I think you are referring to those super duo attacks that is trigger when the screen prompts you press the "x" button. As it's quite sometime I last played the game, so I am not 100% sure. If I remember correctly, it is usually triggered when you dodge (run towards the enemy and dodge) certain special moves from either a boss or some stronger enemies.

i saw this video where they did a super super duo attack with a longer animation???? i was like how did they do that move?
