In one of Robert Flugrams essays (Everything I Need to Know I Learned In Kindergarten) was the advice that “Anything not worth doing is worth not doing well”. So this guitar had something not worth doing, well done. 🥺

The gauze you see is factory applied. Yamaha also sealed the inside of their guitars with lacquer/ shellac. Since they are laminated/plywood , they braced the guitar lightly relying on the strength of the laminated top. I have reset the neck on quite a few fg series. I have found some come off easily and some don't. It seems to me that the used high gram strength hide glue which is harder to remove. Love your videos.

The repair Ace is on the job. That mandolin is phenomenal. Mine is junk, pretty, but junk.

Yamaha normally makes a good guitar, at least the older ones. What you have there is a mystery. I want to see that video, seems like I would let you do what was needed regardless of the gauze. You are the master so I'm sure whatever you did to make it right , you did. My wife's guitar is a FG - 75 - 1 Yamaha that she got around 1975. Beautiful guitar in excellent shape, but hard as hell to play. We named it the egg slicer. I will be working on it soon, hoping it doesn't need a neck reset. I know the truss rod has never been adjusted and so forth, I will let you know how it goes when you put out that video. Thanks for all you taught me.

Wouldn't a Bridge Doctor help with some of that warp?

I know you say that life is flashing by, but at least you are doing something worthwhile with your time, unlike me who has zero skills and more or less just sits about. :) And yes, the time still goes just as fast.

If it's tall in the saddle you can call it John Wayne?

What is the model number of that Yamaha, Jerry, it looks remarkably similar to my FG200?

I just bought on EBay a set of 4 closed back Tuning Machines for the Tenor Ukelele I am finishing. I only paid $20 for the set and I am a bit curious as to what expensive $100 a piece tuning machines provide.
P.S. I am hooked, building an instrument should come with a warming label. Already I am thinking Classical Guitar is next.

If you have it recorded you can put a bass track on it.

I was thinking the same thing. I've done a lot of recording, and that is certainly a possibility.
I would imagine that Jerry has mastering software, as he has done a lot of recording also.

I'm Japanese. My Yamaha guitar has a weak neck, so I added reinforcements to fix the warp.

life is flying by for sure I was born in march 1955 and I feal like I need to go back to the future with Marty mc fly and get another jump on this thing called life way to many aches and pains not to mention I would do some things a little different like save a few lives of family members who died in accidents , and on a lighter note invest in Microsoft lol

Hi, Jerry. I wonder if that bridge plate is typical Yamaha practice. Makes me question them as a potential purchase. Did you consider gluing a second plate over the existing one?

The more and more I see issues with Yamaha's , I am glad I didn't buy one. Years ago, in high school, we got a brand new Yamaha piano for our chorus class. Wasn't in the school very long before the sound board developed a huge crack in it. To be fair, Yamaha did replace it, but it seems it was a sign of things to come. I love the sound of some of them, but in the end, I went in another direction. Thanks for the content Jerry

Would this guitar be a good candidate for a Plate Mate?
