Since 1975, I saw every single Elis’ show, at least, twice. And I had the chance to know her in person. We became sort of distant friends. She was unique and I never saw anything like her for my entire life. At the time of this presentation, she was in a turbulance moment at her marriage. And this song (recorded after the split of her first marriage) brought her a lot of emotions, as if she was living the same situation for the second time. All of this, you can see clearly and undoubtly in this performance.

She is telling the story of her SEPARATION, and the husband who is separated from her is right there on the piano, there is another interpretation of this song that she really cries. Here in Brazil few people speak English, so without subtitles it doesn't work much. Even so, thanks! 🎶🌿🌹🇧🇷

@@Rebvibe La música brasilera esta en otro nivel, de verdad. Todo tiene que ver con su idioma portugues , las ascendencias negras y europeas, es una mezcla extraordinaria entre negros y portugueses. Es muy dificil describir lo que son los brasileros, sus vocales del portugues son mas bellos que el español y tienen mas tonos graves que el nuestro.

The delivery of this tune by Elis became the "thing" on its' very first arrival on the musical scene, way back when.
It evokes the feelings she once had for a past lover.
It became the *schtick* of this tune, and very hard for any artist to attempt to cover after that. Still, people do try.
It wasn't a political song, that I know of.
I don't mean to criticise the glorious Elis Regina at all - this is a damned fine vocalist/artist from Brazil, and a dreamy chart by C. Barque.
But the crying, it was always a part of the delivery on this tune for her, since it unearths some powerful memories for her - every time she sang it.
Oooh I didn't know she often did that with the song. She was an amazing artist indeed! 💖

@@Rebvibe Actually, this song is from 1972, she had just broke up with Ronaldo Bôscoli, who was a very well known bossanova composer. She went on to marry Cesar Camargo Mariano, who was the pianist of her Band.

The audio file is unfortunetaly corrupted. I recommend the 1972 version, black and white, in the Brazilian PBS. She doesn't hide her face and there's some (bad) Spanish translation in it.

"Estranhar" in Portuguese does not have the same meaning as in Spanish. It means ‘to be surprised’.

Em minha opinião... colocaria a Elis Regina em 1º lugar por ser mais versátil (transitou por diversos estilos musicais) e, também, por ser melhor interprete (transmitia, em cada nota, toda a emoção da letra da música... seja lá qual for o sentimento).
