  • As part of the South Coast Rail Project the former passenger station site in Fall River, MA formerly known as "Bowenville" or "Fall River" is being restored. The station building itself was demolished in 1954 but the station platform stayed in service until 1958 when passenger service was cut. In 2022 construction progress on the South Coast Rail project is approaching the half way point meaning the Fall River station is taking shape for the late 2023 start up of service. To build the station a new elevated platform is being built where one of the old platforms was historically. In addition to the platform, a second track is being built as the "station track" alongside the current single track mainline. To do this four additional bridges over roadways have to be rebuilt to add this second track. Two of the four bridges were built in 2016 and may be seen in a different video. In January of 2022 the Pearce St. second track bridge was installed and the Turner St. bridge site is being prepared. This video shows the abandoned station site before the work started as well as the Pearce St. and Turner St. Bridges. Later we see progress of the station during the summer of 2021 and end off with views of Pearce St. Bridge work in January of 2022. More updates to follow.
For those wondering the track at the beginning of the video is active and used several times a week by the Mass Coastal Railroad. The station track is the one being restored and was removed in the 1980/90’s.

Good to see rail restoration in the US. Hope it's not so expensive as the rebuild of East West Rail in England!

You are so right. Every government project in the UK always seems to cost an absolute fortune! Is it greed, snouts in the trough and or piss poor management !!

Nice to see some station footage, are you planning on documenting the construction of the stations in Freetown and Taunton too?

Unfortunately the station in Taunton isn’t accessible at this time. I do plan on trying to get a quick video in Freetown as well as a more detailed video of the stations in NB.

We should have had a federal moratorium on all Railway abandonments 25 years ago at least. I would be not 1 out of 10,000 Railways return after being torn out. Railroads ripped up tracks to cut taxes and get money out of the tracks.

I just wanna tell you young Sheeple,, that its unfortunate that they took out the granite stairs,, why they did that is beyond me, am sure there is a reason why they did it, when I was a young boy I lived in the North End, in fact my home was corner of Weaver St. and North Main St.,, We had Boston Express Trains way back in the late 50s, and there were two sets of tracks all the way to Taunton I believe, I used to watch beautiful silver trains pass by my house a few times a day..there were two tracks until the late 60s and for some reason they took all the extra lines out .why I'll never know, perhaps if they maintaied them all those years it would have cost a lot...Oh and one more thing,, I miss the old Depot Lounge that was on the side of the Dollar Store...

I wanna tell all the people that own property on North Main St. That am so sorry for what the State has done to your property value,, At one time there was a piece of property owned by St.Vincent Home for Children and it was abandoned for years,, so apparently the MBTA and State of Mass. Has decided to take that property by emminate however its spelled so ,,they took land from the old Shell Oil compound all the way down to the old St. Vincent Home ,,that is a lot of land ,,I'd guess half a mile of land or pretty close,, these poor peoples will have Deisel engines running 24/ 7 days a week with welding ,,smashing ,, popping,, and on and on,, WOW..I didn't know Fall River had or rather has all this Places for Outer Towners to come to visit,, gees I mean,, Fall River don't even have bus services on Sunday, nor does New Bedford,, Our Beloved Little City is gonna be Stolen by Rich Preppy types from old Cultured Boston,, recently our rents have gone from $ 600 __ $800 and now your seeing $1600__ $2500 a month...This is so sad.
