About 30 years I researched Crazy Quilts. When they were first made , they were rather plain. The oldest German quilt I found was made from heavy woolen pieces and the layers were held together with just the Feather Stitch. The next quilts that I found were way more ornately made with scraps from the wonderful old satins and brocades that were used in the wealthy women's dresses. These were called Duvet Covers and embroidered with great combinations of stitches. These weren't meant to be quilts, proper They were created to showcase each seamstress's talents with the needle. "Waste not, want not." The ones that I found weren't finished on the back, either. They were meant for decoration on top of the bed clothes. I'm hooked on Crazy Quilts and the stitches.
So beautiful and can believe l am going to make these. Right now I have been doing 100's of masks, but this is so exciting. Have seen them before, but l love ur chit chat that goes with it. Thank you so much for the inspiration. I am 81 and need the encouragement some days
Just found you! Cos I was searching for crazy quilt help... I work in just as much sadness as you and I love it! I am a newbie to fabric and thread crafts.
I love this pillow. I started making squares just yesterday. I got one put together. It was not hard but you make it look so much easier than it is. But I am going to continue. I want to make a pillow as beautiful as this one that you made. I LOVE this technique and your awesome work! Thank you for sharing.
What a beautiful pillow cover! I love everything about it! I’m making a quilt journal for my stepdaughter this Christmas and I want the cover to be a crazy quilt that I hope looks half as exquisite as yours! You’ve given me so many ideas and the inspiration to go for it! Thanks so much for sharing your talent! ❤
Oh my golly! You have just launched me into a fantastic year of creativity! You are truly talented. I’m going to attempt to make gorgeous crazy quilt coned Christmas trees for my 4 daughters. The trees will be as embellished as I can make them.
so happy to see my little bit in there!! :). And I can see I need to start looking for scraps and such... even a LITTLE of lace or a few extra buttons, will do!
Rebecca, this turned out so nice!! It's beautiful with the embellishments!! I so love it! I am going to try these little techniques with my crumb quilt table runner! Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and beautiful work! Please keep the videos coming!
I do trust you - you are truly a professional and I learned so much. Guess I’d better figure out how to untangle the bobbin on my seldom- used sewing machine so I can make a pillow.
Rebecca you have been so helpful with this series. This has been the best crazy quilt tutorial series. I just got back into embroidery and loving the slow stitch and crazy quilt aspects. I love textiles and beads and this is so beautiful you are so talented.
I finished the crazy quilt square I was telling you about and made a pillow out of it I gave it to my neighbor and she loved it thank you for inspiring me
Ty so much! Very helpful for beginning my first crazy quilt. I've watched all you videos up to now. Very helpful. But now how do I actually "quilt" a crazy quilt with batting and backing? Help!!
I don't quilt mine unless they have no embellishments. I usually tie them at the corners of the blocks sometimes with buttons. Whether or not you use batting is up to you but traditional crazy quilts don't have batting. Use a pretty upholstery fabric for the back!
I will do another video showing some basic stitches. Do you have any embroidery books? Try the library if you don't. They will be helpful to follow along in.
When you press the interfacing, do you need to be careful of the heat depending on the embellishments on the other side? Also, I like the way you did your ‘pocket’, I’ve never seen it done like that! Your excess supply is amazing, I wonder how a beginner begins with mush much less! 🤪 🐝 u t ful pillow!!!
No you don't have to worry about melting things because you are pressing for such a short time. Trust me when I say your stash will grow so fast it will blow your mind lol
In the description box there is a link to it. On phone click the little down arrow thingy to open description box. On a PC click Read More. We'd love to have you!
Wheres my piece of toffee.........heheeheh your selection of needles is as big as mine and I have an old glass bottle where I store my broken/damaged/rusted needles and when full I will have my version a Hari-Kuyo ceremony ( the Japanese broken needle ceremony)
you would not quilt it you would tie it at the corners of the blocks. You have to decide if you want batting or not. I like using just flannel. I use a heavier upholstry weight for my backing. I hope this helps. Don't be afraid to ask more questions.
Thank you very much for responding to my question, I am glued to watching your videos, oh how I wished you were closer to where I live, so I could see your quilts in person, they are beautiful! Where can I find your “secret group“
If they are embellished you tie them. In the past I have machine quilted several but they weren't embellished, just crazy patch pieced. I just finished a wall hanging in one of my latest videos and I have another one ready to go soon.
The part of the square that had the gold skulls on it I didn't think anybody would like it but she liked that the best I put a charm thing from nightmare before Christmas on the skull section.
Gosh, I’m just trying to help. I think, if that camera was up just a little more or if you could hold up your hands. I think your work is outstanding, absolutely outstanding. I guess I’ve told people what to do, or suggested they do too long. I will cut you some slack. I’m 83 my dear, you’re the kid and one I admire very very much. Thank you for putting up with me.
I know you are just trying to help. I am painfully aware of my failings and once a video is published there's not much I can do to change it. All I can do is try to do better on the next one.
So nice of you to throw your super supportive comment in here Steve. I am always appologizing for my nails as I go from gardening to painting to quilting and I tend to forget. But if it bothers you feel free to send me money for a manicure now and then.
Hi Rebecca, this pillow is absolutely stunning 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 on to part 12 xxxx

I am intrigued by this Hari-Kuyo thing. I may even dig in the trash to get the broken needles lurking in there.
What do you charge for one of these beautiful pillows?
Kay Strait they start at $75
THIS ABSOLUTLY BEAUTIFUL . MAY I ASK HOW MUCH YOU SELL THEM FOR .
I try to get at least $100 for the pillows
Hello!
If I were making these blocks into a quilt, how would I quilt and back it?
you would not quilt it you would tie it at the corners of the blocks. You have to decide if you want batting or not. I like using just flannel. I use a heavier upholstry weight for my backing. I hope this helps. Don't be afraid to ask more questions.
What did you use inside the pin books? Is that quilt batting?
No it is felt. I like wool felt best but will use whatever kind I have on hand.

If they are embellished you tie them. In the past I have machine quilted several but they weren't embellished, just crazy patch pieced. I just finished a wall hanging in one of my latest videos and I have another one ready to go soon.
Beautiful! (Is this the end of this series?)
no. They may be named differently but I have a crazy quilt play list
The part of the square that had the gold skulls on it I didn't think anybody would like it but she liked that the best I put a charm thing from nightmare before Christmas on the skull section.
