In 2007 I finally had a little money from my business... It was between THIS or a 355. I ended up going with the 355 F-1 because I'm a chain-smoking coffee guzzling slob. And I don't want to have to constantly need both hands to drive. I liked the 355 because it was the first Ferrari to have that lovely little button... 'Auto'. You slip it in auto and you're driving any every-day vehicle. It was surprisingly practical and normal to drive. If you want, you can use the paddles for more interaction to the car and to have more fun. But for me, 'fun' is novelty and wears off. I just want to get from point A to point B in style. And the 355 was the one for me. I got a red/tan 1999 355 with the F-1 paddles, of course. But I came 'this' close to getting a Testarossa. The model I wanted was a white TR, from 1992 thru 1994. It was slightly less dated for 2007, and it drove with far greater performance, too. I forgot, but I'm fairly certain neither the 1980's Testarossa or the 1990's TR upgraded versions had power steering. That was another downer for me. I don't need a headache. I know it's 'cool' to say you like stick-shift, and that you like manual 5-speed transmissions because it's so much more fun and it lets you 'feel the road, maaaaaaan'. But I think these have become trite comments bullshitters say to sound like they're serious car people. I admit I know nothing about cars. I'm not impressed by gear heads, either. They annoy me more than anything with their constant complaining about every car for the slightest reason. The people that say they would only get a Ferrari if it was manual are the same people that would also never drive it anyway. They're just crap. I drove my 355. I drove it every single day! I didn't fuss about getting a dent, either. Why? That would be stress and that's no fun. I'd drink a soda and toss the can in the passenger area. So what! I'd get ashes all over the interior. It stunk like cigs. So what! Have fun and relax and don't stress or you won't enjoy anything anyway. That said... I think the Testarossa was the most beautiful car made in the 1980's. It's next to the 3X8 Ferraris. They're utterly-gorgeous, too. And while I admit the 355 looks best in convertible, I got it in Berlinetta. Why? Unless you live in California, the weather just stinks. In the NYC metro where I am, it's either too hot, or too cold, or too windy, or it's raining or snowing... we get very few perfect days. 99% of the time in the summer I want the top up and A/C cranking, so... A convertible was pointless to me. But I recognize that the 355 looks a bit more beautiful as a convertible. People today are lucky, as most convertibles have retractable hard tops. They look and work just like a hard top when you want it to. It's really the best of both worlds. But in the 1980's and 1990's convertible's all had those awful soft canvas tops that always looked terrible up. A convertible only looks great with the top down, obviously. Anyway, I digress. The Ferrari Testarossa and the Ferrari 308 were the two most beautiful 'exotic' cars to have been made. Which looks better... the 1980's Testarossa or the updated version they tagged the TR? I used to always say the TR. But I appreciate the even more rigid lines of the 1980's model more now than ever before. 1990's cars all tended to have a rounded and bubbly appearance. I hated that. The white Miami Vice testarossa was on display for many years at the Thunderbird Swap Shop in Ft Lauderdale Florida. Along with a Daytona convertible and many high end collectables.
Just 4 years ago everybody was able to buy a Testa ... now price had multiplied by 3 ! But since long time, cost of using is at reach of all budgets(for occasional hobby cruising...no for racing !!!). Is not à Countach !
