Baggio was destroying defenders with skill it was like the ball was glued to his toe the balance he had and his turn of pace was unreal and this was a player who at 18 was told he wouldnt play again after rupturing his ACL. he had it all free kicks passing and he was a nightmare for any defender. imo in the 90s he was the best player i seen playing he would have won more silverware but only for injuries. he dragged italy all the way to the 94 world cup only to get injured in the semi final and in the final he could hardly run. people will say the best is messi and c ronaldo maybey so but the best player in the 90s was baggio and he was playing in a league that at that time had the worlds best defenders the divine ponytail
Best N10 ever alongside Maradona, with Baggio, for me, more complete than Maradona in some skills as field cleverness and acrobatic shoots. And he did it all this without a knee since his 18 y/o, in a Serie A as Top notch world Championship that had the best worlds defenders (that was not soft at all with strikers, as today is for Messi and Ronaldo). Unlucky career, but he's loved and recognized as one of the best ever, worldwide.
If Roberto had decided to leave Italy he would have been more successful. He suffered from a myriad of managers that just did not want to use him in their systems. Lippi, Sacchi and Ancellotti stunted this stars brilliance. The only one that understood that he needed to build the system around Baggio was Carletto Mazzone. Then there is the sticking point of Baggio's knees...6 f'n surgeries!!! 4 on one and two on the other...what he was able to do on two less than 100% legs is frankly miraculous. If he had not had the knee injuries...Omg...Would people have ever talked about Zidane, Totti, Del Piero?? Idk...I honestly think he's be in a class by himself. As it is, he's already considered the Maradonna of Italian forwards. Just imagine if he'd had even a shred of lady-luck on his side.
Thanks for the insight and yes I love Roberto since doing this reaction I’ve heard a lot of stories like these and did more research on the players himself and wow the things some of his teammates say about his talent and football mindset is insane!!!
