and covering the barrel with your hand coming in to do the press check is not good gun safety. If you was in a real emergency you could have made the situation much worse really fast.

I’m showing what I would do. 15+ years of high level high risk shooting and never had one ND. Just left a shoot house earlier today. Zero issues and passed the final top of the class. I’ve been in many many situations involving active shooters, hostile conditions and stuff you don’t even want to know about. Have never “made anything worse”

Come from some one that has thousands of hours as a fire arms instructor and have seen how fast it can go south because of silly mistakes its not good habits to do things like that even if you have 15 or even 50 years of experience. As an instructor and any one of my other colleagues who are all military instructors would have pulled a person off line for checking there weapon like that. Even at the highest levels of the military they don’t check there weapon like that and there is no instructor that sees something like that and should be okay with it. It’s not good for people who have less experience to see things like that and think thats how it should be done.

been a prep for 35 plus years .... ex recce guy , I too carry a bag build for easy and minimum gear to get home, then a bag to head to the retreat, (one of two homesteads). These are part of a modular system of bags with coms etc.. Our "MAG" also has sops and movement details security , etc etc etc

My family knows when shtf to go to are safe area in the country.its everyone's responsibility to get their if there's time..they all keep certain items in the trunks of their cars..most of are survival needs are already at are safety location..less to worry about when we go..if there's time your wife should be able to get to you or your safe place..if there's no time then your probley fd and wherever your at is where you will have to stay..travel will be banned quickly..

This guys going to plow his truck into a tree or an oncoming car while looking at the camera instead of the road and without that seatbelt on he’s a goner. Your loved ones are probably perfectly capable of walking out of work, getting in their cars, and going home. Of course the things in my bag aren’t what are in his bag, my bag is tailored to me and my situation. Yeah, the pointing the gun at your hand thing isn’t ideal, but it’s a controlled situation and his finger isn’t anywhere near the trigger, so not a big deal to me. My bag contents: small IFAK, Swiss Army Knife, small flashlight, extra battery for flash light, a snack, 16 oz bottle of water. My situation: I live in a super safe, small college town where nothing ever happens. Work is a 5 minute walk from home. Most threats are weather related stuff. Had to spend an extra half hour at work yesterday do to the threat of a tornado. I was glad I had a snack in my bag.

Ok but the real shtf would be more of an emp, wont be a car radio, phone or even a car working if that happens. And it seems more and more possible to emp the US than any other preemptive strike. Granted if its just riots then that could be harsh trying to avoid those areas depending on your route, also let your kids and wife know how to plan and be ready and teach them to know what to do when things go sideways or if thing's collapse completely.
My wife and i have a plan ready to get the kids and meet up at tbe house if we cannot make it we have a secondary location... now bad part we work on downtown but on the edge of it..
Wow no way, under such a situation there would be no reason to gi joe out unless you lived in a terribly high risk area which would more than likely make you a target. A concealed piece would get a wife and kids home if that was even needed. You'd be better off making sure you had walking shoes for you and the wife, a collapsible wagon if you have small children, clothing for any weather situations, water and something of nutrition in your pack all in case you have to walk it out.

I had to hunker down and wait out a tornado threat while at work last night. I was glad I always pack something to snack on and a water bottle with me. Mostly we need to be prepared for minor medical stuff or storms.

You can’t legally transport AR’s in Massachusetts unless they are in a separate locked container with a trigger lock or cable lock. Sometimes you need to read between the lines and listen to what I’m saying.

been a prep for 35 plus years .... ex recce guy , I too carry a bag build for easy and minimum gear to get home, then a bag to head to the retreat, (one of two homesteads). These are part of a modular system of bags with coms etc.. Our "MAG" also has sops and movement details security , etc etc etc
You're right. I don't carry much of that crap in my "mission" bag. I don't carry extra mags for a weapon I don't have. I don't carey a radio because I'm not going to be communicating with my " homies". My bag has bare necessities. I wouldnt be waiting for the government's emergency broadcast. My wife and i will be together long before the broadcast. 3 kinda of people: those that make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who wonder what the hell just happened. My family knows when shtf to go to are safe area in the country.its everyone's responsibility to get their if there's time..they all keep certain items in the trunks of their cars..most of are survival needs are already at are safety location..less to worry about when we go..if there's time your wife should be able to get to you or your safe place..if there's no time then your probley fd and wherever your at is where you will have to stay..travel will be banned quickly..

My bag contents: small IFAK, Swiss Army Knife, small flashlight, extra battery for flash light, a snack, 16 oz bottle of water.
My situation: I live in a super safe, small college town where nothing ever happens. Work is a 5 minute walk from home. Most threats are weather related stuff. Had to spend an extra half hour at work yesterday do to the threat of a tornado. I was glad I had a snack in my bag.

Wow no way, under such a situation there would be no reason to gi joe out unless you lived in a terribly high risk area which would more than likely make you a target. A concealed piece would get a wife and kids home if that was even needed. You'd be better off making sure you had walking shoes for you and the wife, a collapsible wagon if you have small children, clothing for any weather situations, water and something of nutrition in your pack all in case you have to walk it out.

You can’t legally transport AR’s in Massachusetts unless they are in a separate locked container with a trigger lock or cable lock. Sometimes you need to read between the lines and listen to what I’m saying.
