An ethylene glycol based coolant (like automotive antifreeze but less additives) is also an option and is what you'd typically see in an AIO or a commerically available coolant solution. Somewhere between 25-75% concentration entirely inhibits the growth of microorganisms with no other additives

      @3ggsy Месяц назад +6

there's water cooling then there's specially made coolant.
it HIGHLY depends on your computers systems/set up
water is a wonderful coolant, but you have to be diligent/careful about water changes and the impurities in the water as those impurities cause electrical shortages. you also gotta be careful about its corrosiveness, depending on the water you use, it can damage your cooling setup/leak.
specially made coolants COULD be found online, but if your pc isnt setup specifically for it, you cant use it.
its a lot more complicated than that, but id rather not yap more than i have to

When it comes to water cooling, that's 100% the best advice by far. Water cooling is the PC equivalent of drag racing: it'll be expensive, it's guaranteed to destroy your machine, and you will never see any benefits outside of better benchmark scores. The one and only reason you do it is because you like seeing the number go up and you're willing to buy a lot of upgrades and kill several machines to that end.

Custom loops are for high end hardware, or if you enjoy the process of making the loop. A CHEAP loop is $250 minimum, and on low to mid hardware, there is no performance benefit (since you are more power limited than temp limited).
If you want to watercool, not just an AIO, its not terribly difficult, but there are things you need to research for compatibility and reduce corrosion/growth in the loop.
I recommend always using a distilled water coolant, with either biocide, or anti-freeze mix depending on your hardware. Anti-freeze mix would be for mixed metal loops, and will slow corrosion (in general you should try to avoid mixed metals in the loop as much as possible).
Before building the loop, you want to wash everything out, especially radiators, since flux residue will be inside of them. First wash with tap/vinegar mix, then distilled once it is clean coming out of the rad.
Dont use colored/opaque coolant mixes. No matter how good they claim to be, they ALWAYS have issues. With a good distilled coolant mix, your loop can run as long as an AIO can without needing maintenance, although most should get torn down and cleaned each time that a part is changed.
But, recommendations like this (just dont do it) is why watercooling is becoming more boutique and expensive, since mainstream users are being scared away from it when its really not as difficult as its made out to be. In the early days, it was much harder to source parts, and you almost needed to shoehorn things together to get a loop going. Now its almost plug and play for more simple loops.

I love my AIO. Its been working great for about 5 years now. I live in the American southwest and in my state we get in the 90s to 100s i of degrees fahrenheit. In my state houses are mainly cooled using an evaporate cooler. So an AIO is much more efficient than using an air cooler from what i have experienced.

the point of custom loop is not to just cool the LEAST power consuming part in the build ... if one goes full custom then the GPU is in the loop and THAT has real performance benefits from watercooling unlike CPUs that can be aircooled just fine ...
and yes having AiO for the sub 100w CPU but furnace of a aircooler on the 400W GPU is also nonsensical ... when putting watercooling into a system do GPU first THEN CPU ...

putting AiO on the CPU is nonsense when the aircooler in the same price category is already quieter and has the same cooling performance ... while your GPU fans are screaming at full speed barely holding it below 80c ...
if you are going to watercool, then watercool the GPU first THEN if you have spare budget add in the CPU into the loop - watercooling CPU without GPU is pointless waste of money and time

This is exactly how I went with my i7. With the default air cooler I couldn't even finish running a stress test, when the CPU ramped up to 100% the test would shut down in seconds because the temp would skyrocket past it's threshold. Threw in a Corsair AIO and it'll barely squeak past 70 degrees now even during stress testing. It's easy to install, zero hassle, and does exactly what it's supposed to do.

My man completely forgot about the not so long ago AMD days. I was rocking an fx8370 and no air cooler could touch that thing. I upgraded in 2019 to a 3700x and was stoked that I could use the dingus air cooler on it. It may have helped it was half the tdp of the fx series but damn was it glorious.

the i7 is perfectly air coolable with a well ventilated setup and a decent cooler. maybe overclocking would put it over but that's not necessary even for high end gaming.

For inexperienced people aio are perfectly fine if you really want the water cooling for your cpu. But liquid cooling is great but can take time and is pretty expensive for a custom build. You plan it carefully and build it good you have a nice system that will perform well. Just be prepared for the amount of time you'll need to put into it and always make shure of your measurements.

For people who often need to replace hardware and don't want to customize the power cables at all, hard tube water cooling makes no sense to me because it is almost just for aesthetic, and the impact on temperature is not a big of a deal. Once you need to perform hardware maintenance (clean the dust or swap a GPU etc.), the process of draining and re-filling it's just painful.

Ultra high end air cooling is actually better (but much less space efficient) than water cooling. liquid/water cooling is just more visually appealing unless you like the look of massive heat sinks.

For Ryzen 5000+ users with old stock coolers like a Wraith Spire or Prism, if your CPU gets too hot you can look into the PBO2 Curve Optimizer. Most motherboards should have an option in BIOS, but if yours doesn't there is also a third-party utility that allows you to tune it. Set a negative offset starting at -5, run a few Cinebench tests for stability, then change by -5 and repeat until you reach instability, then go back to the last good setting and start incrementing by -1, at a max of -30. As a result, my 5700X3D runs cooler than my 3600 did on a Wraith Prism, and honestly with those adjustments I think a Wraith Stealth could handle it, albeit with an aggressive fan curve.

For the people who got triggered - u should watch the video, its the very basic level question ( he mentioned it ) and if the user doesn't know the basics then the chances are he will ruin his setup ( also the liquid setups and loops are not cheap so advice on such things without mentioning the parts and everything is not a good idea - what if they make a rookie mistake and liquid leaks and mess up the setup - who do you think they are going to point fingers at) and then the blame game type of shit in short if u r at basic step just don't go pro with a jump. andddd this is not something which can be explained in 30 sec tik tok or reel or something lyk that.

The problem with AIOs is that after 2 to 4 years, most of the water will have evaporated, and you'll need to replace it.
You get liquid coolers to take the excess weight off the mobo and get better cooling.
The best option would be to make a custom water loop or a custom AIO; either of them with filling and draining ports. I don't understand why these ports aren't standard on all AIOs over $100 but whatever.

I was going to liquid cool my very first ever PC build thinking I was hot shit then realized after a ton of research that I'm nowhere near knowledgeable to do it, so I pulled out and went with AIO and fans.
Now though after a shit ton of research, I'm pretty certain I could make a solid liquid cooling loop, with soft tubing, since again I'm inexperienced with hardline tubing.
Eventually maybe in 3-5 Years I'm going to build a top of the line build with a full custom water loop with both a cpu and gpu waterblock, with hardline tubing, hopefully by then we get a serious increase to gpu and cpu performance, and also a bit of hopium for some nice price drops 😭.
