Do you need the Philips Hub or you can just connect the Philips bulb directly to the Aqara Hub M3?

You will still need the Philips Hue Bridge, as the Hue Bridge gets you the Matter support. While the M3 also has Zigbee, this unfortunately only open for Aqara devices. Therefore you need to connect over Matter, so that’s why you need the Hue bridge.

I have a p2 and a m3 as well where is the door tampering feature that’s supposed to be on the p2 or will that be added later in a firmware update

Yes, this will be added in a future OTA update, next to sensitivity settings and the possibility to program the button of the P2.

do you still need the hue bridge?

Yes you do, the bridge has support for matter to connect it to the M3. You can’t directly connect Hue bulbs to the M3 as they have no Matter support on device and the Zigbee protocol of the M3 does only work with Aqara products.

    1. You have to go in Hue > Settings > Smart Home > Other Apps > Get Matter Code
    2. Retur to Aqara App > scan new device > add manually> paste matter code

Where? there is no such entry as 'scan new device'. There is 'Add accessory' to select an Aqara device, the little icon to the right of the search box will let you enter the Aqara code but not a matter code

If you press enter manually, below the space to enter the Aqara code there should be a blue text ‘Matter Pairing code’. If that’s not the case, maybe updating or reinstalling the app might help.

If your home system is Homekit, why do you need to use Hue in aqara when you could add it directly to homekit? I think it would be better if you could connect hue devices as long as other brand with matter devices without the bridge or hub of every brand. Then it will be more logical to me.

That depends on your preferences and use case. I agree that less is more in terms of hubs. With the M3, you can now choose Aqara Home as your main Smart Home platform. Or maybe there are specific functionalities in the Aqara app (e.g. automations based on facial recognition or other type of automations) that can’t be achieved in HomeKit. So in that case you can choose to either add your lights to both Apple HomeKit and Aqara Home or choose one platform for all your devices. But this will be different for everyone based on preference and use case.
