For The Flash I kind of get, since the actor was playing 3 different versions of the same character (Present Barry, past Barry, and Black Flash Barry), most of which were on screen at the same time. They apparently had all the parts featuring all 3 Barry's complete by the time the controversy hits, so logically if they did recast, it be a major investment loss since it's not just a single character that is prominently featured in the film being recasted, but 3.

Not a hot take really. as the movie (apart from terrible VFX) was actually really good. But sadly the announcement that the stories won't be continuing and reboot of DCEU led to people skipping that film. but it definitely was a good film.
That’s a fact, the movie was ruined because they were going to reboot and people lost interest since none of the plot would matter. But it was a solid movie, even better than black Adam
Between them keeping a problematic actor on as their main character and the superhero market already being oversaturated and DC movies already being kind of on thin ice, they really took a good movie and ruined it before it could even be in theaters
Oddly enough as I much as I enjoyed the OG Friday and Nightmare, I’ve never seen the Friday reboot and I’ve seen the Nightmare one and yeah I agree it sucks balls.
naa, Black Adam till he surrenders and is submerged into water prison was a decent movie, but after that it just was total PoS. and all the hype around it was only cause of return of Henry Cavil's Superman. But Flash (apart from it's VFX) was actually a very good movie, but the announcement of DCEU ending lead to people not wanting to watch the film. but it was actually a very good film.
Divergent tv series did not happen, because the main actress Shailene Woodley effectively stated her agreement was as a movie star for the films. Not a low level tv actress status.
Chris Reeve was so proud that he got a screenwriting credit for Supes 4. Margot Kidder talked about how he was a bit insufferable about it. When that movie tanked he was sang a different tune.
I'm still bitter about the Divergent series. I loved the books but each movie got exponentially worse. And then we never received a finale. Makes me mad!
@@Monke_073 Even Man of Steel, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Birds of Prey, Shazam, Zack Snyder's Justice League, James Gunn The Suicide Squad, & Blue Beetle?
Superman 4 and Batman and Robin aren’t really the franchises final nails in their coffin anymore. Considering how many more successful films were released afterwards, despite a long hiatus
as for matrix 4 ... the wachowski's were forced into making the 4th due to a technicality in the copyright red tape ... they said in multiple interviews that they were done after 3 -- the story they wanted to tell was done
The Next Karate Kid was also the debut of Hilary Swank. The only redeeming factor about that movie was seeing Pat Morita reprising his role as Mr Miyagi. Then in 2010 we would get a reboot movie starring Jaden Smith which was ironically called The Karate Kid. Except it's not Karate, it's Kung Fu.
They should have used brainiac change everything for the plot and start over. Same thing with Superman 4 and use bizarro instead of nuclear man start over with the plot.
My friends and their boat were background extras in Speed 2. They were paid to hang out on their own boat in the Caribbean for something like six weeks, and they're a tiny little dot in one shot.
Superman IV was a bad movie, but it's kind of funny that the actor who played Lex Luthor's nephew eventually went on to do an amazing portrayal of Lex himself.
I went to see FLASH because of Andy Muschietti I love when horror directors make superhero movies And despite everything that caused the movie to bomb, I had a really good time watching it I'm also very exciting to see Muschietti's take on BRAVE AND THE BOLD
I think the DCU movies are mostly good and the Matrix Resurrection was good too. But sometimes in DCU case introducing gags in superhero movies can be too much, and take the threat away from the moment.
Yeah, I think a lot of the DC movies are good as well. Though, I was swayed out of seeing Blue Beetle bc people on Facebook wouldn’t shut up about it bombing.
I think some of the movies mentioned here performed badly in the box office because, the studio or distributor didn't really spend time and money on the marketing.
The issue with the Terminator franchise, is that we want a movie about the war. Not just little flashbacks or visions, a full on 2 hours of machines vs the resistance. But they won't do that.🤷♂️
Salvation is the closest we have to a war movie. I like the movie but it could be better. If they make a war film the protagonist could be Kyle Reese or John Connor. Kyle Reese grew up after judgment day. John Connor is the one who taught the resistance to fight and destroy these machines. who should be the focus? John or Kyle.
I did too, it was the perfect middle movie in the franchise. Better than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Temple of Doom but not as good as Raiders and Last Crusade.
"The Police Academy movies were never considered high art or high comedy..." Of course not, because they were always gonna be live-action Looney Tunes for adults.
I don't know. My feeling is that you can't call it a franchise if it was the first or second movie in the "franchise," even if there were plans to make more movies. I just think that a franchise has to be at least 3 movies long.
Oh sure, the next Karate Kid may have stopped any future movies, but we all know that if Hillary Swank's character showed up in the final season of Cobra Kai, lots of people will be cheering...
Jaws, the revenge didn't bomb: for a budget of $20 million, the movie generated $51 million. If this movie destroyed the franchise, this is because this is so bad. You should have put "Son of the Mask" in number one. In fact, "Dial of destiny" is, for me, an excellent movie.
I thought the flash movie was very good. I was a flash fan back in the day. To me the flash film had all of the flavor and texture of the infantino stories. The terminator dark fate was good too. I am always suspicious when a film is popular with the hoi polloi. I am equally suspicious when a film is deemed a flop before it's released.
The only ones I've seen are, Sin City, A Dame To Kill For, The Matrix Resurrections, Indiana Jones and The Dial Of Destiny, The DCEU films mentioned minus Shazam: Fury Of The Gods, Looney Tunes Back In Action, Fantastic Four, Dark Phoenix, Son Of The Mask Terminator: Dark Fate and Batman & Robin. I do think however a bomb doesn't always necessarily mean that it's going to be a bad film. Looney Tunes: Back In Action I don't think it's a bad film the rest yes i agree with that.
Terminator: Dark Fate would've been a fine movie IF it would've been Grace going back in time to protect Sarah (Linda Hamilton's) and finding a hardened person instead of trying to push new "commander of the rebellion" on us. The Terminator movies and series was always Sarah's story...in my humble opinion but they kept screwing it up by focusing on John.
Well that's stupid the whole point is John Connor is the leader of the resistance then they kill him off in this utter shite movie of female empowerment. Sarah Connor was always a powerful woman.
I thought THE MUMMY was okay, but it should’ve been a LOT better and I was looking forward to the Dark Universe back then, especially with one of my gods Johnny Depp as The Invisible Man. Also, I love the FANTASTIC BEASTS trilogy and wished that the five-movie plan continued even without Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald.
You guys are just clearly basing it off when it was first released. As of now: Jaws the revenge made $51 million on a $23 million budget. Superman 4 made $30 million on a $17 million budget. The next karate kid made $15 million on a $12 million budget Speed two made $164 million on a $160 million budget Dial of Destiny made $383 million on a $294 million budget. Birds of prey made $200 million on a $84 million budget Black Adam made $393 million on a $195 million budget Secrets of Dumbledore made $400 million on a $200 million budget Vegas vacation made $36 million on a $25 million budget Dark Phoenix made $250 million on a $200 million budget Wrath of Khan $79 million on a $11 million budget Fantastic four 2015 made $167 million on a $120 million budget. Terminator dark fate made $261 million on a $185 million budget The mummy made $400 million on a $125 million budget Batman and Robin made $238 million on a $125 million budget
To be fair, Fox was losing the X-men to Disney. It was horrendous for sure, but it'll be rebooted ( I hate that term), and the franchise will rise from the ashes once again.
@Comicbookfanboy31 no it was terrible. They just did it to try and justify send their usual hollywood messaging. People weren't happy with it so the movie flopped It's amazing how many legacy characters and actors you can get to come back just to make a shit movie to kill the franchise
The movie didn’t flop though. Thanks to the overseas markets, the movie made back more than its budget. Sarah was always more important to me than John. She was always my favorite and I was so happy that Linda Hamilton came back.
TBF, Space Jam: A New Legacy became the most controversial movie of the 21st century by cancellations even re-animating Lola Bunny in a different thing also LeBron James got his Razzie Award and people still disliking him now. Warner Bros, made WORST decisions too many and hopefully, it needs to be stopped. Also it failed on the box office during the CONVID-19 incident, too.
Holy crap I forgot about Superman being able to rebuild things with his eyelazers. Screw Rumsfield and Halliburton. When it comes to rebuilding cities after war I go with the Superman 4 approach
I don't know if it's fair to blame Black Adam for the fall of the DCEU. 1. Most of their movies in the whole thing were at best average, with a few stand outs. And 2. James Gunn was always going to axe it, that's why he was brought on.
The fact that a franchise like fast and the furious has gotten to 10 installments when I wouldn’t even call one of those a good movie makes perfect sense given how terrible a place the world is.
You said it all, about halfway though - just because a movie made money doesn't mean it needs a sequel. Until the 80s, original movies were made, without endless sequels.
What do you think would have made the the Flash movie more like and possibly the most popular movie in the DCEU? Is James Gunn going to reboot that movie in his new DC projects in the DCU with Lucas Till or Will Poulter playing the Flash?
@@jakushkadarkstalker6278Warner Bros' worst mistake was rushing BvS before Man of Steel got a proper sequel. That's what screwed them over more than anything else.
@@eec589 It really would have made no difference. BvS was absolutely terrible. The directing, the writing, the fact like it felt like it tried to be a dozen different movies all at once.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one! For years, I have seen nothing but absolute hate for this movie online. It is goofy and cheesy, but it isn't meant to be taken seriously. George Clooney really isn't bad, like people always say. Chris O'Donnell is great as Robin. And Alicia Silverstone is wonderful as always. Uma Thurman and Arnold are delightful as the 2 villains. I love this movie as much as I love Batman Forever, possibly more!!
It's campy as f***, which has been missing from the Batman franchise for a while. It was perfect, I don't understand the hate that movie gets!! Glad I'm not alone!
Jurassic World: Dominion was also a franchise killer. That should have been in there instead of Nemesis, because everyone involved AGREED it would be the last Star Trek movie with long-time members as leads.\
5:53, YOU BETTER STOP RIGHT THERE! Looney Tunes: Back in Action wasn't even that awful to begin with when you think about it. Space Jam and Space Jam 2: A New Legacy weren't awful Movies either. So I have to disagree with you on that.
I Highly Disagree With Some Of These Movies, They Didn't Destroy Any Franchise Especially Sin City 2, Both Movies Are Exceptional! It's A Shame We Haven't Seen The 3rd One.

That’s a fact, the movie was ruined because they were going to reboot and people lost interest since none of the plot would matter. But it was a solid movie, even better than black Adam
I think Ezra miller being in the movie played a huge part of the reason why it flopped
Well that’s because they leaned into that after the actor turned out to be a terrible human being. So makes sense. They got you
Between them keeping a problematic actor on as their main character and the superhero market already being oversaturated and DC movies already being kind of on thin ice, they really took a good movie and ruined it before it could even be in theaters
-Robocop 3
-Blade: Trinity
-Eragon
-Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
-Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
-Little Fockers
-John Carter
RoboCop 3, Ghost Rider and Blade weren't really box office bombs
2 reboots that killed their respective franchises were Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street.
Oddly enough as I much as I enjoyed the OG Friday and Nightmare, I’ve never seen the Friday reboot and I’ve seen the Nightmare one and yeah I agree it sucks balls.
If you think about it Fantastic Four has been killed 3 times as a franchise, in the 90s, in the 2000's and in the 2010's.
and the musical production bombed in Arrested Development
The first Fantastic Four movie wasn't even filmed to be released. It was to preserve the franchise rights (which were about to expire) for the studio.
Still upset & confused
WB thought it'd be a good idea to release flash (controversies) instead of Batgirl
But wb losing $$ feels like good karma....
I actually enjoyed looney tunes back in action and Black Adam for what it was.
naa, Black Adam till he surrenders and is submerged into water prison was a decent movie, but after that it just was total PoS.
and all the hype around it was only cause of return of Henry Cavil's Superman.
But Flash (apart from it's VFX) was actually a very good movie, but the announcement of DCEU ending lead to people not wanting to watch the film.
but it was actually a very good film.
You can enjoy them, but that doesn't change the fact that it underperformed.
Back In Action was pretty mediocre while Black Adam was straight trash.
Black Adam is one of the most movies of all time.
It's weird, I remember enjoying that Looney Tunes movie when I was a kid.
Divergent tv series did not happen, because the main actress Shailene Woodley effectively stated her agreement was as a movie star for the films. Not a low level tv actress status.
We just learned thanks to Hot Ones recent interview with Tony Hawk, that Skate Jam was in the works until Back In Action flopped.
Wasn't the franchise already destroyed before Flashpoint?

DCEU was pretty much destroyed since Batman vs Superman
Superman 4 and Batman and Robin aren’t really the franchises final nails in their coffin anymore.
Considering how many more successful films were released afterwards, despite a long hiatus
Vegas Vacation is so underrated. It was my introduction to the franchise. Christmas Vacation is the best, but Vegas deserves more credit.
Vegas vacation is awesome man. I don’t know why it would be on here
I walked out on Dark Fate. As far as I’m concerned, there’s only two Terminator movies: 1 and 2
True
First 10 minutes of 3 count just because of Kristianna Loken...just saying.
“Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins” tanked so hard, the franchise died before it began.
Ikr, and I love Remo Williams
So did Disney’s John Carter movie.
as for matrix 4 ... the wachowski's were forced into making the 4th due to a technicality in the copyright red tape ... they said in multiple interviews that they were done after 3 -- the story they wanted to tell was done
The new terminator did have a really cool bad guy, and he spoke.
I'd say Superman 3 was where that series took a landslide. 4 just showed there was no hope.
RIP Richard Pryor
They should have used brainiac change everything for the plot and start over. Same thing with Superman 4 and use bizarro instead of nuclear man start over with the plot.
Batman and Robin got names right and evaded Razzie , Catwoman didn't
Honarble mention: Percy Jackson movies
My friends and their boat were background extras in Speed 2. They were paid to hang out on their own boat in the Caribbean for something like six weeks, and they're a tiny little dot in one shot.
Superman IV was a bad movie, but it's kind of funny that the actor who played Lex Luthor's nephew eventually went on to do an amazing portrayal of Lex himself.
I went to see FLASH because of Andy Muschietti
I love when horror directors make superhero movies
And despite everything that caused the movie to bomb, I had a really good time watching it
I'm also very exciting to see Muschietti's take on BRAVE AND THE BOLD
The new DCU universe with Pedo Gunn will be a disaster at the box office. Just wait for the worst to come.
It wasn’t the best movie ever but seems like it compared the marvels or whatever it’s called. Couldn’t pay me to watch that crap 💩🚽
The only reason I watched Flash on HBO Max was 15 mins of the OG Micheal Keaton
I watched that garbage for Michael Keaton.
Since 2000, 90% of Hollywood movies are either bad sequels or bad reboots. That's why I don't go to theater much.
John or Kyle.
that would be boring
also the stories are about paradoxes
I unapologetically loved Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
I did too, it was the perfect middle movie in the franchise. Better than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Temple of Doom but not as good as Raiders and Last Crusade.
I really liked it as well
Me too I thought the movie was brilliant and it was nice seeing Harrison Ford again. The critics are dumb
@@samuelzev4076 critics actually liked it. The audience not so much..
@@Denis-89 says the 88% audience score
"The Police Academy movies were never considered high art or high comedy..."
Of course not, because they were always gonna be live-action Looney Tunes for adults.
You can't keep using COVID as an excuse. Some of those movies just weren't good.
Bruh. It was a global plague. It ain’t an excuse, it’s just what happened.
No idea why they keep remaking the Fantastic Four (and making it progressively worse each time.)
Killing John Connor and shoving a gender swapped new hope sunk Dark Fate
yep
I always hated flash and flash fanboys.
Always a pleasure when flash is taken down or it's movie.
John Connor is supposed to be the leader of the human Resistance in the future war, is that a problem?
@@tedgruver7618 I know that's what I said.
Recasting Henry Cavill as Superman was a monumental mistake. Then the alleged replacement is just 🙄😒🧐🤨. Casting is NOT the problem DC!
As of now:
Jaws the revenge made $51 million on a $23 million budget.
Superman 4 made $30 million on a $17 million budget.
The next karate kid made $15 million on a $12 million budget
Speed two made $164 million on a $160 million budget
Dial of Destiny made $383 million on a $294 million budget.
Birds of prey made $200 million on a $84 million budget
Black Adam made $393 million on a $195 million budget
Secrets of Dumbledore made $400 million on a $200 million budget
Vegas vacation made $36 million on a $25 million budget
Dark Phoenix made $250 million on a $200 million budget
Wrath of Khan $79 million on a $11 million budget
Fantastic four 2015 made $167 million on a $120 million budget.
Terminator dark fate made $261 million on a $185 million budget
The mummy made $400 million on a $125 million budget
Batman and Robin made $238 million on a $125 million budget
You don't seem to realize that post-production and promotional costs are not included in those budget numbers.
To be fair, Fox was losing the X-men to Disney. It was horrendous for sure, but it'll be rebooted ( I hate that term), and the franchise will rise from the ashes once again.
Seeing wht Disney is doing with marvel movies recently I doubt the new xmen will be any good
Still irritated that they spent all those films building up Essex so we could finally get Mr. Sinister just to do Phoenix AGAIN and nuke everything.
I didn't even know their was a forth matrix lol
The Last Airbender movie should have also been on here. Taking a great show and turning it into... that, is criminal
I'd add Dragonball Evolution.
No no, dark fate was terrible. They killed off the most important character in the entire series for no good reason
@Comicbookfanboy31 no it was terrible. They just did it to try and justify send their usual hollywood messaging. People weren't happy with it so the movie flopped
It's amazing how many legacy characters and actors you can get to come back just to make a shit movie to kill the franchise
The movie didn’t flop though. Thanks to the overseas markets, the movie made back more than its budget. Sarah was always more important to me than John. She was always my favorite and I was so happy that Linda Hamilton came back.
@@jamiethal1319 the movie still lost money. The box office doesn't cover the advertising or theater cost.
@jamiethal1319 it's why typically u hear a movie needs to make double it's budget in order to be successful
And now we wait for Aquaman 2 to join in now that they won't replace Amber Heard
And Willem Defoe won’t be returning. (Scoff) Forget about it then! I’m definitely not seeing it!

I'm surprised Halloween Ends didn't make this list. I liked the movie, but I know a lot of Halloween fans didn't.
It didn't bomb though
None. I think Hollywood needs to work on creating better stories. Not franchises. If it happens, it's because of having a good story.
If it was animated. Unless it is Batman and on rare occasion Superman, DC live action movies are awful. Their animated movies however are top notch.

I am so upset about the divergent film series. They messed the whole thing up and it was worse they never finished it.
The failure of Back in Action killed the chances of a Tony Hawk version of Space Jam.
