I would be interested in an “extended cut” version of this video. The RS27 sounds incredible…worth seeing in person. It’s an auditory and tactile experience. The sound waves from that machine truly resonate through your chest.
Unfortunately, all but one or two of Minnesota Commercial's Alcos are still in service, and a good number of their former fleet have been scrapped. P.S. You're right to feel the GBW influence, because #316 is a former GBW unit itself (and which many did migrate to Minnesota Commercial following WC's purchase of the GBW).
As others have said, awesome video. One of my new favorites! Love your videos on the Minnesota Commercial and great narration, especially explaining the operations. Would love more!
Glad you enjoyed it, and the narration! It will be something I'll have in all future videos moving ahead; it adds sooo much more context, and interest to the video. I appreciate the feedback on this video too!!
Awesome job on this video, I definitely want to check out MNNR for myself one of these days after watching this. Great job on the narration too, that was super nice. It's actually kind of hard to find quality narrated railfanning videos on RUclips, this was very well made and explained
Thank you for the kind comments, and glad to hear you enjoyed the narration as well. The MNNR is a neat operation, and has a lot of cool things to see!
Excellent video with all those cool Alco/mlw power! ;) I also enjoyed watching thses industrial operations. That inspire my thoughts for my futur Ho scale layout. Thanks Douglas ;)
Thank you very much, and glad you enjoyed it! The Twin Cities still has a good amount of industrial operations, and they would be ideal for an HO layout.
Excellent video! Great filming, and as you say nice to hear those old Alco power plants. The difference in sound between the V-16 of the RS27 and the V-12 of the RS18 is pronounced, the RS27 sounds a lot gruntier.
@@SD457500 you’re welcome it would be cool, but I think one of those RS27s should go to the Illinois railroad museum or some railroad museum that has Alco locomotives
@@SD457500 due to the fact that the one of the rarest diesel locomotives in the world, I think it’s suitable the Minnesota commercial donates these locomotives to a Railroad Museum when they decide not to use them anymore, when it comes to the retirement

Noted, and perhaps coming soon! Are you interested in a video of it idling, going through the paces, and things like that?
@@SD457500 definitely! And also extended aerial/drone cuts.!
@@SD457500 More switching would be great!
Minnesota Commercial - one of my fauvorite railroads 👍
Great video. I love the Alco sound. Thanks for making this available.
Best regards.
Glad you enjoyed it!! These units were cool to see running around town. Sadly, they are now all retired, and waiting their fate. :/
0:28. I just got Green Bay Western vibes.
Incredible for MC keeping the old alcos and GE's around!

@ so they use GE’s now?
Number one best thing about an Alco: it looks and sounds like a GE, but one hell of a lot more durable and reliable.
They look pretty cool too! Thanks for watching!

great video
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching!
Excellent footage of the RS27 and RS18! We enjoyed watching
Great to hear that you enjoyed the video! These are some neat locomotives, and always a treat to see. Thanks for watching!

I read where the RS27 was a notorious over-heat loco. Until GBW installed the fan blades..12, IIRC, off scrapped RSD 12 and 15, which cured it.
Lovely video!
Thank you for the kind comment, and watching! Glad to hear that you enjoyed the video.
great video douglas and great narration
Thank you kindly! The narration is something I going to dabble with a bit in future videos; I think it adds a lot more to the video.
Is 316 and 318 former Green Bay and Western units?
That they are, but originally built for the CNW back in 1962. Thank you for the comment, and watching!

Good point on how the two have distinct sounds with their powerplants. I personally prefer the sound of the RS27, and the smoke it makes too. :D
@@SD457500 I agree, the uneven throbbing noise on that V-16 is a much nicer soundtrack than the V-12.
I’m guessing 318’s being used for spares.
I've heard something along those lines, and that the 318 needs some radiator work. It hasn't ran in a number of years. Thanks for watching!
How many RS27 locomotives are left in existence?
Just two, but the one in this video is the only one which still operates. MNNR 318 is also an RS27, but stored. Thank you for watching!
