Farah has tried time and time again to make a car channel that makes it big, they do interesting cars, its all there, but HE is impossible to like, no manners, crude, arrogant, fat, all things people don't want to watch, quite the opposite of Chris, the standard well mannered and humble Englishman (if its all an act, well, he does a good job acting then)
We believe you Chris. The onboard footage shows you continually adding more steering lock to the left and the car still going right. Tuff luck, but you handled it like a man.
Yes, he's turning left, but the car wants right. There didn't seem to be any huge thing to cause it, though. No huge jarring pothole or anything that I noticed.
You can clearly see the steering wheel shudder as the wheel loses its control arm. It seems, therefore, like a stress failure rather than some discrete impact
Basil Kehoe-Parsons you can’t it will happen eventually no matter how good you are. Just gotta look on Te bright side that you da you didn’t roll or just go 60-0 in something solid is a good day
It’s rally, you will break stuff sooner or later, no matter if you drive a Ford Fiesta in stock class or a built M3 in Group N. Only difference is price of parts. At least there wasn’t any trees next to the road like in other rallies.
I don't think I'd ever want to get into rallying because of how expensive it is when things go wrong like in this video, but I can still appreciate how much skill and effort it takes for people like Chris that go after it!
You were going fast man!! Thanks again for sharing the free videos, i think i speak for most car enthusiasts when i say you are THE BEST car journalist there has ever been. Cheers from Peru!
Don't know what it is but there's a real magic to 80s rally cars and the spirit too! Chris walking away from the wreck while making quips after 'throwing his willy around' LOL More of these rally vids if your wallet can stomach the pain! Still amazed the top mount was only tweeked after getting a wheel ripped off!
Fantastic move painting the car alpine white, that's the color of my E30 M3, and I wouldn't have it any other way!!! Sad to see the car sitting in a field, but that's the nature of rallying
Rainism true. well, clarkson is not a really good driver tho. Chris Harris and Tiff Needell ar in my opinion the best car journalists and both are awesome drivers.
It is sad to see something like this happen. For both the car and the drivers sake. Keep up the great work and keep that passion for everything you do. I know this was on drive plus a while ago and at the end you said you would let us know more in the next episode. Any update?
Sorry, Chris. It's tough to see someone spend months and thousands of dollars getting a car prepped, only to be taken down by a parts breakage. I hope to see more from this build in the future. Cheers from "the colonies."
Yes, on reviewing the onboard footage, you can see a definite jerk when the link lets go, before the skewed wheel takes the car off the road. Could have been a lot worse. Nicely handled Chris!
After reading the titel of the video and seeing the suspension at 1:56 my guess was that there might be an issue with that control arm. Some tube suspension designs are available on the market for the e30M3 some better some very bad but overall I would say more suited for on track racing.
Sorry about that chris pretty sure it will be running properly in no time. I love bmw and i work at bmw but if you want to rally for cheap then a gc8 is your best bet lol. Looking forward to see more of it!
I like the choice of gearbox for M3. Samsonas is very good gearbox maker but not many knows about it because it is from small country colled Lithuania. I also tried rallying in e30 as a co-driver. Go Chirs! Everything gonna be alright. Tell us more about your rallying career.
One of the hardest things to learn when you get understeer, is to turn off because all your instincts tell you to turn more. Turning off (turning into the slide just like oversteer) regains your slip angle, but it's not natural.
The link (or a link, i'm not sure it's the right video) /watch?v=5NyvGMZzoBE I've already seen it btw, cuz it's one of the only way to have this great intake noise from race versions of the E30, with of course the option of the DTM examples.
Before I looked at the comments I could see it was a car failure 🙃 unlucky mate. Next time!!!! Great car lucky she didnt go on her roof. No one hurt. If you have a 4th gear accident and lose a wheel and can still go for a pint, it's been a good day 😀
argh, fuel pump failure before the first stage?! Sounds all too familiar from my own misadventures with e30 and e36 race cars. Occupational hazard by the looks of things, but won't deter me!
GODOFGUITAR2112 Yes, the E30 M3 has a storied rally history with Prodrive in the WRC, but Sergio is still correct in that this car is at its best on tarmac stages rather than gravel. In fact, the E30 M3's only WRC victory was the 1987 Tour de Corse which is a tarmac rally.
iliovecaRS If you think about it, Honda produce a 2.0L, 240BHP engine for their road cars, this has a fairly decent service interval. Proper highly strung rally engines will need a rebuild or at least a refresh every two or three rallies. If you want mind bending statistics...Think about how in the same era... BMW were getting almost 1600 BHP out of a 1.5 engine in F1.
I know what you mean. I`m also a big E30 M3 fan, but the example that Chris bought wasn`t worth restoring to original spec. It was in pretty bad condition and already had a rool cage welded in. Converting to a rally car was a good option in my opinion. I wish Chris good luck and enjoy his rally adventure with it.
Let's not forget that the 'M' means 'Motorsport' and that rallying is just that. Yes, it takes one of the road cars off the road - well, sort of, rally cars are still street-legal of course - but it means that tired old E30 gets to live a second life as something to be enjoyed by an enthusiast. Besides, BMW rallied M3s back in the day, like he said.
People who do nothing are always the most critical of those that actually do things. Critics are people who can do nothing, seems to always be the case.
Entertaining video. I like it No disrespect to everyone involved but errr fabrication could be of better standards. I might be wrong and it’s always easy to comment from the sofa. But that component failure smells more like something else
Thank you for the free content Chris, you truly are an example to all car enthusiasts! Share what you love
y
***** I'd like some proof to all that shit you're saying.
Chris is very likeable and skilled and far from Arrogant, Farah is arrogant and annoying to watch, that is why it Failed, simple
***** Cant throw words like that around without a shred of evidence. You are the first person I have heard talk ill of Chris.
Farah has tried time and time again to make a car channel that makes it big, they do interesting cars, its all there, but HE is impossible to like, no manners, crude, arrogant, fat, all things people don't want to watch, quite the opposite of Chris, the standard well mannered and humble Englishman (if its all an act, well, he does a good job acting then)
*After Crash*
Chris: "Sorry mate."
Other Guy: "I'm sorry for you."
looool
He was talking to the M3, his mate just didn't get it :D
Hahahah
We believe you Chris. The onboard footage shows you continually adding more steering lock to the left and the car still going right. Tuff luck, but you handled it like a man.
Yes, he's turning left, but the car wants right.

"such is life. Come on Neil, let go have a beer"
I love how he doesn't get all mad about it
Basil Kehoe-Parsons you can’t it will happen eventually no matter how good you are. Just gotta look on Te bright side that you da you didn’t roll or just go 60-0 in something solid is a good day
🤣 he’s mad... just British mad
Rich people don’t get mad.
It’s rally, you will break stuff sooner or later, no matter if you drive a Ford Fiesta in stock class or a built M3 in Group N. Only difference is price of parts. At least there wasn’t any trees next to the road like in other rallies.
Yup, why would you
I don't think I'd ever want to get into rallying because of how expensive it is when things go wrong like in this video, but I can still appreciate how much skill and effort it takes for people like Chris that go after it!
You can do rally on the cheap as well. But you would have to take a direct interest in the cars your self and be constantly working on them.
Maybe try tarmac rallying? Idk how much more expensive it is but at least it isn’t on dirt.
A true enthusiast!! I love it! And great attitude Chris!
Ikr
this, like the goodwood video really resinates with me. I like these sort of narrative videos (a lot)!
resonates
I do enjoy watching Chris drive, you know every one of us would make the same faces and noises that he does...
You were going fast man!! Thanks again for sharing the free videos, i think i speak for most car enthusiasts when i say you are THE BEST car journalist there has ever been. Cheers from Peru!
There's something about Chris Harris that i quite enjoy. Don't know exactly what, but who cares. I'm just glad he's back with us.
Hi Chris would love to see you on a tarmac rally in Ireland I have no doubt you would receive a very warm welcome
The good old „Chris Harris on Cars“ times....! Enjoyed every Video!!!
I grew up on a road that wasn't paved, fucking loving this
This is one of the best videos you made IMHO. Simply - this is rallying, from start to finish of the video. GL and hoping more to come.
That's how you keep your composure. Chris is great.
Chris, your videos are always the most entertaining! Thank you!
Thank you so much for taking your videos off that ridiculous /Drive channel and putting them here for us for free. You are car Jesus.
That destroyed my heart when I saw it.
Why are you not on telly Chris? Your knowledge of cars, driving skill etc is far more interesting than what we have on tv at the moment!
Thanks Chris! that Patrick Snijers-Rally Manx 88 clip is so good!
at the 5:53 mark in slow motion you can see the component failure
march11stoneytony I’m quite tardy to the conversation but the double quiver and instantaneous loss of control are very apparent!
Uploaded 2014, how could i miss this!!?? E30 rally with my favorite driver (after Rickard Rydell ofc)
We’re all still here, this is best content available.
Great video, super.
I'd love also to see 190E DTM car on any race track :)
Don't know what it is but there's a real magic to 80s rally cars and the spirit too! Chris walking away from the wreck while making quips after 'throwing his willy around' LOL More of these rally vids if your wallet can stomach the pain! Man your videos are awesome. Glad to see you doing your own thing, and glad to be a supporter.
Fantastic move painting the car alpine white, that's the color of my E30 M3, and I wouldn't have it any other way!!! Sad to see the car sitting in a field, but that's the nature of rallying
6:42 "fucking wankers" hahahahaha
Same thing happened to Ari Vatanen in a M3 at the 1988 1000 Lakes Rally Finland. In an interview he says that part needs to be beefed up.
Have a beer and carry on, good stuff Chris.
Oh my god, that ITB sound
Wow, feel very sorry for you. Biggest of respect for your humbling reaction.
"I bought an E30 M3 for 12 grand"
This statement seems so wild in 2022....
One of my favourite presenters after Jeremy Clarkson~ keep em up mate~!
Clarkson is a douchebag prick....
butthurt much
Chris lacks a bit in the studio environment. Get him in a car however... and he just comes to life :)
Top guy - awesome driver.
that without a doubt mate~
Rainism true. well, clarkson is not a really good driver tho. Chris Harris and Tiff Needell ar in my opinion the best car journalists and both are awesome drivers.
Love your videos man!! I named my son Harris too.. hope he will be as good as u..
It is sad to see something like this happen. For both the car and the drivers sake. Keep up the great work and keep that passion for everything you do. I know this was on drive plus a while ago and at the end you said you would let us know more in the next episode. Any update?
Worried more about the experience and the event than the machinery - like a true racer
God damn Patrick Snijers is going bonkers in that Manx video. Bonkers, I tell you.
Sorry, Chris. It's tough to see someone spend months and thousands of dollars getting a car prepped, only to be taken down by a parts breakage. I hope to see more from this build in the future. Cheers from "the colonies."

Where is the link to the rallyvideo?
For the lazy one's: Patrick Snijers bmw m3

"blueprinted but otherwise standard" I find that funny for some reason
“Waving your willy around” 😂
Good work Chris
Sorry about that chris pretty sure it will be running properly in no time.

No Country For Old Cars
Chris pure awesome !
Love your videos, Chris!
As usual, great video.
Thanks so much.
Deep pockets needed. Very deep.
Before I looked at the comments I could see it was a car failure 🙃 unlucky mate. Next time!!!! Great car lucky she didnt go on her roof. No one hurt. If you have a 4th gear accident and lose a wheel and can still go for a pint, it's been a good day 😀
Chris, where did you get that BMW badge for the horn button on the steering wheel?
argh, fuel pump failure before the first stage?! Sounds all too familiar from my own misadventures with e30 and e36 race cars. Occupational hazard by the looks of things, but won't deter me!
4:29 Drift in slow motion - cool.
Tarmac, Chris, that's where this car shines. Your mistake was putting it on a gravel stage.
This car has always had a presence in rally, where have you been?
GODOFGUITAR2112 Yes, the E30 M3 has a storied rally history with Prodrive in the WRC, but Sergio is still correct in that this car is at its best on tarmac stages rather than gravel. In fact, the E30 M3's only WRC victory was the 1987 Tour de Corse which is a tarmac rally.
Andrew Z Makes sense.
7:00 Ronaldo haircut great
Ronaldo haircut?
Ronaldo from 2002 World cup has the same haircut
SuperSedans Oh, that Ronaldo!
+Ricardo Lourizela THE ONLY! ;)
Where's the link?
Here: watch?v=IS8AMrBnYHM
One of my favourite vids on youtube
Thanks!
HyperLeafBlower
woah. havent seen this before. SICK.
HyperLeafBlower
Holy fuck!
Where can I find the next episode, I'm obsessed
At 8:19 , the front strut assemble do not look like a E30 M3 one , is it a mod from E36's strut?
You should be on TV.
Nice E30 by the way.
I think he has more freedom on the internet than a TV company would give him.
Lol
How did the s14 from back then made 300+ hp without any superchargers or turbos?
***** nah i did some reasearch and it turns out that fully built s14 can make up to 300hp
Probably balanced up to a high RPM. It is possible.
iliovecaRS because Germans designed/made it
iliovecaRS If you think about it, Honda produce a 2.0L, 240BHP engine for their road cars, this has a fairly decent service interval.
Proper highly strung rally engines will need a rebuild or at least a refresh every two or three rallies.
If you want mind bending statistics...Think about how in the same era... BMW were getting almost 1600 BHP out of a 1.5 engine in F1.
+Benjamin Schumacher He's actually right, the pre-facelift Honda S2000 had a 2.0L engine with 240 hp.
Damn that sounds good. Chris, I want your life.
Does he still have this? Hope he does. It's pretty cool
I love Rally, I love Colin McRae, I love good cars
love it!!! thank you chris
'We're off.'
No shit Dave.
This guy needs a podcast
He has one
thats the best ... why not say
i fuckin lost it enjoying my self .
Anything cheap is not worth the effort. Dont give up, like you said you wont.
...and that's why they use titanium parts in stage rally.
So much for a cheap and cheerful way to rally!! But who cares, this is brilliant anyway keep it up Chris!!
12 grand for an e30 m3 you got the deal of the century!!!
Tempting fate. Another one wants to meet his maker. Hope his books well balanced. Crazy again.
why i find it sad to convert original M3 to rally car....
I know what you mean. I`m also a big E30 M3 fan, but the example that Chris bought wasn`t worth restoring to original spec. It was in pretty bad condition and already had a rool cage welded in. Besides, BMW rallied M3s back in the day, like he said.
Hey, its still much much better than swaping it with straight6 or even worse, turbo it
Sounds like you're making a small fortune rallying, Chris.
I went through 2 fuel pumps on my e30. Must be a thing.
E30 is the best car proof by time.
Nooooooooo! 😭
Chris Good luck :)
Chris was great for Top Gear but not vice versa. Much rather have stuff like this on the regular.
concentrated awesome
You're a journalist by trade but going by your excuse making skills, a racing driver in the making!
in fact, here's a link to it...
An e30 for $12k is the craziest part of the video
People who do nothing are always the most critical of those that actually do things. Critics are people who can do nothing, seems to always be the case.
Best car ever!!!!
That was not his fault and he took it like a champ. Win it or bin it!
It seems you should rethink having your work done by that race shop.
Do you still have this M3?
what are the wheels on his car
Entertaining video.
I like it
No disrespect to everyone involved but errr fabrication could be of better standards. I might be wrong and it’s always easy to comment from the sofa. But that component failure smells more like something else
whatever happened to this car?
Whelp. that was scary!!!!
Driving around in expensive cars has given the poor lad delusions of immense wealth, a dream his bank manager only shares to a certain extent.
Oh dear
