Dimiter Marinov is such a treasure in this and is provided a real opportunity to shine by the wonderful script. Milana Vayntrub's deft direction and aptly understated performance contribute to making this a very polished, heartfelt and memorable short film. Bravo to all involved!
Funny and moving film. Very well written with some genuine laugh-out-loud moments. Milana Vayntrub and Dimiter D. Marinov are sweetly believable as father and daughter. Really enjoyed this and will watch again.
What an incredibly authentic story, so charming & honest! I wanted it to keep going. The father / daughter dynamic was absolutely dynamite , bravo bravo 👏🏼👏🏼
What a beautiful story, and what a good dad (though he would drive me crazy, it's the good kind of crazy). She did a really good job of conveying the emotions she couldn't share. I've like this actress in everything I've seen her in. I would like to see her in more. All three did a great job, the husband was quietly saying a lot too, and the father conveyed a great deal of history and really embodies this character. You could feel his love and worry through the screen.
What a wonderful, very well written and acted movie. I can completely see this as something that can be picked up as a series. In such a short time, we realize that there could be so much to explore about the main characters. I want to see more of them!
Great movie, This short story has a lot of humorous and intelligent lines. Bravo script writer Marina Shifrin! In 16 minutes Marina gave us the story of family life and relationship which very moving. Very talented writer with amazing sense of humour. Love it!
I have watched a lot of shorts and this is the best one so far. excellent acting, cinematography is superb, very inventive, wonderful humorous and realistic plot. just a gem of a movie.
The character is so blessed to have this incredible father who will do absolutely anything for her. Age 60 is not decrepit! Her father appears healthy and full of life. The daughter doesn’t make it to the bathroom. I thought it was funny that the next scene is the father washing her hair. Did she get urine in her hair.😊 While watching this sweet short film, I couldn’t stop wishing that I had a father that cared!😊
OMG! She was awesome! So expressive, I couldn't stop watching! Please someone put her in something big! Papa was also terrific, but I'd love me more Mila!
It's in our blood. Borsh, selёdka, ikra, shproty, pelmeni, golubtsy, rassolnik, solyanka, blinchiki, syrniki, kotletki, okroshka, etc. Slavic food is the best
That was great. As a father to a daughter that I am trying to provide the best life possible for, I can relate. Trying to let her try new things- gymnastics, ice skating, art, and not spoiling her to where she takes things for granted is tough. It's even tougher on a budget. The father cooking made me smile. My daughter is only 9 but she like me to make her an omelet for breakfast before I go to work. I wish I had the energy this father has.
Superb ......Milana Vayntrub take a bow !......simply emotional ..........."I don't like Nancy Pelosi" 😂😂😂 was a personal favourite ! ........He would be a fantastic Grandpa !
indeed!! so many great one liners, especially when they added up to such a lovable "the odd couple" that we can empathize with--even if we might one to strangle one or both of them IRL. hehe...
wow, really, really nice video! From start to finish, so beautifully well written and directed!! Milana Vayntrub and Dimiter Marinov were brilliant! Just so many little/important/subtle touches to their acting! The way they reacted to each other, etc. so engaging. But one section got my attention: the hilarious montage! (from about 7:20 till 8:07). So funny! But especially how it wrapped up by moving the very comic music from non-diegetic to diegetic as we see her father playing that very song on the guitar! seamless transition.! "this unpleasantness we will overcome" heartwarming scene! And... the hair washing scene was very touching. To me, the entire video is a textbook example of character development, great shot choices, and each scene meaning so much because of what came before it. wow!
Pickled Herring showcases Milana Vayntrub's captivating performance in a quirky comedy. Milana shines with her relatable and hilariously over-the-top portrayal, making the film both engaging and entertaining. Her charm and comedic timing make Pickled Herring a delightful watch.
I know the USSR Joke at the beginning a bit different: „An old Babuschka (Grandma) enters a shop and says ‘I like to have a liter of milk.’ To which the shop-lady replies: ‘Oh, you are in the wrong shop! This is the shop where we don’t have bread. The shop where they don’t have milk is across the street.’“ Actually deeply philosophical too.
This is absolutely brilliant, on so many levels. Exquisitely written, wonderfully acted (especially the daughter), and simply… wow! Favourite quote: ‘Wars start for what you have in your fridge.’ My only two wonderings: What is this about ‘spatula money’ at the end - did he sell the picture frame?!? And, as always: SUBTITLES WOULD BE REALLY USEFUL, for simple inclusion reasons.
10:10 "Hi Siri call Pappichka," which means Daddy in Russian, but Siri thought she wanted Pizza-Hut. Got me laugh! 😂 Oh, the mix-ups we encounter with technology! 😂
There wasn't anything in the plot or its development to keep me engaged. (Not a complaint. It wasn't that kind of story.) But I loved these characters, their dialogue, and their interactions. The opening scene of the "crying baby" turning out to be the reminder for birth control was genius! These are the folks I want to live next door to.
Dimiter Marinov is such a treasure in this and is provided a real opportunity to shine by the wonderful script. Milana Vayntrub's deft direction and aptly understated performance contribute to making this a very polished, heartfelt and memorable short film. Bravo to all involved!
I love the dad. Bestest of Dads.
I'd love to have Lev as a father-in-law.
She always comes across as real and relatable in everything she does. She’s really a likable Kind Lady. ❤️
Yeah, she does come across like that, almost like she knows shes performing to be liked by people.
Excellent! This could become a series. Great chemistry between father and daughter!
Lol.."no dad please, i smell like a***, yes, but you are my a***"🤣❤. That's really the best of the best fathers.
A real line from my sweetie dad.
"Wars have started for what you have in your refrigerator!"
this humbled me
Didn't get🙄

Watch "Pickled Herring" again and listen for the quote that I posted above.
Funny and moving film. Very well written with some genuine laugh-out-loud moments. Milana Vayntrub and Dimiter D. Marinov are sweetly believable as father and daughter. Really enjoyed this and will watch again.
I lost my father to cancer. I miss him so much. This was such a special short film. I LOVED her papa.
That's Dimiter Marinov. A legend!!!
Me too. Im sure we felt a similar love and missing of our dads. My papachka was also the most caring and loving Russian papa ❤️

The translation of "$9000" to "$5000" was hilarious.
Ha! Thank you! That was a last minute joke we added after seeing it play at a few festivals and realizing there could be a joke there!
@@MilanasMovies I don't understand the humour. Was it Russian humour?

From the cinematographer, thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed the film.
Why this film didn’t get more likes is insane. I come from a Ukrainian family so I can totally relate. And we love pickled herring
"That's why you need paper towels" - this is a terrific piece of work
This was beautiful, the dad was perfection. My father passed two years ago and this made me terribly nostalgic. 🙌💓

Very excited for my friend Marina Shifrin (who wrote the screenplay) to have this wonderful film out in "the wild" as they say.
The small details are wonderful, I love the tight sock band marks when he's washing the wheel chair!
I fell in love with all three characters! Didn’t want it to ever end. Wonderful!!!
