Still $200 overpriced across the board. If it was $800, $600 and $400 for the Super line these cards would fly off the shelves, but at this price and performance increase I bet a lot of people just hold out for the 5000 series.
People willing to pay $600+ for a 12gb vram and 192-bit bus, already did it. And the only thing they are getting from nvidia for their fidelity, is a price cut that hurts they card resale. Honestly, I believe people will buy easily the 4070ti super if is priced at $600, but I believe that at $800, sales are not going to be great. Same thing with the 4080 super, people willing to pay $1,000 for a 15 gb card, already did it or got a 7900xtx instead... Hopefully the sales keep low and the prices will be more reasonable next gen
Thanks, I know what I want next time I upgrade. I'm still using a 2060, but I only got it a few years ago during the messy bitcoin era of price inflations, and I'm not in any hurry to move on yet as modern games aren't doing it for me. The efficiency is the winning trait for me, no need to upgrade my PSU!
Good card, good price. Some people just have to complain. 3090 performance for 60% less money. If you use more than 12 gigs you'll have to bump up settings, when you bump up settings, frames will go under the 60 fps limit, killing your gaming experience, so much for that "extra" vram...
Your price comparison adjusted for inflation is a tad misleading. Consider that 2070 Super released over 4 years ago and that the new card has only 50% more VRAM, and that it is on a narrower bus, with almost negligible increase in memory bandwidth. So posing it like a bargain “like for like” is disingenuous. In context, it doesn’t look anywhere near as good a proposition, especially against the backdrop of specs which we know have a meaningful impact on performance. Back in 2019 8GB of VRAM for a 70 part was okay, but was 100% more than the 970 from 5 years before it. Really, it’s only a bargain if you set it against the ridiculous greedflation which has occurred in the intervening time, first with crypto, then with global supply issues. No two ways about it; we pay more now for less than before and somehow we should be happy for it.
It's mostly misleading because wage increases don't nearly come close to matching inflation and large companies like nvidia price gouging are literally significantly responsible for the recent high inflation rates.
Undervolt your card. Most rtx 3x00 series, you can drop the voltage by significant margin, drastically lowering temps. With maybe less than a 3% drop in performance.
Use frame cap in games. I've set 65 FPS on "eco" setting, 120 FPS global, and on Hyper RX no fps limit. There is no need to push 1000 fps in RTS games, for example 😁 On my nvidia 3070Ti laptop I've set 120 fps global cap and per game adjusted as needed, BF5 and COD without fps cap since it runs out of juice anyways 😅
Benchmarks look good...... except the 12GB VRAM coupled with the 192-bit bus should make people nervous for the future. YEAH, I guess if next year or something, you hit a VRAM wall in a game, you could upgrade again. But that costs money, time and hassle. Still not sure what I think. You'd want to run 1440p with good textures on this. How well will 12GB really hold up... hmmm
That's on a whole different price level though ($770++). Unless AMD will significantly reduce their price, I'd saw wait to see what the 4070 Ti Super offers.
I rather pay the 800 for the 4070ti super with 16gb and 256 bit bus and be good for 3-4 years than pay 600$ on the 4070 super with 12gb and 192 bit bus now and then have to upgrade later with games being more vram taxing.
I have a 4070 Ti and I will admit I would have been upset if the 4070 Super had matched it. With all the problems the 12VHPWR has caused I think Nvidia should be moving away from this connector rather than pushing it on even more GPUs.
Adjusted for inflation it seems like a good deal but wages have not matched inflation therefore making it a bad deal for most people 😂. That said I’m just complaining because I like to. I have a 3070 and don’t really need to upgrade.
Imagine releasing a $599 gpu 4 years after a $699 gpu that has almost the same performance. The only one of these super cards that’s gonna be worth it is the 4080 super and its probably just gonna make used 4080s a great value
I've had my 1080ti since 2017 and I just ordered the 2070S today - the 1080ti was a very special card in longevity and raw power - still kicking ass 7 years later - it's still a pretty decent card to this day
Agreed. Like I said there are two potential issues with a price drop under $550. A) It makes the RTX 4060 Ti look incredibly OVERPRICED and if you reduce the cost for that card NVIDIA would also need to cut the RTX 4060. A cascade effect. B) There's a distinct possibility NVIDIA will use the 4070 as discount bait for if / when AMD adjusts the RX 7800 XT's price.
it would have been nice to see a mobile versions of these new gpus since mobile 4070 is very underwhelming and most gaming laptops are downgrading to 4070 to make up for the insane prices
Time will tell. Because the 12GB 4070 Super is matching a 24GB 3090. In the end, if the underlying architecture can't take advantage of more memory and becomes the bottleneck, it doesn't matter if there's 12GB or 120GB, the results will be minimally impacted.
It's wild to see all these reviewers post positive headlines and titles about a 600$ 70 series card. Especially when it skimps on vram for the price and has a gutted memory bus, so that vram is getting choked anyways. I don't care what RTC cores it has if it still can't beat the price to performance of the fucking 1070 or earlier.
It's really a RUclips problem. They are slacking on using their fancy ai tools to weed those comments out. It's been years of this, just in different flavors
Let's be real... $600 GPU should have 16GB so this card should cost no more than $500 and the 4070ti Super 16GB should cost around $650-$700 and the 4080Super $800-$850.

At least 'till they're no longer supported by Nvidia, in which case I'm looking to get the higher-end Battlemage GPU from Intel, Lord Willing.
Still overpriced and underpowered for what it is. 12GB of VRAM has no staying power when modern AAA games developed on consoles with 16GB of VRAM will be ported to PCs as-is, and game developers won't bother to optimize for anything less than that.
Not really depressing at all. If the 5070 is launched next year people with the 4090 will have had 3 years of leading edge gaming power with many more years of great performance in games.
No, first they need to defeat their wafer limitations. Right now AMD has very little interest in competing in the consumer market since the bulk of their wafer allocation is being used for high margin Epyc parts.

Thank you for testing cs2. Great review overall.
Thank you for including the 3090! Hard to find benchmarks with those
i been using a RTX 3060 for years now. is this 470 super a significant upgrade?
yep
Came up from a 3070 and it's about 50% faster avg
Ty for removing the bots
And how does 4070TiS compare to 4070S power efficiency?
I guess we will see when the RTX 4070 Ti Super launches. But expect that card to consume just less than an RTX 4080 in our charts.
Might actually upgrade my 2070s to 4070s IF I see it @ 600€.
1080p, RTX 4070 Super here. My max wattage I saw was at 223W. More than enough to run on my 620W PSU.
I undervolted mine and get around 130w-150w on average with the same performance.
I'm working with a 2070 Super at the moment and cannot decide whether I want to go with a 4070 Super or just go all out and get the 4080 Super.
Sell the 2070S and ONLY buy an FE or msrp 4080.
I really like your closing statement. Spot on
I'm upgrading to this from an RX-480, seems like I'm going to be happy
Awesome video, i’m still running an 9900K and 1070 and have been hesitant on upgrading, but this video has given me a better understanding on what upgrade path I should go for.
same specs, but im going for the 7800 xt this time, after 8 years my 1070 is going to be retired. lol
@@giodegraciaI do think the 7800xt's lack of ray tracing competitiveness will be it's short coming. It's why I didn't buy one.
@@AndrewAtkinson1 while it is true, it really isn't a trade off for me. that's just me, i really don't care much about ray tracing for now as its still bad in terms of performance. maybe in the future when rt cores are much better. but for now im still going for the 7800 xt.
@@giodegracia Same here. I'm going for Powercolor, because f!ck China.
@@giodegracia Look into the AI capabilities of Nvidia. I ended up with a 5700xt (which I got a good deal on at the start of covid) that can't play Alan Wake 2 because of mesh shaders and AMD not supporting them in that gen. The frame gen tech is going to be a big differentiator and coupled with the RT abilities all added up to the reason why I didn't go 7800xt. Even at $100 less it seems too expensive because it doesn't have these abilities.
You guys are welcome. I just bought a 4070 before the rumours appeared
And decided to keep it?
You're surprised you got ripped off buying Nvidia? LOL
You should have sold it
Should have got a 4090
Lmao, your sacrifice will not be forgotten. I ended up buying the M2 MacBook Pro literally a week before the M3 version was announced
Still $200 overpriced across the board. If it was $800, $600 and $400 for the Super line these cards would fly off the shelves, but at this price and performance increase I bet a lot of people just hold out for the 5000 series.
Bro thinks hes getting a 1440p card for 400$ 🤣
You're not wrong but if Nvidia ever wants to get back to 10 series sales numbers they need to go back to 10 series pricing@@clockworklegionaire2135
That'll never happen. As it stands gaming GPUs are a side quest for NVIDIA which sadly means they'll charge what the market will bear.
So now the 7800XT is now dead in the water unless AMD drops prices. Thanks Nvidia.
It's mostly misleading because wage increases don't nearly come close to matching inflation and large companies like nvidia price gouging are literally significantly responsible for the recent high inflation rates.
how about the temp? vedio not mentioned about it.
Unfortunately, 3-fan 4070 Super prices in ASEAN range from 750-900 USD, while 2-fans are 700-850 USD.
Ouch....:(
This is true...
this vga undervolt + underclock and play at 1080p high and limit fps to 100. Is it possible to get below 100 watt for power consumption?
Still crazy to see that astronomical prize of the 4090😮😮
And they're flying off the shelves. Not to gamers but for AI developers...
@HardwareCanucks nah the gamers are buying them too
I'm thinking of making a departure from my Asus 1080ti of yesteryear, would this be a good value for money upgrade?
I'd say so unless you wanted to hop onto the AMD bandwagon and grab the 7800 XT
@@HardwareCanucks Would a i9 9990k @ 5.0ghz be a bottleneck?
Finally someone including the 3090 in the benchmarks.
All black looks nice!
I'm amazed in how the Tech media appears to be praising a 4060 super renamed as 4070 super that costs almost 600$ usd. The world went mad.
Its a 4070 Super. Not a 4060 Super. It could be named BOBGPU and it would still sell for the same price....names don't matter.
And the launch price in Australia is $300 above msrp 😃👍
I spent a chunk of change on my 3090 and to have a card which costs less than half of what I spent, I'm a bit molested. 😢
Not sure how I feel about picking up my used 3090 recently for £630 now... That lower power usage would be really nice for me since I have a SFF case.
Undervolt your card. Most rtx 3x00 series, you can drop the voltage by significant margin, drastically lowering temps. With maybe less than a 3% drop in performance.
@diomedes7971 mines currently capped to 831mv and it still consumes 370W :/
Use frame cap in games. I've set 65 FPS on "eco" setting, 120 FPS global, and on Hyper RX no fps limit. There is no need to push 1000 fps in RTS games, for example 😁
On my nvidia 3070Ti laptop I've set 120 fps global cap and per game adjusted as needed, BF5 and COD without fps cap since it runs out of juice anyways 😅
How well will 12GB really hold up... hmmm
Its interesting considering the VRAM limitation has been talked about for the better part of a decade now.
DLSS will mitigate the usage of vram but the 4070 Super will have vram issues in the future with ultra settings and RT
0:31 is 16 ROPs not 14 if you missed it in editing
No we caught it. There's a small callout edit in the top left. It was the best we could do in a pinch.
Looks like I’m getting a 7900xt, way better performance
That's on a whole different price level though ($770++). Unless AMD will significantly reduce their price, I'd saw wait to see what the 4070 Ti Super offers.
@@HardwareCanucksshhhh, AMD fanboys aren't reasonable.
@@Phoenix56801 For one AMD gpu buy get a free MAGA red cap for free, now it's more tempting to you ?
I rather pay the 800 for the 4070ti super with 16gb and 256 bit bus and be good for 3-4 years than pay 600$ on the 4070 super with 12gb and 192 bit bus now and then have to upgrade later with games being more vram taxing.
I have a 4070 Ti and I will admit I would have been upset if the 4070 Super had matched it. With all the problems the 12VHPWR has caused I think Nvidia should be moving away from this connector rather than pushing it on even more GPUs.
what problems was with 12VHPWR?
You haven't seen all the issues with melting connectors on the 4090s?@@КиберБуллинг-о6ф
Adjusted for inflation it seems like a good deal but wages have not matched inflation therefore making it a bad deal for most people 😂.
That said I’m just complaining because I like to. I have a 3070 and don’t really need to upgrade.
these cards retain the their value pretty good so might not be a bad idea to get one even tho you can get more performance for cheaper
Imagine releasing a $599 gpu 4 years after a $699 gpu that has almost the same performance.
The only one of these super cards that’s gonna be worth it is the 4080 super and its probably just gonna make used 4080s a great value
I’m still running a 1080Ti with no issues. But this is tempting!
I've had my 1080ti since 2017 and I just ordered the 2070S today - the 1080ti was a very special card in longevity and raw power - still kicking ass 7 years later - it's still a pretty decent card to this day
Noise test..?
The 4070 is currently at 549, you think that this will drop at 500$, 50$ gap is kind weird.
Super review as always, Mike.
im still playing on 1080p so this card going to be perfect
Majority of gamer buying GPU for 5 years & 12GB VRAM aren't enough.
Still stroking my 3090 that cost £325 after selling my 3070 last year.
Im still rocking a 1060 super and if rocking means rolling down a cliff, then yea rocking
haha still use my lovely ZOTAC 1070 AMP EXTREME EDITION, looks like new till this day
it would have been nice to see a mobile versions of these new gpus since mobile 4070 is very underwhelming and most gaming laptops are downgrading to 4070 to make up for the insane prices
I strongly disagree with 12GB VRAM would be "more than enough" in 2024 and on. The 4070TI Super is the right way.
Time will tell. Because the 12GB 4070 Super is matching a 24GB 3090. In the end, if the underlying architecture can't take advantage of more memory and becomes the bottleneck, it doesn't matter if there's 12GB or 120GB, the results will be minimally impacted.
@@HardwareCanucks Not time but the upcoming games will tell the truth.
It's wild to see all these reviewers post positive headlines and titles about a 600$ 70 series card. Especially when it skimps on vram for the price and has a gutted memory bus, so that vram is getting choked anyways. I don't care what RTC cores it has if it still can't beat the price to performance of the fucking 1070 or earlier.
for only 200 more u get the ti super and then another 200 u get the brand new 4080 super so idk its super tempting
i just like how it looks
why didn't he talk about the 4080 super
I did. However, it hasn't launched yet.
great vid as always - what the heck is happening with all the spam comments in here tho? probably should look into that
We work as fast as we can to delete them but they appear faster than a human can delete....we've also talked to YT about it.
It's really a RUclips problem. They are slacking on using their fancy ai tools to weed those comments out. It's been years of this, just in different flavors
One of the first reviews I seen that challenged Nvidia's claim that the 4070 super is faster than a 3090.
In some games the 4070 super IS faster than the 3090 but definitely not on average
It isn't. But NVIDIA got to that number with some creative DLSS settings I'm sure.
Customers are also looking up.. cheaper alternatives.
12gb vram is enough for me love it
No, it's not "looking up". 😠 The way I see it, the real 70-class is now $800.
I bought a 4070 super, it a huge increase from my 3060
Let's be real... $600 GPU should have 16GB so this card should cost no more than $500 and the 4070ti Super 16GB should cost around $650-$700 and the 4080Super $800-$850.
So what Nvidia going to put the 4070 under 500? get real
what i learned is to never buy first. and wait for the super to come out. i feel sorry for those who bought the rtx 4070 at 600
Conservative and 12GB, kinda disappointing tbh.
In this price range Nvidia successfully pushed me over to AMD, 12gb and RT no thanks, 16gb yes please its been GREate! thanks Nvidia:)
Meanwhile the 4070 is still $1100 Canadian Peso's and may as well be made of un-obtainium for 75% of consumers.
Do you mean 4070 Ti? 4070 is $749 CAD here in Wpg.
My dual 1070s are still going strong. 😁
Interesting 🤔 What games do u play on your linked 1070s? I have 2 as spares

Still overpriced and underpowered for what it is. 12GB of VRAM has no staying power when modern AAA games developed on consoles with 16GB of VRAM will be ported to PCs as-is, and game developers won't bother to optimize for anything less than that.
Whynot use DLSS, these cardshave DLSS baked in
All our RT results are clearly marked that DLSS and / or FSR were used.
Still far too expensive. Especially for 12GB.
12GB Vram more then enough? Lol say that to vrchat and having 70 avatars in a instance all shown and loaded into memory.
The simple fact the $2000 4090 will be beaten by next yersus 5070 for $800 is depressing
Look at 3090 to 4070 even now
Not really depressing at all. If the 5070 is launched next year people with the 4090 will have had 3 years of leading edge gaming power with many more years of great performance in games.
No they aren't
AMDis not competing with NVIDIA first they need to defeat DLSS
No, first they need to defeat their wafer limitations. Right now AMD has very little interest in competing in the consumer market since the bulk of their wafer allocation is being used for high margin Epyc parts.
Now to wait for amd to counter this so i can buy that amd card. Nvidia is just taking advantage of people.
